El pintor puertorriqueño Rafael Trelles presentará su próxima exhibición individual de pinturas titulada Axis Mundi, en October Gallery de Londres. La apertura de la muestra se celebrará el 23 de junio del presente año y contará con la presencia del artista.
En esta, su primera exposición individual en Inglaterra, compuesta por 14 pinturas al óleo, de formato mediano y grande, Trelles explora la noción del Axis Mundi, un árbol mítico que representa la conexión entre el cielo, la tierra y el inframundo.
La mayoría de los cuadros que componen esta serie fueron creados durante el difícil periodo de la pandemia. A pesar del clima de incertidumbre, el proceso creativo fluyó con facilidad, organizándose espontáneamente en una secuencia de visiones de un mundo forestal onírico. En los bosques concebidos por Trelles los seres humanos aparecen integrados a los diferentes reinos de la naturaleza. Figuras espirituales emergen de las sombras, como testigos silenciosos, portadores de una inteligencia crítica ante los crecientes desafíos del cambio climático y la extinción de especies que nos afectan a todos.
Sobre las ideas que sustentan su obra, Rafael Trelles ha dicho lo siguiente: "Me interesa crear metáforas que expresan la unidad del mundo, la relación entre la naturaleza y la cultura y la interdependencia de los seres humanos con su entorno natural".
La muestra permanecerá abierta hasta el 24 de julio y cuenta con un catálogo que contiene una extensa entrevista al pintor realizada por el escritor y crítico de arte británico Gerald Houghton.Además, el sábado 26 de junio el artista ofrecerá una visita guiada al público visitante.
October Gallery es una galería de arte de gran tradición en el Reino Unido. Fundada hace 40 años en el centro de Londres, se especializa en presentar al público londinense la obra plástica de artistas contemporáneos de diferentes partes del mundo.

Puerto Rican painter Rafael Trelles will present his next solo exhibition of paintings, Axis Mundi, at the October Gallery in London. The opening of the exhibition will be held on June 23 of this year and will be attended by the artist.
In this, his first solo exhibition in England, consisting of 14 oil paintings, medium and large format, Trelles explores the notion of the Axis Mundi, a mythical tree that represents the connection between heaven, earth and the underworld.
Most of the paintings that make up this series were created during the difficult period of the pandemic. Despite the climate of uncertainty, the creative process flowed with ease, spontaneously organizing itself into a sequence of visions of a dreamlike forest world. In the forests conceived by Trelles, human beings appear integrated into the different kingdoms of nature. Spiritual figures emerge from the shadows, as silent witnesses, bearers of a critical intelligence in the face of the growing challenges of climate change and the extinction of species that affect us all.
On the ideas that support his work, Rafael Trelles has said the following: "I am interested in creating metaphors that express the unity of the world, the relationship between nature and culture and the interdependence of human beings with their natural environment".
The show will remain open until July 24 and has a catalog that contains an extensive interview with the painter by British writer and art critic Gerald Houghton. In addition, on Saturday June 26, the artist will offer a guided tour to the visiting public.
