El acto de premiación del XXV Concurso de Arte Eduardo León Jimenes tuvo lugar en el Centro León, en un encuentro que celebró 50 años de este certamen con la entrega de tres premios igualitarios con un valor total de RD$1,500,00.00, a los artistas: Marie Jiménez por la obra Sin título, Joiri Alphonsina Minaya por la obra Siboney y Luis Fermín Ceballos Maldonado por la obra Acción para Buonarroti.
Adicionalmente se entregó una mención de honor a David Pérez (Karmadavis) por su obra Comedor familiar y dos premios especiales: el premio Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros, reconocimiento que consiste en un viaje de inmersión cultural a Caracas, Venezuela, otorgado Andrés Farías y el premio Ciudad de Cádiz, concedido por el Ayuntamiento de esa ciudad española para reconocer una mujer artista concursante, se otorgó a Patricia Encarnación Contreras.
“Este concurso surge de la visión y compromiso solidario de los hermanos y hermanas León Asensio, quienes tuvieron el interés de propiciar, a través de sus iniciativas empresariales, un marco de estímulo y reconocimiento a la creatividad de los artistas dominicanos. En nombre de la tercera y venideras generaciones de la familia León, quiero expresar nuestro compromiso inextinguible por las artes en este país”, agregó María Amalia León de Jorge, directora de la Fundación Eduardo León Jimenes y del Centro León.
De su parte, Luis Felipe Rodríguez, gerente de programas culturales del Centro León compartió algunos datos sobre la participación de los artistas en esta versión. “Resulta interesante saber que la participación femenina ha ido en aumento desde la versión número XXIII del Concurso de Arte celebrada en el año 2000. Este comportamiento responde a una tendencia que refleja el incremento notable de mujeres en el quehacer artístico nacional”.
La décimo quinta versión del concurso de arte tuvo la participación de 14 artistas, quienes resultaron seleccionados entre un total de 141 solicitantes. El jurado estuvo conformado por las curadoras e investigadoras, Andrea Giunta y Sofía Hernández Chong Cuy, y el artista visual Jorge Pineda, quienes decidieron los ganadores conforme a las bases del concurso presentadas en noviembre de 2013.
Luis Fermín Ceballos Maldonado, uno de los concursantes expresó en representación de los artistas seleccionados en esta versión que “una de las grandes virtudes de este concurso ha sido su constante apertura y capacidad de ajustarse a la realidad del arte en cada momento”. Añadió que “uno da lo que recibe y recibe lo que da…Recibir el apoyo y valoración de una institución como el Centro León a través del Concurso de Arte Eduardo León Jimenes nos motiva a seguir asumiendo nuestro compromiso como artistas”.
Los artistas participantes en esta vigésimo quinta versión fueron: Laura Castro, Fermín Ceballos, Queury Dicent, Patricia Encarnación, Andrés Farías, Mónica Ferreras, Marie Jiménez, Joiri Minaya, Randy Morales, Jochi Muñoz, David Pérez, Freddy Pérez, Gustavo Peña y Maurice Sánchez.
Durante el acto se dejó formalmente inaugurada la muestra expositiva del concurso de arte en la Sala de Exposiciones Temporales, una propuesta de experiencias personales que recrean aspectos esenciales de la realidad social dominicana, a través de los diversos estilos y lenguajes contemporáneos empleados por los artistas.
El acto encabezado por María Amalia León de Jorge y el Ministro de Cultura, José Antonio Rodríguez, contó con la participación de miembros de la familia León, representantes de las instituciones patrocinadoras y funcionarios del estado, artistas y público en general.
La ocasión sirvió para conmemorar cincuenta años del inicio del Concurso de Arte Eduardo León Jimenes y dejó abierta la exposición Génesis y trayectoria en la Sala de Artes Visuales María Asensio de León. En relación con esto, León de Jorge manifestó: “Para conmemorar de manera significativa este cincuentenario tan especial para nosotros, la Familia León, a través de la Fundación Eduardo León Jimenes y el Centro León, quiere rendirle un solemne y merecido homenaje a la comunidad de artistas de República Dominicana, que en estos cincuenta años de vida cultural, ha sabido imprimirle a nuestros días y noches, sus creaciones tan vitales para la vida colectiva y personal de los dominicanos. Para celebrar este medio siglo de creación, de aspiraciones sublimes y de experimentación del arte en nuestro país, el Centro León inaugura esta noche una nueva versión de su exposición permanente Génesis y trayectoria”.

The 15th version of the art contest was attended by 14 artists, who were selected from a total of 141 applicants. During the ceremony, the exhibit of the art contest was formally inaugurated in the Temporary Exhibitions Room, a proposal of personal experiences that recreate essential aspects of the Dominican social reality, through the different styles and contemporary languages used by the artists.
The event, led by María Amalia León de Jorge and the Minister of Culture, José Antonio Rodríguez, was attended by members of the León family, representatives of sponsoring institutions and state officials, artists and the general public.
The occasion served to commemorate fifty years of the beginning of the Art Contest Eduardo León Jimenes and left open the exhibition Genesis and trajectory in the Room of Visual Arts María Asensio de León. In connection with this, León de Jorge stated: "To commemorate in a significant way this fiftieth anniversary so special for us, the León Family, through the Eduardo León Jimenes Foundation and the León Center, wants to pay him a solemn and well-deserved tribute to the community Of Dominican artists, who in these fifty years of cultural life has been able to impress on our days and nights their creations so vital to the collective and personal life of the Dominicans. To celebrate this half century of creation, sublime aspirations and experimentation of art in our country, Centro León inaugurates tonight a new version of its permanent exhibition Genesis and trajectory.
