El año 2017 marco el 30 aniversario de Clara Martínez Thedy en el mundo de la fotografía y para celebrar tan importante fecha eligió aunar sus experiencias durante sus visitas al África en el 1987 y las del 2016-2017 para publicar su libro titulado “AFRICA SERENA 30 AÑOS DESPUÉS”.

Martinez Thedy emprendió un viaje al África en el 1987 El motivo de este traslado era cumplir un sueño acariciado desde la infancia: adentrarse en la llanura africana para conocer la tribu de los Masáis, así como la flora y fauna silvestre de este enigmático continente. El resultado de este periplo se convirtió en su primera muestra individual, África: luz y sombra, celebrada en el Centro de Arte La Galería, en Santo Domingo, República Dominicana.

Luego de esta primera exposición, inicia una ascendente carrera profesional como artista del lente, realizando exposiciones individuales en Santo Domingo, Miami, La Romana, Londres, París, Abu Dhabi, Rochefort y Mayenne. Sus exposiciones colectivas la han llevado a exponer su obra en China, Emiratos Árabes Unidos, República Dominicana, Argentina, Cuba, Alemania, Estados Unidos, Francia, España y Bélgica.

Nacida en Bogotá, de padre uruguayo y madre argentina, llega a la Republica Dominicana en el 1966 siendo apenas una niña cuando su padre fue nombrado Embajador de la República Oriental del Uruguay. Tierra que haría suya y en la que prácticamente ha desarrollado toda su carrera artística hasta el 2009, año en que a su vez ella fue nombrada Embajadora de la República Dominicana ante Los Emiratos Árabes Unidos, posición que ocupa a la fecha.

Clara estudio en el Centro Internacional de la Fotografía en Nueva York y continuó su formación en Paris junto a George Febre, impresor de renombre mundial que trabajó para figuras icónicas tales como Henri Cartier Bresson y Josef Koudelka.

Clara ha dedicado mucho tiempo a los temas relacionados con la niñez, el carnaval dominicano, la cultura y tradiciones de varios países, y también ha incurrido en la fotografía figurativa en blanco y negro siendo estas copias realizadas por ella misma en el cuarto oscuro. La religiosidad popular, las procesiones y las devociones marianas también han recibido particular atención por parte de la artista. Su obra ha sido publicada en libros, revistas y forma parte de importantes colecciones de arte privadas.

Desde el principio de su carrera dos elementos han marcado constantemente sus imágenes, la sutilidad y la serenidad.

AFRICA SERENA, 30 AÑOS DESPUÉS es un cautivante libro que presenta una cuidada selección de imágenes de la antigua civilización de los masái, y captura la inocencia y vulnerabilidad de innumerables animales salvajes, en un ambiente en el que solo los más fuertes sobreviven en la lucha constante entre la vida y muerte. También es un llamado a proteger nuestras especies en peligro de extinción, creando conciencia sobre el conflicto interminable entre la vida silvestre y la expansión de las áreas urbanas en la búsqueda del progreso.

El ojo sensible de la fotógrafa propone un equilibrio de poder entre los seres humanos y los animales en este paraíso perdido donde el tiempo parece haberse detenido, el Edén al cual ella accedió en su viaje de ida y vuelta.

La exposición de fotografías que consta de 40 obras y puesta en circulación del libro “Africa Serena” quedará inaugurada en Londres el próximo miércoles 24 de enero en la ciudad de Londres en los prestigiosos salones de la reputada casa de subastas Christies. Esta exposición y puesta en circulacion del libro, tendrá lugar en Santo Domingo en el mes de abril de este mismo año.

His work has been published in books, magazines and is part of important private art collections. Since the beginning of his career two elements have constantly marked his images, subtlety and serenity. AFRICA SERENA, 30 YEARS AFTER is a captivating book that presents a careful selection of images of the ancient civilization of the Masai, and captures the innocence and vulnerability of countless wild animals, in an environment in which only the strongest survive in the struggle constant between life and death. It is also a call to protect our endangered species, raising awareness of the endless conflict between wildlife and the expansion of urban areas in the search for progress. The sensitive eye of the photographer proposes a balance of power between human beings and animals in this lost paradise where time seems to have stopped, the Eden to which she agreed on her round trip.

The exhibition of photographs consisting of 40 works and the circulation of the book "Africa Serena" will be inaugurated in London next Wednesday January 24 in the city of London in the prestigious halls of the renowned Christies auction house. This exhibition and putting into circulation of the book, will take place in Santo Domingo in the month of April of this same year.
