Tengo la firme convicción de que este museo fue creado en un plano mental, cuando aún los que lo están haciendo materialmente visible no tenían la más remota idea de que estaban destinados a llevarlo a cabo, pero una serie de coincidencias los unió; aquí lo tenemos en una primera fase, que será sin duda completada a su debido tiempo. No siento ni orgullo desmedido ni pretensión de grandeza alguna por que lleve mi nombre (la vanidad no ha sido nunca uno de mis defectos), pero sí una gran tranquilidad y paz interior de saber en vida que mi legado artístico no quedará disperso ni encerrado en colecciones privadas, solo accesible a quienes lo posean y sus amistades. Muy por el contrario, una gran parte de mis obras (más de doscientas) estarán disponibles en esta institución para todo el que se interese por ver, estudiar y analizar mis pinturas, que serán expuestas rotativamente. El museo está situado en una zona legendaria y romántica, pero al mismo tiempo de gran actividad y movimiento, con un futuro muy prometedor en nuestra ciudad Primada de América, Santo Domingo en su versión colonial. Quiero destacar la valiosa colaboración de Marianne de Tolentino, experta conocedora de arte y museografía, también la del joven y dinámico arquitecto Alex Martínez Suárez, que llevó a cabo la renovación y puesta al día de estas casas tan cargadas de siglos, y, por supuesto, la generosidad y el afán perfeccionista de mi sobrino Manolo Hazoury Peña, sin el cual este sueño, hoy hecho realidad, se hubiera desvanecido. Fernando Peña Defilló El Museo Fernando Peña Defilló es una institución sin fines de lucro auspiciada por la Fundación Fernando Peña Defilló y creada con el objetivo principal de compartir y dar a conocer la colección privada familiar de un gran maestro de la pintura dominicana, quien a lo largo de más de sesenta y cinco años de arduo trabajo deja un legado hermoso para las generaciones actuales y futuras. El interés del Museo es presentar a un gran artista y a un ser humano excepcional que desde muy joven ha resaltado su gran espíritu de dominicanidad, tratando siempre de redescubrir la realidad de su país en diferentes etapas de su vida desde que emigró a Europa en 1951 hasta su regreso en 1963.
