Las obras de estos artistas se expondrán a partir del 25 de octubre de 2018 en el Centro León.

El jurado del 27 Concurso de Arte Eduardo León Jimenes seleccionó a 19 artistas individuales y 1 colectivo de artistas para participar del proceso de trabajo y exposición de esta edición del certamen. Estos artistas desarrollarán las obras que serán expuestas a partir de octubre de 2018 y serán elegibles para la premiación del Concurso en enero de 2019.

E. Carmen Ramos, José Luis Blondet y Emiliano Valdés hicieron la selección entre los 241 artistas individuales y 10 colectivos de artistas que presentaron sus proyectos de obras y piezas terminadas, mediante un proceso de inscripción completamente digital, que concluyó el pasado 16 de marzo.

El anuncio fue realizado por Emiliano Valdés durante un encuentro con representantes de medios de comunicación.

Luis Felipe Rodríguez, gerente de Programas Culturales del Centro León, comentó que en esta convocatoria sobresale la participación de 241 artistas individuales y 10 colectivos de artistas, lo que representa un importante incremento en relación al Concurso anterior celebrado en 2016.

Los artistas seleccionados son: Baltasar Alí, Cristian Lora, Héctor Eliazar Ortiz Roa, David Pérez (Karmadavis), Ernesto Rivera, José Morbán, Laura Castro, Fermín Ceballos, Madeline Jiménez Santil, Mildor Chevalier, Noelia Cordero Espinal, Patricia Castillo, Patricia Encarnación, Ray Ferreira, Ruth Lisselot Aquino Calcaño, Soraya Abu Naba’a, Wali Vidal, Yelaine Rodríguez, Zerahias Mercedes Polanco y el colectivo formado por Guillermo Zouain y Wendy Muñiz.

El 27 Concurso de Arte Eduardo León Jimenes cuenta con los auspicios de la Fundación Eduardo León Jimenes y Cervecería Nacional Dominicana.

Fechas importantes

Los artistas seleccionados deberán entregar las obras terminadas o los elementos de su instalación, en el Centro León, entre el 17 y el 21 de septiembre de 2018.

Esta fecha de entrega permite a los artistas con proyectos de obra, desarrollar las piezas a exponer. Los artistas seleccionados serán acompañados por curadores designados por el Centro León, lo que constituye un valioso aporte a las prácticas artísticas dominicanas.

La inauguración de la exposición será en el Centro León, el jueves 25 de octubre de 2018 y la entrega de premios, el jueves 17 de enero de 2019.

Sobre los jurados

E. Carmen Ramos (Estados Unidos de América / República Dominicana) es Curadora de arte latino en el Smithsonian American Art Museum and Smithsonian Latino Center desde el 2010. Desde entonces, ha expandido decisivamente la colección de arte del museo con el objetivo de aprehender las extensas corrientes estéticas y vías discursivas del arte del Caribe y Latinoamérica. Obtuvo su licenciatura de la Universidad de Nueva York (1988) y maestría (1995) y doctorado (2011) de la Universidad de Chicago.

Sus intereses de investigación incluyen el arte moderno y contemporáneo Latino, Latinoamericano y Afroamericano. Recientemente, Ramos trabajó la curaduría de la exposición Tamayo: The New York Years. Ha curado exposiciones como El Caribe en el Extranjero: Artistas Contemporáneos y Migración Latina (2003), en la que presentó la obra de los dominicanos Nicolás Dumit Estévez, Scherezade García, Miguel Luciano y Juana Valdés.

José Luis Blondet (Venezuela) es Curador de Proyectos Especiales de Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) desde 2010, donde ha curado exposiciones como Maria Nordman: Film-Room Smoke, 1967- Present (2011), Brújula para exploradores (paisaje americano en el siglo XIX) (2013). En la actualidad es uno de los tres miembros del equipo curatorial de SITElines 2018, la tercera edición de Site Santa Fe, que tendrá lugar este año.

Blondet trabajó para el Boston Center for the Arts y el Dia Art Foundation, en Nueva York. En Caracas, fue profesor de la Escuela de Letras de la Universidad Central de Venezuela y trabajó en el Museo de Bellas Artes hasta el año 2001, cuando partió a Nueva York al programa curatorial de Bard College al ser merecedor de una beca de la Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros.

Emiliano Valdés (Guatemala) es curador, editor y productor cultural con sede en Medellín, Colombia y Ciudad de Guatemala. Actualmente es el curador en jefe del Museo de Arte Moderno de Medellín y Curador Asociado de la 10ª Bienal de Gwangju. Fue codirector de Proyectos Ultravioleta, una plataforma multifacética para la experimentación en arte contemporáneo en Ciudad de Guatemala y Curador / Jefe de Artes Visuales en el Centro Cultural de España en Guatemala, donde durante más de 5 años desarrolló un extenso programa de exposiciones que transformó la escena artística del país.

Ha concebido y curado diversos proyectos expositivos, entre ellas la Serie Revisiones (2011), en el (Ex) Céntrico, y fue curador de la XVII Bienal de Arte Paiz (2010). En su hoja de vida también destaca su participación en dOCUMENTA (13), efectuado en el 2012 en Kassel, Alemania. Fue Curador Asociado de la 10ª Bienal de Gwangju, Korea. En República Dominicana, ha sido conferencista y facilitador en Curando Caribe.

The works of these artists will be exhibited from October 25, 2018 at the Leon Center.

The jury of the 27th Eduardo León Jimenes Art Contest selected 19 individual artists and 1 collective of artists to participate in the work and exhibition process of this edition of the contest. Important dates

The selected artists must deliver the finished works or the elements of their installation, in the León Center, between September 17 and 21, 2018.

This delivery date allows artists with works projects, develop the pieces to be exhibited. The selected artists will be accompanied by curators appointed by the León Center, which constitutes a valuable contribution to Dominican artistic practices.

The opening of the exhibition will be at the Centro León on Thursday, October 25, 2018 and the awards ceremony on Thursday, January 17, 2019.

About the juries

E. Carmen Ramos (United States of America / Dominican Republic) is curator of Latin art at the Smithsonian American Art Museum and Smithsonian Latino Center since 2010. Since then, she has decisively expanded the museum's art collection with the goal of capturing extensive aesthetic currents and discursive ways of the art of the Caribbean and Latin America. He obtained his bachelor's degree from the University of New York (1988) and master's degree (1995) and PhD (2011) from the University of Chicago.

His research interests include modern and contemporary Latin, Latin American and African American art. Recently, Ramos worked as curator of the exhibition Tamayo: The New York Years. He has curated exhibitions such as El Caribe Abroad: Contemporary Artists and Latin Migration (2003), in which he presented the work of Dominicans Nicolás Dumit Estévez, Scherezade García, Miguel Luciano and Juana Valdés.

José Luis Blondet (Venezuela) is Curator of Special Projects of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) since 2010, where he curated exhibitions such as Maria Nordman: Film-Room Smoke, 1967- Present (2011), Compass for explorers (American landscape) in the 19th century) (2013). He is currently one of the three members of the curatorial team of SITElines 2018, the third edition of Site Santa Fe, which will take place this year.

Blondet worked for the Boston Center for the Arts and the Dia Art Foundation in New York.
