Lyle O. Reitzel Gallery presenta el conversatorio “Trans-Identidad y Ruptura” este sábado 23 de junio, con la crítica y analista de arte Marianne de Tolentino junto a la reconocida Historiadora de arte y curadora Janet Batet como invitada especial.
Marianne de Tolentino, actual Directora de la Galería Nacional de Bellas Artes, profundizará sobre su obra reciente, la evolución permanente del artista y el rumbo de una obra que se renueva a través de la ruptura con su propio pasado.
Janet Batet se enfocará en la trayectoria de Cruz Azaceta, marcando hitos esenciales en su devenir artístico y vinculando su trayectoria al concepto de trans-identidad, algo más que presente en todo el espacio Caribe. Basándose en conceptos de Sygmund Bauman: modernidad líquida, miedo líquido, precariat para imbricarlo a la sociedad global contemporánea donde, definitivamente, se inserta la propuesta de Azaceta.
Marianne de Tolentino
Oriunda de una familia de artistas, nacida francesa y dominicana por su matrimonio con el doctor Mario Tolentino Dipp, Marianne Tolentino ha realizado toda su vida profesional en Santo Domingo, dedicándose a la educación, la cultura y el arte. Como funcionaria cultural, fue Embajadora encargada de Asuntos Culturales de la Secretaría de Estado de Relaciones Exteriores, Encargada de Relaciones Internacionales en la Dirección General de Bellas Artes y en el Museo de Arte Moderno. Ha dirigido el Centro Cultural Cariforo por concurso, creado por la Comisión de la Unión Europea, y uno de los cuatro del Caribe.
Ha formado parte de la Delegación dominicana en asambleas y organismos internacionales: UNESCO, ONU, OEA, Unión Europea, Comité Cultural Regional del Caribe, Seminario de Escultura Latinoamericana, Encuentro de Operadores Culturales, Bienal de la Habana, Bienal de Sao Paulo, Carib´Art, Seminario de Estudios del Caribe (Universidad de Cartagena). Ha ofrecido numerosos cursos y conferencias de arte.
Tiene actualmente a su cargo la columna de arte y cultura, “Creación” en el periódico “Hoy”. Aparte de cientos de artÌculos en el “ListÌn Diario”, ha colaborado con varias revistas de arte y periódicos de paÌses de América Latina, siendo hoy corresponsal de la revista colombiana “Art Nexus” y colaboradora de “Arte al Día”.
Ha sido directora/editora de la revista cultural “Cariforum”. Comendadora de la Orden de Duarte, Sánchez y Mella, máxima condecoración dominicana. En 2015, recibió el Premio Nacional Fundación Corripio por los mejores artículos de cultura en Medios de Comunicación, y acaba de recibir un reconocimiento de la Cámara de Diputados como Mujer relevante 2017.
Ha sido premiada por la Asociación Dominicana de Críticos de Arte como la mejor Crítica de Arte en Medios de comunicación: años 2011, 2013, 2016. En la actualidad, es Directora de la Galería Nacional de Bellas Artes, dependencia del Ministerio de Cultura de la R.D y además es curadora del recién abierto Museo Fernando Peña Defilló y miembro de su Fundación patrimonial.
Janet Batet
Historiadora de arte, curadora y ensayista. Graduada de Licenciada en Historia del Arte en la Universidad de La Habana (1987-1092) y estudios de Maestría en Nuevos Medias en la Universidad UQAM, de Montreal (2002-2004). Ex investigadora y curadora del Centro de Desarrollo de Artes Visuales (1992-1998), La Habana, Cuba y Profesor titular del Instituto Superior de Arte, en Ciudad de La Habana y miembro del Comité asesor de CIFO (Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation)
Sus investigaciones se orientan hacia las nuevas tecnologías y el arte contemporáneo con especial atención a las prácticas artísticas latinoamericanas y caribeñas. Es una curadora de Gráfica Latinoamericana de los Siglos XX-XXI. Miembro del equipo gestor que sentó las bases del Salón de Arte Cubano Contemporáneo, con sede en La Habana. Colaboró también como especialista en Arte del Caribe para la I Bienal de Montreal, con el CIAC (Centro Internacional de Arte Contemporáneo, Montreal).
Sus escritos sobre arte contemporáneo son publicados regularmente en prestigiosas publicaciones periódicas como Art Nexus, Arte al día, Art Pulse, Art Experience: NYC, El nuevo Herald, Art District, Arte cubano, Cuban Art News, Temas, The Miami Rail, Knight Arts Miami, entre otros.

Reitzel Gallery presents the conversation "Trans-Identity and Rupture" this Saturday, June 23, with the critic and art analyst Marianne de Tolentino together with the renowned art historian and curator Janet Batet as a special guest. Marianne de Tolentino, current Director of the National Gallery of Fine Arts, will delve into her recent work, the permanent evolution of the artist and the direction of a work that is renewed through the break with his own past. Janet Batet will focus on the career of Cruz Azaceta, marking essential milestones in her artistic development and linking her career to the concept of trans-identity, something more than present throughout the Caribbean space. Based on Sygmund Bauman's concepts: liquid modernity, liquid fear, precariat to imbricate it to the contemporary global society where, definitely, Azaceta's proposal is inserted.
Marianne from Tolentino Originally from a family of artists, born French and Dominican because of her marriage to Dr. Mario Tolentino Dipp, Marianne Tolentino has spent her entire professional life in Santo Domingo, dedicating herself to education, culture and art. As a cultural officer, she was Ambassador in charge of Cultural Affairs of the State Secretariat for Foreign Affairs, in charge of International Relations in the General Directorate of Fine Arts and the Museum of Modern Art. He has directed the Cariforo Cultural Center by contest, created by the Commission of the European Union, and one of the four in the Caribbean. He has been part of the Dominican Delegation in assemblies and international organizations: UNESCO, UN, OAS, European Union, Regional Cultural Committee of the Caribbean, Latin American Sculpture Seminar, Meeting of Cultural Operators, Biennial of Havana, Sao Paulo Biennial, Carib' Art, Caribbean Studies Seminar (University of Cartagena). He has offered numerous courses and art conferences. He is currently in charge of the column of art and culture, "Creation" in the newspaper "Hoy". Apart from hundreds of articles in the "Listín Diario", he has collaborated with several art magazines and newspapers of Latin American countries, being today correspondent of the Colombian magazine "Art Nexus" and collaborator of "Arte al Día". She has been director / editor of the cultural magazine "Cariforum". Commander of the Order of Duarte, Sanchez and Mella, maximum Dominican decoration. In 2015, he received the National Corripio Foundation Award for the best articles on culture in the Media, and has just received recognition from the Chamber of Deputies as Woman relevant 2017. She has been awarded by the Dominican Association of Art Critics as the best Art Critic in the Media: years 2011, 2013, 2016. Currently, she is the Director of the National Gallery of Fine Arts, a branch of the Ministry of Culture of the RD and is also curator of the newly opened Museum Fernando Peña Defilló and member of its patrimonial Foundation.
Janet Batet Art historian, curator and essayist. Graduated with a degree in Art History from the University of Havana (1987-1092) and Master's studies in New Media at the UQAM University of Montreal (2002-2004). Former researcher and curator of the Visual Arts Development Center (1992-1998), Havana, Cuba and Full Professor at the Higher Institute of Art, in the City of Havana and member of the CIFO Advisory Committee (Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation) His research is oriented towards new technologies and contemporary art with special attention to Latin American and Caribbean artistic practices. She is a curator of Latin American Graphics of the XX-XXI centuries. Member of the management team that laid the foundations of the Contemporary Cuban Art Salon, based in Havana. He also collaborated as a specialist in Caribbean Art for the 1st Montreal Biennial, with the CIAC (International Contemporary Art Center, Montreal). His writings on contemporary art are regularly published in prestigious periodicals such as Art Nexus, Art Daily, Art Pulse, Art Experience: NYC, The New Herald, Art District, Cuban Art, Cuban Art News, Themes, The Miami Rail, Knight Arts Miami, among others.
