Hablar del Maestro Oviedo es hablar de uno de los máximos exponentes del gran arte latinoamericano a quien sitúan los expertos al nivel de Wifredo Lam, Rufino Tamayo y Roberto Matta entre otros.
El Maestro Oviedo, condecorado por el Estado de Francia como Caballero en la Orden de las Artes y las Letras, tiene su autorretrato en ese templo de la cultura universal que es la Galería degli Uffizi en Florencia, Italia y ha recibido las mayores condecoraciones de su natal República Dominicana.
Oviedo desde joven se destaca en el campo de las artes y en su compromiso social. En 1965 se convierte en el máximo creador en el comando cultural de la Revolución de Abril y gana el primer premio de pintura con motivo de dicha revolución con su obra titulada “24 de abril”. En 1969 y 1970 obtiene el Primer Premio de Pintura en el Concurso E. León Jiménes y en el 1974 obtiene el Primer Gran Premio de Honor en la Bienal Nacional con su obra “Uno que va, uno que viene…..¨. A partir del 1974, el Maestro Dominicano decide no participar más en concursos nacionales o extranjeros y solo participa como invitado especial fuera de concurso. Su obra ha sido expuesta en Europa, Sur y Centro América, EEUU y en su natal República Dominicana entre otros.
Las siete obras que se presentan en esta ocasión con motivo del 95 aniversario de su nacimiento fueron creadas entre los años de 1996 y 2003, han sido expuestas en diferentes exhibiciones internacionalmente, Nos complace invitarles a disfrutar de un Arte que ofrece algo que ver, algo que pensar, y un infinito por descubrir.

Master Oviedo, awarded by the State of France as Knight in the Order of Arts and Letters, has his self-portrait in that temple of universal culture that is the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy and has received the highest decorations of his Natal Dominican Republic.
Oviedo from a young age stands out in the field of arts and its social commitment. In 1965 he became the greatest creator in the cultural commando of the April Revolution and won the first prize for painting on the occasion of that revolution with his work entitled "24 de abril". In 1969 and 1970 he obtained the First Prize for Painting in the Contest E. León Jiménes and in 1974 he obtained the First Grand Prize of Honor in the National Biennial with his work "Uno que va, uno que viene ... ..¨. As of 1974, the Dominican Master decides not to participate more in national or foreign competitions and only participates as a special guest out of competition.
