La artista española Guiomar Álvarez de Toledo presentará su primera exposición en República Dominicana. Se trata de “Pasión por la vida”, una muestra que se inaugura este próximo jueves 3 de mayo en la Galería Nacional de Bellas Artes, con la crítica de arte Marianne de Tolentino como curadora. “Pasión por la vida” consta de un total de 20 pinturas, las cuales se exhibirán en dos salas de la referida galería. Álvarez de Toledo, quien llegó al país en septiembre pasado junto a su esposo, el actual embajador de España, explica que en una de las salas presenta pinturas traídas desde Madrid integradas por toros, elefantes, caballos, monos y perros. “En esta parte de la exposición muestro muchos cuadros de toros, que hice en España, donde me dediqué por varios años a la pintura taurina. De manera general, quiero reflejar el amor al animal, pues comprendo que todas las personas deben tomar conciencia sobre el cuidado y el respeto a estos seres que también tienen alma”, indica.
Mientras que en la otra sala, la artista plástica expone sus obras de la etapa dominicana, como ella misma la nombra. “Son cuadros que he hecho aquí, donde plasmo lo que he visto desde mi llegada. Es bueno aclarar que no quise meterme mucho en lo que es la cultura de República Dominicana, porque llevo poco tiempo, y sería un atrevimiento de mi parte hacerlo. Aun no conozco a fondo la cultura e idiosincrasia del dominicano. Estas pinturas solo tienen algunos rasgos de la gente”, describe la artista, quien tiene una trayectoria de más de 25 años en las artes plásticas.
Sostiene que le gusta mucho la gente dominicana y sus ganas de vivir. Cuenta que muchos amigos que habían visitado el país le hablaban de Bávaro, Punta Cana, y sus maravillosas playas y hoteles, pero eso nunca llamó su atención, pues efectivamente, una vez arribó aquí, lo que le apeteció fue lo popular, la gente… “Los dominicanos tienen unas tremendas ganas de vivir, y creo que después de haber visitado tantos países, en este es que las personas tienen más ganas de vivir. Aquí la gente tiene una tranquilidad que me contagia”, dice.
Explica que la pintura principal de “Pasión por la vida” es una exuberante mujer morena cantando. “Quise pintar este cuadro porque me ha llamado mucho la atención el hecho de que aquí no tienen complejos con el peso. En España, por ejemplo, cuando estás un poquito gorda te pones ropa holgada, para disimular las libras de más, en cambio, en este país se ponen ropa apretada. He querido pintar a una morena cantando a la vida, sin complejos, feliz…”, afirma. Además, esta parte de la muestra incluye pinturas de niñas dominicanas jugando.
Las obras son a blanco y negro, con puñados de figuras geométricas de diversos colores. La exposición estará abierta hasta finales de mayo. Sobre la artista. Spanish artist Guiomar Álvarez de Toledo will present her first exhibition in the Dominican Republic. While in the other room, the artist exhibits her works of the Dominican stage, as she herself names it. "These are paintings that I have made here, where I capture what I have seen since my arrival. It is good to clarify that I did not want to get too involved in the culture of the Dominican Republic, because I have not had much time, and it would be a bit daring on my part to do it. I still do not know in depth the culture and idiosyncrasies of the Dominican. These paintings only have some features of the people ", describes the artist, who has a career of more than 25 years in the plastic arts. He maintains that he likes Dominican people very much and their desire to live. He says that many friends who had visited the country talked to him about Bávaro, Punta Cana, and its wonderful beaches and hotels, but that never caught his attention, because indeed, once he arrived here, what he wanted was the popular, the people ... "Dominicans have a tremendous desire to live, and I think that after visiting so many countries, this is where people have more desire to live. Here, people have a tranquility that infects me, "he says. He explains that the main painting of "Passion for life" is a lush brunette woman singing. "I wanted to paint this painting because I was struck by the fact that here they do not have complex with the weight. In Spain, for example, when you are a little fat you wear loose clothing, to hide the extra pounds, instead, in this country they put on tight clothes. I wanted to paint a brunette singing to life, without complexes, happy ... ", she says. In addition, this part of the sample includes paintings of Dominican girls playing. The works are black and white, with handfuls of geometric figures of different colors. The exhibition will be open until the end of May. About the artist. Guiomar Álvarez de Toledo was born in Asturias. His first contacts with art were through photography. Years later, he ventured into painting. Álvarez de Toledo's works have covered countries such as Spain, Miami, Germany, France and Holland.
