INTRODUCTION

The exhibition The father is made of glass the mother of gold emerged in the Dumé grocery store, one of the few that exist within the verticality of Piantini, after the inauguration of an exhibition in one of the “boutique” galleries in the area in March 2020. Those of us who were there, Julianny Ariza Vólquez, Elisa Bergel Melo, Charlie Quezada and José Morbán, we talked about the lack of group exhibitions outside of institutional proposals and that the local scene leaned towards an individualism dictated by the fragile market. By then the pandemic was imminent and, after a few weeks, we had to quarantine, so the conversation was shelved for a year. When the Cultural Center of Spain in Santo Domingo asked us to do an exhibition, the obvious thing was to take up the idea of the collective and include Eliazar Ortiz to complete the quintet. Given that one of the purposes of the CCE is the preservation of tangible, intangible and natural heritage, it was appropriate for us to propose revisions about our heritage, what it represents and the context where it is developed, in search of closer ties with other areas of knowledge such as they are archeology, anthropology, poetry and writing. The texts compiled here are the result of conversations about these interests with: Soraya Aracena,! Aís Espaillat, Fátima Portorreal, Julia Lucrecia Taveras and Roberto Valcárcel Rojas, who re # exion around the significance of heritage from their personal work, with the $ n to start a discussion that extends beyond the visual arts. In Los Morbán and the aesthetics of history, Aracena takes a journey through her long-standing relationship with Fernando Morbán, José Morbán's grandfather, who was an archaeologist and researcher 3The father is made of glass, the gold mother of the Museum of the Dominican Man . Espaillat questions the relationship between heritage, country and nation in the poem I did not consent to have a past. Portorreal, in her analysis of Playful Singularities, describes Eliazar Ortiz's Tiguerites built with organic pigments, "creative spirits that inhabit every inch of wonder." Taveras recounts the experience of a girl during Hurricane Georges in 1998 in Huragán. And finally, Valcárcel Rojas in On How to Look and Choose Our Past, reviews through the work of Julianny Ariza Vólquez, the heritage left by the indigenous peoples of the Antilles after the colonization process. We would like to think that this small publication will serve to enrich the same heritage from which the works arose. A way of resisting the individualism that gave rise to the conversations started this project as well as the uncertain future that colors our stories.

The exhibition The father is made of glass, the golden mother invites us to delve into the critical discourses of the artists that make up this exhibition about the material and natural heritage in which they develop. All of them pose the heritage as an inheritance belonging to the community, and, therefore, not exempt from reviews.

Julianny Ariza Vólquez, Elisa Bergel Melo, José Morbán, Eliazar Ortiz and Charlie Quezada deal with non-“official” discourses from contemporary languages and address, from a retrospective view, untold stories. They intend to appeal to the ties that are established from emotion, consider our experience with nature through imagination and question the coercive possibilities of heritage from the institutional point of view.

The exhibition has the participation of Soraya Aracena, Thaís Espaillat, Julia Lucrecia Taveras, Fátima Portorreal and Roberto Valcárcel Rojas as guests of each artist. They collaborate with five texts that reflect on the significance of heritage from their areas of personal work, in order to initiate a debate that extends beyond the visual arts and positions the theme of the exhibition from multiple perspectives that are enriched each.
