Dibujos fuera de lo común, revelados en el umbral de los años 90, anunciaron en Pascal Meccariello un artista dominicano para el tercer milenio. El se perfilaba como un virtuoso de la línea, creador de extraños personajes y de atmósferas mágicas. Su humor barroco se expresaba en blanco y negro, ya con grandes formatos verticales. Se podría decir que él pasó luego a la condición humana, pero centrada en sí mismo, su cuerpo, las vicisitudes y experiencias personales metaforizadas como colectivas y universales. Una curiosidad insaciable y la rápida incursión en manifestaciones internacionales impulsaron la evolución de su lenguaje.
El artista, trabajador encarnizado y ansioso de investigación, no ha dejado de seducirnos y sorprendernos. Pascal mantiene todavía la misma sonrisa, interior pero comunicante, tímida pero segura, que corresponde a su personalidad, compleja, generosa y apasionada.
Ahora, sobre el papel, el artista proyecta una multiplicidad abierta y polivalente de soluciones, con un despliegue en el espacio: ritmos, gestos, formas, personajes, temas, geometrías. A lápiz y tinta agrega pigmentos mixtos, él domina también la pintura y el (en)canto del color, que ilumina y anima los fondos. Una categoría nunca lo ha satisfecho, así, él introduce recortes y collage en sus “Historias en Kirigami”.
La obra de hoy, si nos atrevemos a una síntesis, se asemeja pues a discursos espaciales que, a través de signos y señuelos, proyectan el dinamismo del ser humano –hombre y mujer-, vuelto interioridades y pensamientos, más que la representación externa y material. Cuerpo e imagen, mente y mito, se expresan en la creación de Pascal Meccariello, que privilegia la conceptualización ampliada pero también la capacidad de diseño gráfico, hasta una simetría horizontal y vertical.
Hemos de mencionar especialmente la constante presencia del círculo, símbolo de la armonía suprema, sea un elemento –rico en variaciones-, o la forma condicionante en el “Mundo interior”, óptico y cinético, pintura absoluta de ritmo embriagador.
Pascal última la ejecución hasta la exquisitez de una realización inmejorable…que irradia perfección. Sus nuevos superhéroes son una diversión, tan deleitable como seria: formando parte del caudal imaginario y absorbiendo la leyenda, ellos nos invitan a la percepción de una (sur)realidad sin fronteras, de una (re)visión del mundo…Hoy, “Historias en Kirigami”…, mañana, podrían doblarse en Origami. Pascal Meccariello nos habla de fragilidad, ¡que él nos permita hablar de su fuerza!
HISTORIAS EN KIRIGAMI
Historias en Kirigami es el preludio de un nuevo proceso, a su vez la continuación de mi búsqueda a través de las posibilidades técnicas del papel y otros materiales relativos.
Partiendo de la técnica de los recortes decorativos llamada Kirigami en Japón, armo estas breves historias visuales, manipulando conceptos mitológicos guiado por memorias de la infancia, esa etapa vulnerable donde era común jugar con papel y tijeras con la inconsciencia de la ingenuidad, quizá sin presentir que en un futuro lo que era un juego sería un recurso esencial de mi discurso, pues lo básico, lo simple, visto con los ojos de la creatividad forja el instinto que genera en mi objetivos fundamentales y da origen a propuestas más o menos complejas; proponiendo mundos e historias, así como múltiples lecturas de éstas.
Hace tiempo que hurgo ahí, en lo simple que a simple vista no se ve, en los rastros de ínfimos detalles que mudaron al olvido, esencia de lo frágil, de lo que es tan común, lo tan presente que llega a desaparecer ante un contexto cada vez más frívolo.
Es esta mi oportunidad de mostrar esas simples cosas, un cuento o muchos que sin punto de partida ni final, toman rumbo hacia las miradas curiosas y la sutil reflexión.

Unusual drawings, revealed on the threshold of the 1990s, heralded in Pascal Meccariello a Dominican artist for the third millennium. He was outlined as a virtuoso of the line, creator of strange characters and magical atmospheres. His baroque humor was expressed in black and white, already with large vertical formats. It could be said that he then went on to the human condition, but centered on himself, his body, the vicissitudes and personal experiences metaphorized as collective and universal. An insatiable curiosity and the rapid foray into international demonstrations drove the evolution of his language.
The artist, a hard worker and eager for research, has not ceased to seduce and surprise us. Pascal still maintains the same smile, interior but communicative, shy but sure, which corresponds to his complex, generous and passionate personality.
Now, on paper, the artist projects an open and versatile multiplicity of solutions, unfolding in space: rhythms, gestures, shapes, characters, themes, geometries. In pencil and ink he adds mixed pigments, he also dominates painting and the (en)chantment of color, which illuminates and animates the backgrounds. One category has never satisfied him, so he introduces cut-outs and collage in his “Stories in Kirigami”.
Today's work, if we dare to make a synthesis, is therefore similar to spatial discourses that, through signs and decoys, project the dynamism of the human being -man and woman-, turned into interiorities and thoughts, more than the external representation and material. Body and image, mind and myth, are expressed in the creation of Pascal Meccariello, who privileges expanded conceptualization but also graphic design capacity, even horizontal and vertical symmetry.
We must especially mention the constant presence of the circle, a symbol of supreme harmony, be it an element -rich in variations-, or the conditioning form in the "Inner World", optical and kinetic, absolute painting with an intoxicating rhythm.
Pascal finalizes the execution until the exquisiteness of an unbeatable realization... that radiates perfection. His new superheroes are fun, as delightful as they are serious: forming part of the imaginary flow and absorbing the legend, they invite us to the perception of a (sur)reality without borders, of a (re)vision of the world…Today, “Historias in Kirigami”…, tomorrow, they could fold in Origami. Pascal Meccariello speaks to us of fragility, that he allows us to speak of his strength!
STORIES IN KIRIGAMI
Stories in Kirigami is the prelude to a new process, in turn the continuation of my search through the technical possibilities of paper and other related materials.
Starting from the technique of decorative cutouts called Kirigami in Japan, I put together these brief visual stories, manipulating mythological concepts guided by childhood memories, that vulnerable stage where it was common to play with paper and scissors with the unconsciousness of naivety, perhaps without premonition that in the future what was a game would be an essential resource for my discourse, because the basic, the simple, seen through the eyes of creativity, forges the instinct that generates in my fundamental objectives and gives rise to more or less complex proposals; proposing worlds and stories, as well as multiple readings of these.
I have been delving there for a long time, in the simple things that cannot be seen with the naked eye, in the traces of tiny details that have been forgotten, the essence of what is fragile, of what is so common, so present that it disappears in a context. increasingly frivolous.
This is my opportunity to show those simple things, a story or many that without a starting point or end, take a course towards curious looks and subtle reflection.
