bien curada, y bien estructurada en su contenido.

El carnaval es sin dudas nuestra principal fiesta popular y que por su naturaleza y contagio atrae cientos de miles en sus asiduas y extensas convocatorias una vez iniciada la cuaresma. Febrero ha sido tradicionalmente la fecha de celebración de estas festividades y coincide con las fechas patrias dándole al mismo un ribete patriótico que, a veces confunde sus motivos, pero sin patria no hay carnaval y sin identidad no hay patria, por tanto, esta digresión es más que todo de tipo conceptual y no de sentimiento de pertenencia o de confusión de intereses, para los dominicanos una cosa y la otra van de la mano.
Precisamente en este mes de febrero el Centro Cultural Banreservas inauguró una exposición de Carnaval a partir de una selecta curaduría de fotos de seis artistas del lente, que nos deleitan con su ojo estético para disfrutar esa otra mirada del carnaval en medio de la pandemia que ya nos arropa por más de un año.
Esta decisión de la Dirección del Centro Cultural Banreservas dirigida por Mijaíl Peralta, joven inquieto y audaz, nos permite valorar cómo la cultura se entrecruza con la vida social, política, sanitaria y ante catástrofes naturales sin dejar de expresarse, a pesar del dolor, la angustia y la desolación que estos hechos nos puedan producir. Celebramos esta muestra bien concebida, bien montada, bien curada, y bien estructurada en su contenido, de manera que podamos disfrutarla aún dentro de los protocolos que impone el momento. La iniciativa expositiva se acompañará de un ciclo de actividades que dialogarán con el motivo de la convocatoria que implica la naturaleza de centro cultural de esta institución, por tanto, es un ingrediente más para el conocimiento, la valoración y el placer que esta muestra de fotografías del carnaval pueda entregarnos en estos momentos difíciles que vive la humanidad por el impacto de la pandemia del Covid 19.
Desde temáticas antropológicas, hasta el colorido de trajes y decorados corporales que son parte de la semiótica del carnaval, la muestra nos lleva a la creatividad de la gente, la originalidad de sus talentos y la ingeniosa manera de comunicar con sátira, crítica, humor, arte popular y sarcasmo, hechos de la cotidianidad y de la vida social de nuestro país. Cada foto de esta muestra es un documento que nos permite dimensionar el carnaval como un patrimonio vivo del pueblo dominicano y de su gran imaginario creativo para contar, con los pies hacia arriba, la otra historia, la que la permisibilidad del carnaval nos hace posible sin censura, ni atavíos.
El reservorio informativo, de conocimiento y experiencias de Dagoberto Tejeda es parte de esta extraordinaria muestra carnavalesca, pues en los últimos 40 años es muy difícil hablar de carnaval sin que Dagoberto sea parte de la narración. Ha sido Dago un protagonista de los procesos transformadores de nuestro carnaval en los últimos años y por eso en la conceptualización, definición de los alcances de la muestra fotográfica, la forma del proyecto y el manejo de la curaduría, estuvo su ojo clínico para presentarnos una buena exposición con contenido, colorido, temáticas, vivencias y rostros del carnaval dominicano que disfrutamos en el Centro Cultural Banreservas e invitamos que lo visiten y se lleven la impresión que me causó tan hermosa muestra y que además tendrá esa programación talleres, conferencias, conversatorios y otras animación.
El carnaval sigue siendo uno de nuestros retos para su integración a la lista de patrimonio intangible por su potencialidad creatividad, su masificación en el gusto de la gente, su valor patrimonial desde la colonia hasta nuestros días, por su riqueza y originalidad además de su fuerza identitaria y de talento, sumado a la autenticidad y fuerza imaginativa del pueblo dominicano que es al fin y al cabo el propietario de tan valioso patrimonio nacional.
Dedicada al gran fotógrafo santiaguero Alfonso Khouri Zouain, la muestra se hace acompañar de 6 artistas de gran calidad: Mariano Hernández, Tony Foundeur, Juan de los Santos, Odalis Rosado, Mary Francés Attía y Guadalupe Rodríguez. 24 fotografías son las seleccionadas, 6 trajes de diablos y 8 caretas son parte de las instalaciones adicionales que adornan los salones del Centro Cultural Banreservas; libros, videos, artesanía, guirnaldas, sonidos, espejos y cascabeles alegóricos al carnaval completan la muestra: “El mundo al revés. El carnaval en la República Dominicana”, recordándonos que aún en medio de las vicisitudes, podemos darle sentido a la vida

Carnival is undoubtedly our main popular festival and that by its nature and contagion attracts hundreds of thousands in its regular and extensive calls once Lent begins. February has traditionally been the date of celebration of these festivities and coincides with the national dates giving it a patriotic edge that sometimes confuses its motives, but without a country there is no carnival and without identity there is no country, therefore, this digression is more than anything of a conceptual nature and not of a feeling of belonging or confusion of interests, for Dominicans one thing and the other go hand in hand.
Precisely in this month of February the Banreservas Cultural Center inaugurated a Carnival exhibition based on a select curation of photos by six lens artists, who delight us with their aesthetic eye to enjoy that other look of the carnival in the middle of the pandemic that already covers us for more than a year.
This decision of the Banreservas Cultural Center Directorate directed by Mijaíl Peralta, a restless and audacious young man, allows us to assess how culture intersects with social, political, health and natural disasters without ceasing to express himself, despite the pain, the anguish and desolation that these events can cause us.
We celebrate this show well conceived, well mounted, well curated, and well structured in its content, so that we can enjoy it even within the protocols imposed by the moment. The exhibition initiative will be accompanied by a cycle of activities that will dialogue with the reason for the call, which implies the nature of the cultural center of this institution, therefore, it is one more ingredient for knowledge, appreciation and pleasure than this exhibition of photographs Carnival can deliver us in these difficult times that humanity is experiencing due to the impact of the Covid 19 pandemic.
From anthropological themes, to the coloring of costumes and body decorations that are part of the semiotics of carnival, the exhibition takes us to the creativity of the people, the originality of their talents and the ingenious way of communicating with satire, criticism, humor, popular art and sarcasm, facts of daily life and social life in our country. Each photo in this sample is a document that allows us to dimension the carnival as a living heritage of the Dominican people and their great creative imagination to tell, with their feet up, the other story, the one that the permissibility of carnival makes us possible without censorship, nor attire.
The information, knowledge and experiences reservoir of Dagoberto Tejeda is part of this extraordinary carnival show, because in the last 40 years it is very difficult to talk about carnival without Dagoberto being part of the narrative. Dago has been a protagonist of the transforming processes of our carnival in recent years and that is why in the conceptualization, definition of the scope of the photographic exhibition, the form of the project and the management of the curatorship, his clinical eye was present to present us with a good exhibition with content, colors, themes, experiences and faces of the Dominican carnival that we enjoy at the Banreservas Cultural Center and we invite you to visit it and take the impression that such a beautiful show caused me and that will also have workshops, conferences, talks and other animation.
Carnival continues to be one of our challenges for its integration into the list of intangible heritage due to its potential creativity, its massification in people's taste, its heritage value from the colony to the present day, due to its wealth and originality as well as its strength. identity and talent, added to the authenticity and imaginative force of the Dominican people who are, after all, the owner of such a valuable national heritage.
Dedicated to the great Santiago photographer Alfonso Khouri Zouain, the exhibition is accompanied by 6 high-quality artists: Mariano Hernández, Tony Foundeur, Juan de los Santos, Odalis Rosado, Mary Francés Attía and Guadalupe Rodríguez. 24 photographs are selected, 6 devil costumes and 8 masks are part of the additional facilities that adorn the rooms of the Banreservas Cultural Center; books, videos, crafts, garlands, sounds, mirrors and bells allegorical to the carnival complete the exhibition: “The world upside down. Carnival in the Dominican Republic ”, reminding us that even in the midst of vicissitudes, we can give meaning to life
