Museo Cándido Bidó / Bonao, RD. Ubicado en la plaza de la Cultura de Bonao, se encuentra el Museo Cándido Bidó, una edificación donde reposa la obra del maestro, parte de su historia y legado a la tierra que le vio nacer. Los terrenos donde fue edificada la plaza fueron donados por el Ayuntamiento Municipal de Bonao, durante la sindicatura de Alfonso Fermín (fallecido), y la Iglesia católica, que en ambos casos cedieron los terrenos para que allí se edificara la plaza, porque en este terreno era que estaba construida la primera iglesia de la comunidad.
El primer edificio fue construido en 1992. La idea surge del interés de Cándido de legar a sus coterráneos una entidad a través de la cual, las personas de la comunidad, con talento, pero carente de recursos económicos, tuvieran esa vía para desarrollarse y poder convertirse en artistas.
Es más tarde cuando se concibe la idea de crear un museo con su obra y los trabajos de otros artista internacionales, que motivados por la iniciativa del maestro, más tarde donaron sus obras.
La Plaza de la Cultura de Bonao, a su vez está compuesta por un Centro de Artes, integrado por cinco escuelas. Las escuelas de Artes Visuales, Teatro, Danza (clásica y moderna), de Música, la Orquesta Sinfónica Juvenil y la Escuela de Educación Especial.
La edificación tiene en una de sus paredes un mural dedicado a la Falconbridge, al ayuntamiento y al pueblo de Bonao. También en su fachada principal tiene otro mural, una de las típicas caras representativas de las obras de Bidó.
El museo está instalado en un edificio de cuatro niveles, además del sótano que es una especie de bóveda de obras de arte. El primer nivel es la exposición retrospectiva permanente del Maestro Cándido Bidó, con obras significativa de su autoría de diferentes etapas desde la época del 60 hasta sus últimos trabajos. Ese espacio es también escenario de exposiciones de los principales maestros de la plástica dominicana.
En el segundo nivel es una colección de los premios de la bienal organizada por la plaza, y también se encuentra la Sala de los Artistas Internacionales, donde descansa una colección importantísima de maestros latinoamericanos, con obras donadas a la institución por gestiones del propio Bidó, obras de maestros de la talla de Guillermo Trujillo, Manuel Chornito y Olga Sinclaire, entre otros. Y el cuarto nivel, cuenta con una réplica de una reproducción de la obra seriada de la Tauromaquia de Goya que es una obra única en toda la región del Caribe. Se trata de una colección histórica.
También una colección de piezas taínas que han sido encontradas en las excavaciones, por tratarse esta de una provincia minera y en determinado momento, en el movimiento de tierra de las empresas mineras, puede aparecer una pieza y ellos nos las hacen llegar. Por eso el museo cuenta con una serie de piezas únicas para mostrar al público en general.
El museo cuenta con una agenda, de actividades en las que se presentan exposiciones no solo de artistas locales, es decir, de la provincia, sino que aquí se presentan las obras de artistas de todo el país y también extranjeros que visitan el museo. El museo es el coordinador de la Bienal, Bonao Premio Paleta de Nikel, una bienal que ya lleva su tercera versión, precisamente se encuentran en los preparativos de una cuarta entrega.
La convocatoria para esta bienal es para dominicanos y extranjeros residentes en el país, a quienes se invita a participar en un concurso en el cual muestran al país sus experimentos estéticos.
Este es un evento que cuenta con el apoyo de la empresa minera y de la Fundación Falcondo y donde se otorgan premios metálicos y diplomas a las diferentes categorías. Como Fundación Bonao para la Cultura, cuentan con un personal que va desde personal administrativo, técnico y docente, este último, es el responsable de los estudiantes de las diferentes escuelas del centro y tenemos también el personal que labora en el museo, guía, coordinador de plata, curador, museógrafos, algunos son honoríficos, otros son remunerados, a veces contratamos personas extra para diferentes actividades.
Valentín explica que en la actualidad están laborando con un déficit de más de 100 mil pesos, pero tiene esperanza en que las autoridades tomen en cuenta la labor que desarrolla la entidad, durante la vida y después de la partida del maestro Cándido Bidó, continuando con los proyectos y los trabajos culturales, los cuales realizan enfrentando múltiples limitaciones.
Explica que el proyecto inició con los recursos del propio Cándido Bidó y que él ha continuado tocando las puertas de las diferentes instituciones públicas y privadas para poder seguir adelante.
“Esperamos que nos puedan aumentar los recursos para dar continuidad a los trabajos y dar inicio a los proyectos que aún tenemos engavetados”, afirma. En estos momentos, la parte financiera es la que más preocupa a los miembros de la Junta Directiva, que esperan recibir el apoyo necesario para continuar su labor

The museum is installed in a four-level building, in addition to the basement that is a kind of vault of works of art. The first level is the permanent retrospective exhibition of Maestro Cándido Bidó, with significant works of his authorship from different stages from the 60's to his last works. This space is also the scene of exhibitions of the main masters of Dominican art.
In the second level is a collection of the biennial awards organized by the square, and there is also the International Artists Room, where an important collection of Latin American masters rests, with works donated to the institution by Bidó's own efforts, works of teachers of the stature of Guillermo Trujillo, Manuel Chornito and Olga Sinclaire, among others. And the fourth level, has a replica of a reproduction of the serial work of the Tauromaquia de Goya that is a unique work in the entire Caribbean region. It is a historical collection.
Also a collection of Taino pieces that have been found in the excavations, since this is a mining province and at a certain moment, in the movement of land of the mining companies, a piece can appear and they are sent to us. That is why the museum has a series of unique pieces to show to the general public.
The museum has an agenda, of activities in which exhibitions are presented not only by local artists, that is, the province, but here the works of artists from all over the country and also foreigners who visit the museum are presented. The museum is the coordinator of the Biennial, Bonao Premio Paleta de Nikel, a biennial that already has its third version, they are precisely in the preparations for a fourth installment.
The call for this biennial is for Dominicans and foreigners residing in the country, who are invited to participate in a contest in which they show the country their aesthetic experiments.
This is an event that has the support of the mining company and the Falcondo Foundation and where metallic awards and diplomas are awarded to the different categories. As Bonao Foundation for Culture, have a staff that goes from administrative, technical and teaching staff, the latter, is responsible for students from different schools in the center and we also have staff who works in the museum, guide, coordinator of silver, curator, museographers, some are honorary, others are remunerated, sometimes we hire extra people for different activities.
Valentín explains that they are currently working with a deficit of more than 100 thousand pesos, but he has hope that the authorities will take into account the work that the entity is doing, during the life and after the departure of maestro Cándido Bidó, continuing with projects and cultural works, which perform facing multiple limitations.
He explains that the project started with the resources of Cándido Bidó himself and that he has continued to knock on the doors of different public and private institutions to be able to move forward.
"We hope that we can increase the resources to give continuity to the work and start the projects that we still have invested," he says. At this time, the financial part is the one that most worries the members of the Board of Directors, who expect to receive the necessary support to continue their work
