La galería de arte contemporáneo Lyle O. Reitzel, fundada en 1995, presentará en su sede de Santo Domingo, el más reciente solo show "Estancias Placenteras" del controvertido artista dominicano, José García Cordero, el próximo jueves 4 de Mayo del 2017, con horario de 7 pm a 11 pm y contará con la presencia del artista.
"Estancias Placenteras" nos remite a un momento del más puro existencialismo en la vida del artista, donde el núcleo principal del cuerpo de obras que conforman la colección han sido creadas bajo la atmósfera atlántica de su nuevo escenario y estudio, ubicado en "Playa Encuentro" de Cabarete, Puerto Plata, RD. Media docena de las piezas a grandes formatos, tienen como protagonista al nadador solitario, aquel indomable personaje mítico que habita en las lagunas, ríos y mares en lugares recónditos de la isla, "Nada me espanta” afirma García Cordero desde su refugio en "Encuentro", Rebuscando en los “Pajonales de Sabana Popa”, entre “los bosques secos, los humedales estériles, las playas in-humanas perdidas” ser, simplemente ser. El artista no es un ermitaño pero si se “aleja de Dios y de los hombres” para “nutrir la fibra profunda que permite lo sensible”. Según García Cordero: "Esta serie de obras operan como un registro del estar. El viento, el sol, el mar, las espumas blancas, el azul que refleja el agua, crean estas obras.
La exhibición también incluye una serie de obras en blanco y negro donde el artista revela a nivel antropológico la situación social y política del país y hace referencia a nuestra historia reciente, donde imperan la corrupción e impunidad en el manejo de la política, al mismo tiempo revisita a su emblemático personaje niño/hombre de los placeres, en la serie "La infancia Dionisos", de acuerdo con la crítica de arte Laura Gil la presencia de "Dionisos" en la obra de García Cordero “trata de la experiencia del Yo en tiempos de anomia. Como latinoamericanos, como dominicanos, como pueblo y nación surgidos de unos procesos históricos de colonialismo y de posterior independencia, constituidos a través de una serie de rupturas y de discontinuidades, que generan en nosotros un cúmulo de contradicciones.” Durante la muestra se exhibirán obras realizadas entre el 2003 y el 2017.
García Cordero estudió pintura con el maestro Hernández Ortega. Con una exitosa carrera de más de 30 años, ha recibido múltiples reconocimientos como: ”Medalla al Mérito” por El Senado de La República de Francia, “Medalla de Oro” en la I y III ‘Bienal del Caribe’, Museo de Arte Moderno, Santo Domingo, ente otros. Ha expuesto sus obras en importantes exposiciones colectivas e individuales en galerías, museos, ferias de arte e instituciones de Europa, Asia, America Latina, El Caribe y Estados Unidos. En 1994, formó parte de “Modern and Contemporary Art of the Dominican Republic”, America’s Society, New York y Bass Museum de Miami Beach, Fl. 1995 exhibe en la exposición itinerante “Caribbean Visions”, Smithsonian Museum , Washington D.C. 1996 es seleccionado para ‘Premio Marco”, Museo Arte Contemporáneo, Monterrey, Mexico. 2003 (Solo) “Human Conditions”, Museum of Latin American Art, Long Beach, California. 2015 ‘Caribes’ Colección Cortés, Museo de San Juan, Puerto Rico, entre otras.
