Fue inaugurado la noche del miércoles en el Centro Cultural Mirador de Santo Domingo el homenaje “Un legado de luz”, con la obras del fenecido cineasta y apasionado de la fotografía, Fernando Báez. La exposición de las imágenes captadas por su lente y la proyección de sus películas, documentales y videos, se extenderá hasta el 2 de julio próximo.
Báez partió hacia la luz el 3 de julio del año pasado, al chocar su vehículo con un animal sobre el puente que cruza el río Yuna en Bonao, precipitándose al vacío. Venía de Jarabacoa. Procedía de una familia de fotógrafos y cinematógrafos profesionales. Era hijo de Deydamia Mella Delmonte y Manuel Báez Pichardo González, siendo su padre pionero en la realización de los primeros “spots” publicitarios de los años años 1962-1964 en el país. Desde niño, Fernando recibió de su padre instrucciones sobre la fotografía y el cine. Su sensibilidad artística nos permitió viajar a través del tiempo con su obra de época “Flor de azúcar” y sus películas de acción como “El rey de Najayo” y “Misión Estrella”.
Estos filmes, siendo modernos y entretenidos, transmiten mensajes transformadores en pro de una sociedad cada vez más justa y sana, sosteniendo una postura rica en valores de profunda fe. También se destacó por sus comerciales de televisión institucionales, resaltados por la calidad fotográfica y el contenido de sus mensajes, especialmente por el sello personal que imprimió a las campañas turísticas de la República Dominicana. Fernando fue un promotor y defensor del medio ambiente y en sus trabajos nos mostró la belleza y riqueza de la flora y la fauna de nuestro país. Además de las proyecciones, “Un legado de luz” incluye conversatorios con actores y relacionados de cada proyecto así como participaciones de cantantes amigos, como Cecilia García, Maridalia Hernández, Roger Zayas, Adalgisa Pantaleón, Héctor Aníbal, Javier Grullón, Silvio Mora, Sergio Echenique, María Fernanda Báez, Arturo Báez y María Cordero (su viuda), acompañados por músicos.

The tribute "A legacy of light" was inaugurated on Wednesday night at the Mirador de Santo Domingo Cultural Center, with works by the late filmmaker and passionate about photography, Fernando Báez. The exhibition of the images captured by his lens and the projection of his films, documentaries and videos will be extended until July 2. Báez left for the light on July 3 of last year, when his vehicle collided with an animal on the bridge that crosses the Yuna river in Bonao, plunging into space. He came from Jarabacoa. It came from a family of professional photographers and cinematographers. He was the son of Deydamia Mella Delmonte and Manuel Báez Pichardo González, being his father a pioneer in the realization of the first advertising spots of the years 1962-1964 in the country. As a child, Fernando received instructions from his father about photography and film. His artistic sensibility allowed us to travel through time with his period work "Flor de azúcar" and his action films such as "El rey de Najayo" and "Misión Estrella". These films, being modern and entertaining, transmit transforming messages in favor of an increasingly just and healthy society, maintaining a position rich in values of deep faith. He also stood out for his institutional television commercials, highlighted by the photographic quality and the content of his messages, especially by the personal stamp that he imprinted on the tourist campaigns of the Dominican Republic. Fernando was a promoter and defender of the environment and in his work he showed us the beauty and richness of the flora and fauna of our country. In addition to the screenings, "A legacy of light" includes talks with actors and related of each project as well as participations of friendly singers, such as Cecilia Garcia, Maridalia Hernandez, Roger Zayas, Adalgisa Pantaleón, Héctor Aníbal, Javier Grullón, Silvio Mora, Sergio Echenique, María Fernanda Báez, Arturo Báez and María Cordero (his widow), accompanied by musicians.
