La Galería de Arte Contemporáneo Lyle O. Reitzel inauguró la nueva exposición individual “Ignorando las Reglas” de Gustavo Acosta, reconocido artista cubano quien presenta sus obras como una investigación sobre la condición humana, utilizando como testimonio no al individuo sino a la huella física de su creatividad.
“Ignorando las Reglas” se convierte en el cuarto solo show del artista organizado por LOR Gallery en Santo Domingo, marcando el retorno de Acosta a República Dominicana a casi 10 años de su última muestra “Time Machine”, y a más de dos décadas de la primera titulada “La Huella del Eclipse”.
La inquietud del autor ha permitido que sus trabajos integren un nuevo y no siempre claro sistema referencial donde signos de ubicuidad, referencia y temporalidad funcionan como si descubriera un sorprendente e inagotable archivo de imágenes, imitando los arbitrarios procedimientos que constantemente nuestra mente distorsiona, edita y magnífica.
Según la crítica y curadora de arte Janet Batet, “los paisajes de las obras están subdivididos por áreas planas de color que establecen una composición de damero, las vistas escogidas son sometidas a una jerarquización visual que se desentiende de la perspectiva tradicional. La grilla superpuesta impone una nueva dinámica perceptiva derivada del tratamiento estilístico y cromático y donde cada recuadro deviene una nueva ventana”.
Las obras de Gustavo Acosta se encuentran en galerías tales como el Centro Wifredo Lam, Teatro Nacional de Cuba, Lowe Art Museum, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Panamá y el Museo del Barrio en Nueva York. Sus creaciones han sido reconocidas con los premios Medalla de Oro de la I Bienal del Caribe (RD), Premio de Pintura del LVII Salón Nacional de Arte en Valdepeñas (ESP), Premio de Pintura del Salón UNEAC en la Habana (CU) y el Premio Nacional de Dibujo de la Primera Bienal de la Habana (CU).
“Ignorando las Reglas”, estará abierta al público desde el 31 de octubre hasta el 10 de diciembre del 2019 en la galería Lyle O. Reitzel, Santo Domingo, donde cada una de las obras mostrarán una cadena de resignificaciones –cuadro dentro del cuadro- imposibilitando acceder al paisaje retratado, cualidades que llevarán al público a sumergirse en un viaje de dimensiones pictóricas.

The Lyle O. Reitzel Contemporary Art Gallery inaugurated the new individual exhibition “Ignoring the Rules” by Gustavo Acosta, a renowned Cuban artist who presents his works as an investigation of the human condition, using as testimony not the individual but the physical footprint of Your creativity
"Ignoring the Rules" becomes the fourth single show of the artist organized by LOR Gallery in Santo Domingo, marking the return of Acosta to the Dominican Republic almost 10 years after his last show "Time Machine", and more than two decades of the first entitled "The Footprint of the Eclipse."
The author's concern has allowed his works to integrate a new and not always clear referential system where signs of ubiquity, reference and temporality work as if he discovered an amazing and inexhaustible archive of images, imitating the arbitrary procedures that constantly our mind distorts, edits and magnificent
According to the critic and art curator Janet Batet, “the landscapes of the works are subdivided by flat areas of color that establish a checkerboard composition, the chosen views are subjected to a visual hierarchy that disregards the traditional perspective. The superimposed grid imposes a new perceptual dynamic derived from the stylistic and chromatic treatment and where each box becomes a new window ”.
Gustavo Acosta's works are found in galleries such as the Wifredo Lam Center, National Theater of Cuba, Lowe Art Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art of Panama and the Museum of the Neighborhood in New York. His creations have been recognized with the Gold Medal awards of the I Biennial of the Caribbean (RD), Painting Prize of the LVII National Art Salon in Valdepeñas (ESP), Painting Prize of the UNEAC Salon in Havana (CU) and the National Drawing Prize of the First Biennial of Havana (CU).
“Ignoring the Rules”, will be open to the public from October 31 to December 10, 2019 at the Lyle O. Reitzel Gallery, Santo Domingo, where each of the works will show a chain of resignifications - box within the picture- making it impossible to access the portrayed landscape, qualities that will lead the public to immerse themselves in a journey of pictorial dimensions.
