Las exposiciones se multiplicarán, celebrando los 100 años del maestro de maestros, Ramón Oviedo. No solo sus obras, también sus palabras impresionan.
Ramón Oviedo es una personalidad excepcional en el arte dominicano. El próximo 7 de febrero corresponde a cien años desde su nacimiento en Barahona, y, aunque disfrutó de una vida longeva, no pudo alcanzar físicamente el siglo. Le faltaron nueve años. ¡2024 va a ser en Santo Domingo el año Ramón Oviedo: todas las instituciones públicas y privadas importantes van a presentar una exposición.
Todavía no conocemos su contenido, salvo que presumimos que el Museo de Arte Moderno va a presentar un panorama de la pintura, de los comienzos hasta el final, y que la Galería Nacional de Bellas Artes eligió los dibujos.
La creatividad de Ramón Oviedo es incomparable: en 1988 hubo una exposición de más de 750 obras, incompleta por cierto, aunque el circuito se hacía muy extenso.

Suponemos que los demás centros propondrán exposiciones temáticas.
Nos limitaremos ahora a una introducción, el despliegue expositivo conlleva comentarios críticos y textos descriptivos, que reflejen los compromisos sucesivos o simultáneos de Oviedo. Sin duda alguna, es el artista que, aparte de incontables muestras en el país, ha expuesto más en el exterior y hubiera tenido aun una mayor proyección internacional si la República Dominicana otorgara más importancia al arte, entre su “marcapaís” y los recursos sobresalientes de su turismo.
Anhelamos ahora que la frecuencia y la grandiosidad’ de las exposiciones “internas” en 2024 provoquen la organización y la aceptación de individuales de Oviedo en el continente americano, en Europa, y ojalá en territorios del Lejano… Oriente. Anhelaríamos que fueran museos. Respecto a la bibliografía, millares de textos en periódicos, revistas y catálogos se escribieron sobre la producción de Ramón Oviedo – pinturas, murales (que no debemos pasar por alto) dibujos, estampas (no tan numerosas excepcionales.
Otra culminación bibliográfica es que han publicado cuatro monografías sobre Ramón Oviedo. Hace falta un catálogo razonado… sería una labor de equipo y de años, pero la creemos realizable, ya que las obras de Ramón Oviedo, cuales sean su formato y su categoría pueden localizarse.
Hay varios videos, pero un gran documental debería filmarse, cuando una obra es trascendental y que no faltan hasta referencias genealógicas ni biográficas, ni profesionales.
Otra singularidad de Ramón Oviedo es la cantidad –increíble y creíble- de distinciones y de premios que él recibió a lo largo de su trayectoria. Si el Premio Nacional de Artes Plásticas se le atribuyó en 2013, suelen mencionar especialmente el Gran Premio de la Bienal Nacional en 1974 –por la formidable pintura: “Uno que Va, Uno que Viene” que el presidente internacional del Jurado, José Gómez Sicre, atribuyó, “gritando”, desde su entrada a la sala de exposiciones.
Hay artistas que evolucionan y maduran toda la vida, aprovechan su pasado y el pasado histórico, enriquecen su experiencia con el presente local y universal aun finalmente irrumpen hacia lo desconocido. Ramón Oviedo se inscribe entre estos, cada vez más sabio, cada vez más riguroso, cada vez más audaz, a la vez seguro e inquieto…
Oviedo renegaba de la abstracción, pretendiendo que no le permitía expresar sus compromisos humanos e ideológicos. Algo casi inconcebible fue que se convirtió casi en el mayor pintor abstracto dominicano de la actualidad, inmerso en la introspección y su mundo interior.
Siempre repiten que la creación tiene una vertiente autobiográfica, en la literatura y el arte, esa idiosincrasia es particularmente fuerte en Ramón Oviedo, no solamente por la frecuencia de los autorretratos… sino que hasta cuando él está ausente de su(s) cuadro(s) tenemos su presencia ideológica y técnica. Es de suponer que algunas exposiciones ilustrarán ese tema…
Sentencias de Ramón Oviedo
Aunque Ramón Oviedo no está considerado como un teórico del arte, tampoco ha escrito un ensayo sobre su ideología al dibujar y pintar, si ensamblamos los preceptos, los consejos, las convicciones que ha enunciado, serían una guía mucho más accesible que cualquier manual doctrinal, revelador además sobre el proceso y el sentir de la creación.
Citaremos algunas de esas frases edificantes, a menudo aforismos, también fáciles de recordar y cuya vigencia observamos.
“La preocupación de querer aportar algo a la solución de los problemas sociales que hoy enfrentamos, es el móvil de mi trabajo artístico”.
“No es posible olvidar cómo repercuten los acontecimientos universales de esta época en nuestra vida individual. Es tal la magnitud de este sortilegio que nos acostumbramos a vivir con la tragedia”.
“Una emotividad espontánea, por encima de convicciones estéticas o académicas, en donde los medios sensoriales imponen sus efectos sobre los métodos pictóricos usados en el arte, caracteriza mi producción artística en toda su trayectoria”.
“La predisposición a no aceptar la labor que verdaderamente vale, es aptitud de mediocres”.
Sabemos que hemos llegado, que hemos venido de algún sitio, ¿pero de dónde?”.

Another singularity of Ramón Oviedo is the amount – incredible and credible – of distinctions and awards that he received throughout his career.
