"A SUS 78 AÑOS DE FUNDADA
ESCUELA NACIONAL DE ARTES VISUALES
Nos sentimos sumamente regocijados al celebrar hoy 19 de Agosto, los 78 años de la fundación de la Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes, llamada hoy día Escuela Nacional de Artes Visuales. Institución creada mediante la ley 311 del 19 de Julio de 1940, y hoy funciona bajo la supervisión de la Dirección General de Bellas Artes.
Como institución formadora en las artes plásticas, su primer director fue Rafael Díaz Niese (1897-1950) figura fundamental en la creación del movimiento artístico moderno dominicano. Desde su fundación se han destacado grandes artistas nacionales e internacionales como lo fueron: Celeste Woss y Gil, Yoryi Morel, Jaime Colson, entre otros de gran importancia que introdujeron el modernismo en el arte dominicano.
Varias generaciones de artistas se han destacado a lo largo de su historia, muchos maestros de ayer y hoy, alumnos han honrado y siguen honrando con su presencia. Puedo expresar el orgullo de que por estas aulas han pasado destacados artistas y se continúa el proceso de aprendizaje para fortalecimiento de las artes y la representación digna de esta. Figuras eximias del arte como Manolo Pascual, José Gausachs, George Hausdorf, condujeron a toda una generación de talentosos artistas como es a la primera directora de la Escuela de Bellas Artes Marianela Jiménez, artista como Clara Ledesma integrante emblemática del grupo Los Cuatros, Eligio Pichardo, Ada Balcácer y Gilberto Hernández Ortega quien fue su director desde 1960 a 1972.
Como dejar de mencionar a otros grandes artistas egresados como lo fue el gran diseñador de modas internacional Oscar De La Renta, Manolo Pascual, Luichy Martinez Richiez, Iván Tovar, Domingo Liz, Elsa Núñez, Rosa Tavarez quien fue su directora en los años del 2000 al 2004. Más de 15 directores han dirigido la Escuela de Artes Visuales en sus 78 años de fundada entre estos Juan Medina, Manuel Toribio, Miguel Valenzuela docentes de la institución.
Hoy 78 años después, la Escuela Nacional de Artes Visuales tiene un cuerpo docente talentoso de 27 artistas y continúa formando nuevos talentos, jóvenes y adultos que se involucran en el trabajo de la creatividad con responsabilidad, que muestran los principios elementales de la formación profesional y humana.
Cada año se cumple con entregar a la sociedad, artistas plásticos con una alta formación crítica, con los conocimientos técnicos y académicos necesarios en su formación, bajo los principios morales y éticos que se caracterizan desde la fundación de la misma.
Celebramos sus 78 años, y a pesar de la pandemia que azota al mundo, seguimos trabajando por el fortalecimiento de la docencia y abrirle más el paso a la academia en su actualización curricular."

"AT 78 YEARS OF FOUNDATION
NATIONAL SCHOOL OF VISUAL ARTS
We are extremely delighted to celebrate today, August 19, the 78th anniversary of the founding of the National School of Fine Arts, today called the National School of Visual Arts. Institution created by Law 311 of July 19, 1940, and today it works under the supervision of the General Directorate of Fine Arts.
As a training institution in the plastic arts, its first director was Rafael Díaz Niese (1897-1950), a fundamental figure in the creation of the modern Dominican art movement. Since its foundation, great national and international artists have stood out, such as: Celeste Woss and Gil, Yoryi Morel, Jaime Colson, among others of great importance who introduced modernism into Dominican art.
Several generations of artists have stood out throughout its history, many teachers of yesterday and today, students have honored and continue to honor with their presence. I can express my pride that outstanding artists have passed through these classrooms and the learning process continues to strengthen the arts and its worthy representation. We celebrate its 78 years, and despite the pandemic that is hitting the world, we continue to work to strengthen teaching and open the way for academia in its curricular update. "
