Galería Lyle O Reitzel presenta “Caos y Orden” de Ignacio Iturria:
La galería Lyle O. Reitzel Arte Contemporáneo, fundada en 1995 y celebrando su 28vo aniversario de existencia, ha inaugurado la esperada exposición individual del venerado artista Ignacio Iturria, titulada “Caos & Orden,” el miércoles 6 de diciembre de 2023 en su espacio en la Torre Piantini; siendo esta su segunda exhibición individual en territorio dominicano. En el 2016, tuvo lugar su histórica primera muestra en Santo Domingo, organizada por la galería, marcando un tsunami cultural memorable. Al mismo tiempo, el artista formó parte de una residencia artística en Portillo, Samana, cortesía de Valeria de Moya.

“Caos & Orden” presenta un cuerpo de obras con una exquisita selección de diferentes épocas a nivel retrospectivo, abarcando un periodo desde 1997-2023.
Según las palabras del artista:
“Ahora, junto con mi querido Lyle, hemos elegido un grupo de obras de diferentes épocas, que pueden acercar mi mirada del mundo y sus circunstancias. En los últimos años, los cuadros aparecen más barrocos y llenos de infinidad de información. Creo que la entrada al mundo del zapping y la multiplicidad de imágenes que vemos en las redes, han hecho que en mi cabeza se muevan muchas ideas y se mezclen. Los objetos y las personas en los cuadros tienen diferentes escalas y temas entrelazados. Finalmente, después de pelear con el caos de manchas con que inició los cuadros, estas se transforman en la infinidad de cosas que nos rodean, quedando ordenado ese caos para mi. Todo cabe en mis cuadros, y así describo una vez más el mundo de hoy. Muchas veces he pensado que fui y soy un cronista subjetivo de mi tiempo.”
El escritor argentino Sergio Chejfec plantea lo siguiente:
“En estas obras encontramos un teatro de la propia ejecución pictórica; el estatuto íntimo de los escenarios representados; un tratamiento panorámico de la mirada; las insólitas proporciones de cosas e individuos, alejadas de cualquier escala real. Las escenas de Iturria buscan decir algo más o distinto de lo que supuestamente muestran. A la vez, sus cuadros escenifican su propia existencia como cuadros. Son dispositivos de exposición.”
Ignacio Iturria, nacido en Montevideo en 1949, es un destacado pintor uruguayo con una carrera artística que abarca décadas y continentes. Ha participado en varias exhibiciones alrededor del mundo, tales como “Pintar Es Soñar” (2015) en el Museo Nacional de Artes Visuales, Montevideo, Uruguay, en el Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes (1999) en Buenos Aires, Argentina, “El Tiempo de las Cosas” (1998) en el Museo Rufino Tamayo en México, “La Soledad del Juego” (1999) con la Fundación Telefónica en el Museo de Bellas Artes de Valencia, Madrid, Alicante y Granada, “New Works” (2000) en Marlborough Gallery en New York, U.S.A., en la Galerie Patrice Trigano en Paris (2002). Así mismo, ha sido reconocido con los premios, “Salón Municipal de Montevideo (1975), El Gran Premio de la Bienal de Cuenca, Ecuador (1994), Premio Especial “Casa di Risparmio” en la Bienal de Venecia, Italia, 1995, el Gran Premio de la XII Bienal de San Juan, Grabados XI Edición ESTAMPA (2003), entre otros. Su obra forma parte de colecciones permanentes en el Museo Nacional de Artes Visuales , Uruguay, el Museo José Luis Cuevas y el Museo Rufino Tamayo en México, Museo de Bellas Artes y el Museo Contemporáneo Sofia Imber en Caracas, Venezuela, el Museo del OEA, Museo Yongeun, Corea, Museo Latinoamericano Fundacion Robert Gumbiner, Long Beach, U.S.A., y el Museo de Arte de Boca Raton, U.S.A.
La exposición estará abierta al público el 31 de enero del 2024.

Lye O. Reitzel gallery presents “Caos & Orden” with Ignacio Iturria:
The Lyle O. Reitzel Contemporary Art Gallery, founded in 1995 and celebrating its 28th anniversary of existence, has inaugurated the long-awaited solo exhibition of the revered artist Ignacio Iturria, titled “Chaos & Orden”, on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, in its space in Piantini Tower; this being the artist’s second individual exhibition in Dominican territory. In 2016, his historic debut exhibition in Santo Domingo, organized by the gallery, marked a cultural tsunami for the ages. During this time, the artist was part of an artistic residency in Portillo, Samaná, courtesy of Valeria de Moya.
“Caos & Orden” presents an exquisite selection of works from different eras at a retrospective level, including a period from 1997-2023. In the words of the artist:
“Now, together with my dear Lyle, a group of works have been chosen from different periods, which can bring my view of the world and its circumstances closer. In recent years, the paintings appear more baroque and full of infinite information. I think that entering the world of zapping and the multiplicity of images that we see on the net have made many ideas move and mix together in my head. The objects and people in the paintings have different scales and intertwined themes. After fighting with the chaos of stains with which the paintings began, these are finally transformed into the infinity of things that surround us, leaving that chaos organized for me. Everything fits in my paintings, and this is how I once again describe today's world. Many times I have thought that I was and am a subjective chronicler of my time.”
The Argentine writer Sergio Chejfec states the following:
“In these works we find a theater of the pictorial execution itself; the intimate status of the scenarios represented; a panoramic treatment of the gaze; the unusual proportions of things and individuals, far from any real scale. Iturria's scenes seek to say something more or different than what they supposedly show. At the same time, his paintings stage their own existence as paintings. They are exhibition devices.”
Ignacio Iturria, born in Montevideo in 1949, is a prominent Uruguayan painter with an artistic career that spans decades and continents. He has participated in several exhibitions around the world, such as “Pintar Es Soñar” (2015) at the National Museum of Visual Arts, Montevideo, Uruguay, at the National Museum of Fine Arts (1999) in Buenos Aires, Argentina, “El Tiempo de las Cosas” (1998) at the Rufino Tamayo Museum in Mexico, “La Soledad del Juego” (1999) with the Telefónica Foundation at the Museum of Fine Arts of Valencia, Madrid, Alicante and Granada, “New Works” (2000) at Marlborough Gallery in New York, U.S.A., at the Galerie Patrice Trigano in Paris (2002). Likewise, he has been recognized with the awards, “Salón Municipal de Montevideo (1975), the Grand Prize at the Cuenca Biennial, Ecuador (1994), the “Casa di Risparmio'' Special Prize at the Venice Biennial, Italy, 1995, the Grand Prize of the XII San Juan Biennial, Engravings XI ESTAMPA Edition (2003), among others. His work is part of permanent collections at the National Museum of Visual Arts, Uruguay, the José Luis Cuevas Museum and the Rufino Tamayo Museum in Mexico, the Museum of Fine Arts and the Sofia Imber Contemporary Museum in Caracas, Venezuela, the OAS Museum, Yongeun Museum, Korea, Museo Latinoamericano Fundación Robert Gumbiner, Long Beach, U.S.A., and the Boca Raton Museum of Art, U.S.A.
The exhibition will be open to the public on January 31, 2024.
