Santo Domingo. ā Unas 200 obras, entre pinturas, esculturas, instalaciones, fotografĆas y videos, conforman la exposiciĆ³n Formula One, del artista dominicano HRSuriel, inaugurada en el segundo nivel del Museo de Arte Moderno (MAM).
Durante el acto protocolar, organizado por el Ministerio de Cultura, la DirecciĆ³n General de Museos y el Museo de Arte Moderno, en colaboraciĆ³n con RDĆ, el director del MAM, Federico Fondeur, ofreciĆ³ las palabras de bienvenida.
El discurso central estuvo a cargo de Gamal MichelĆ©n, viceministro de Patrimonio Cultural, y Amable LĆ³pez MelĆ©ndez, curador en jefe de la exposiciĆ³n. Posteriormente, los crĆticos de arte Odalis G. PĆ©rez y Marianne de Tolentino destacaron la obra y trayectoria del artista.

La exposiciĆ³n estarĆ” abierta al pĆŗblico hasta el 2 de mayo en el segundo nivel del Museo de Arte Moderno, ubicado en la Plaza de la Cultura Juan Pablo Duarte, en Santo Domingo. El ojo del artista convertido en visiĆ³n y materia fantasmal descubre un universo de creaciĆ³n propio que desata los signos y sĆmbolos de una memoria convertida en raĆz, metĆ”fora, vertiente de un sueƱo asumido por el artista mediante un lenguaje abierto a la mirada y el mirar indetenible.
HRSuriel ha creado un modo fascinante de originar materias, formas onĆricas lĆŗcidas, altamente tratadas y traducidas mĆ”s allĆ” del canibalismo y la violencia que presenta su archivo imaginario. Se trata de una tensiĆ³n visual reconocida como estilo en sus piezas. Lo que implica una dialĆ©ctica de lo abierto y lo cerrado que se vuelve sentido mediante el contacto con el espectador.
ĀæQuĆ© ofrece al espectador la obra de HRSuriel? La misma ofrece un aparato estĆ©tico y perceptivo visional que seduce al espectador con sus fĆ³rmulas y vestigios pronunciados por la imagen misma del deseo que motiva la fuerza deseante de su arte.
Ćgave es un mito poema visual donde el artista se autodescubre como cuerpo y grito de su propio ser-memoria. El signo constituido como origen y traslado interpretativo de su-ser-en-el-mundo. Imagen como mito y cosmos a la vez. Agave es sĆmbolo, razĆ³n de impulso, recorrido, grito y levantamiento femenino.
Tragedia de espacio y sinrazĆ³n.
Voluntad de movimiento, incendio de los sentidos.
El aparato instalador, escultĆ³rico y constructivo hecho arte crea su forma-sentido en la obra de HRSuriel. El pliegue que enuncia movilidad neobarroca perturba tambiĆ©n el modelo escogido como sombra y luz. La misma pintura creada por el artista en esta expo-individual desarrolla sus especies de subjetividad y valor. En sus bĆŗsquedas pictĆ³ricas aflora el pedimento de una psicografĆa existencial que remueve el lenguaje mismo de su creaciĆ³nā¦

FORMULA ONE es una propuesta expositiva basada en un extracto representativo de su producciĆ³n de los Ćŗltimos cinco aƱos. Integrada por mĆ”s de 150 obras, la muestra adquiere su equilibrio estructural y museogrĆ”fico a partir de cuatro nĆŗcleos esenciales de trabajos que reafirman la cualidad polifĆ”sica de la producciĆ³n simbĆ³lica de HRSuriel, asĆ como la pulsiĆ³n ontolĆ³gica y disruptiva que signa su prĆ”ctica poĆ©tica.
El primer nĆŗcleo, comprende una selecciĆ³n de 40 obras pictĆ³ricas en diferentes formatos sobre tela, madera y metal, realizadas entre 2020 y 2023. En estas obras, HRSuriel procede desbordando los lĆmites de la imagen, el signo cultural y el gesto expresivo, reintegrando el texto poĆ©tico como elemento sugestivo y desorbitante del sistema pictĆ³rico, la superficie imagĆ©tica y el espacio visual.
El segundo nĆŗcleo, estĆ” compuesto por 30 obras pictĆ³ricas en tĆ©cnica mixta sobre papel de la serie Helium Musa, ejecutada en Casa FrĆa durante el 2020. En estos trabajos, HRSuriel opta por un neoexpresionismo abstracto de lĆquida gestualidad, materializando unos territorios pictĆ³ricos recargados, mutantes y extasiados que establecen un nuevo momento de dilataciĆ³n de sus bĆŗsquedas estĆ©ticas y el mismo estado de hipercreatividad con que se abisma y se reconecta desde el silencio, el sueƱo, su mundologĆa emocional y la vigilia lĆŗdica de la sorpresa con los estados energĆ©ticos de naturaleza.
El tercer nĆŗcleo, estĆ” compuesto por una selecciĆ³n de 20 fotografĆas digitales que admiten su lectura como especie de documentos imagĆ©ticos, saturados de signos, vestigios y espejismos memoriales desdoblados. En esta serie de trabajos, HRSuriel recupera albaquĆas objetuales; resignifica contraluces y destellos fragmentarios y volatiliza sus propios lĆmites recursivos. Rematan este nĆŗcleo la pieza sonoro-visual āCasa balĆstica SinfĆ³nicaā y dos documentales sobre la obra y trayectoria de HRSuriel realizados por Oscar GrullĆ³n y Andrickson Carvajal.
El cuarto nĆŗcleo, estĆ” compuesto por 20 ensamblajes instalables en cuyo proceso resolutivo HRSuriel se vale de un aparatoso sumario de naufragios matĆ©ricos y restos maquĆnicos y objetuales reciclados cuyo piĆ©lago de remisiones simbĆ³licas, dilata su potencial operativo como obras abiertas y/o construcciones recursivas, saturadas de cifras, huellas, travesĆas autorreferenciales y cĆ³digos expansivos. Se trata de obras cuyo lĆŗdico y cĆ”ustico caudal metafĆ³rico jamĆ”s cesa de remitirnos hacia universos ontolĆ³gicos, pasionales, psicohistĆ³ricos y culturales concretos.

Bio resumida
HRSuriel (Hugo Rafael Suriel Suazo), nace en Santo Domingo, el 27 de marzo de 1979. Entre 1996 y 2004, realizĆ³ estudios de Arquitectura y Medicina en la Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE). En el 2008 se consagra a la creaciĆ³n artĆstica. En Arquitectura, HRSuriel ha realizado edificaciones de impacto transformador en su entorno urbanĆstico y social. Entre sus exposiciones, destacan: Aparat, GalerĆa Nader (2010); Sacro+AtĆ³mico (2015); La Estancia de Lata, Museo de Arte Moderno (2017) y Casa BalĆstica, GalerĆa Nacional de Bellas Artes (2019).
En el 2019, publica su libro de poemas Cabeza de Motor y aparece el libro Universalismo visual integrador de HRSuriel, escrito por OdalĆs G. PĆ©rez. En el 2020, la Facultad de Artes y la Escuela de CrĆtica e Historia del Arte de la Universidad AutĆ³noma de Santo Domingo, publican la segunda ediciĆ³n de la monografĆa HRSURIEL/2002-2017. En el 2022, el reconocido cineasta dominicano Andrickson Carvajal, realiza el documental HRSURIEL OntologĆa del Sujeto Artista. En el 2024, HRSuriel, publica su libro Subwoofer. Le monde de lāatelier du Cibao Central. La obra de HRSuriel, forma parte de las colecciones del Museo de Arte Moderno, el Museo de la Catedral y prestigiosas colecciones privadas en RepĆŗblica Dominicana y los Estados Unidos.
Santo Domingo. ā Some 200 works, including paintings, sculptures, installations, photographs and videos, make up the Formula One exhibition by Dominican artist HRSuriel, which opened on the second floor of the Museum of Modern Art (MAM).
During the formal ceremony, organized by the Ministry of Culture, the General Directorate of Museums and the Museum of Modern Art, in collaboration with RDĆ, the director of the MAM, Federico Fondeur, offered the welcoming remarks.
The central speech was given by Gamal MichelĆ©n, Vice Minister of Cultural Heritage, and Amable LĆ³pez MelĆ©ndez, chief curator of the exhibition. Later, art critics Odalis G. PĆ©rez and Marianne de Tolentino highlighted the artist's work and career.

The artist's eye turned into vision and ghostly matter discovers a universe of its own creation that unleashes the signs and symbols of a memory converted into a root, a metaphor, a source of a dream assumed by the artist through a language open to the gaze and the unstoppable gaze.
HRSuriel has created a fascinating way of originating materials, lucid dreamlike forms, highly treated and translated beyond the cannibalism and violence that her imaginary archive presents. It is a visual tension recognized as a style in her pieces. What implies a dialectic of the open and the closed that becomes meaningful through contact with the viewer.
What does HRSuriel's work offer the viewer? It offers an aesthetic and perceptive visional apparatus that seduces the viewer with its formulas and vestiges pronounced by the very image of desire that motivates the desiring force of her art.
Ćgave is a myth visual poem where the artist discovers himself as the body and cry of his own being-memory. The sign constituted as the origin and interpretive transfer of his-being-in-the-world. Image as myth and cosmos at the same time. Agave is a symbol, reason for impulse, journey, cry and feminine uprising.

Will of movement, fire of the senses.
The installation, sculptural and constructive apparatus made into art creates its form-meaning in the work of HRSuriel. The fold that enunciates neo-baroque mobility also disturbs the model chosen as shadow and light. The same painting created by the artist in this solo exhibition develops its species of subjectivity and value. In his pictorial searches the request for an existential psychography emerges that stirs up the very language of his creationā¦

FORMULA ONE is an exhibition proposal based on a representative extract of his production from the last five years. Comprising more than 150 works, the exhibition acquires its structural and museographic balance from four essential cores of works that reaffirm the polyphasic quality of HRSuriel's symbolic production, as well as the ontological and disruptive drive that characterizes his poetic practice.
The first core comprises a selection of 40 pictorial works in different formats on canvas, wood and metal, made between 2020 and 2023. In these works, HRSuriel proceeds to overflow the limits of the image, the cultural sign and the expressive gesture, reintegrating the poetic text as a suggestive and exorbitant element of the pictorial system, the imagery surface and the visual space.
The second core is composed of 30 pictorial works in mixed technique on paper from the Helium Musa series, executed at Casa FrĆa during 2020. In these works, HRSuriel opts for an abstract neo-expressionism of liquid gestures, materializing recharged, mutant and ecstatic pictorial territories that establish a new moment of dilation of his aesthetic searches and the same state of hypercreativity with which he immerses himself and reconnects from silence, sleep, his emotional worldliness and the playful vigil of surprise with the energetic states of nature.
The third core is composed of a selection of 20 digital photographs that can be read as a kind of image documents, saturated with signs, vestiges and unfolded memorial mirages. In this series of works, HRSuriel recovers objectual albaquias; he redefines backlights and fragmentary flashes and volatilizes his own recursive limits. This core is completed by the sound-visual piece āCasa balĆstica Sin The fourth core is composed of 20 installable assemblies in whose resolution process HRSuriel uses a spectacular summary of material shipwrecks and recycled machine and object remains whose sea of āāsymbolic references expands its operational potential as open works and/or recursive constructions, saturated with numbers, traces, self-referential journeys and expansive codes. These are works whose playful and caustic metaphorical flow never ceases to refer us to concrete ontological, passionate, psycho-historical and cultural universes.

HRSuriel (Hugo Rafael Suriel Suazo) was born in Santo Domingo on March 27, 1979. Between 1996 and 2004, he studied Architecture and Medicine at the Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE). In 2008, he devoted himself to artistic creation. In Architecture, HRSuriel has created buildings with a transformative impact on their urban and social environment. His exhibitions include: Aparat, GalerĆa Nader (2010); Sacro+AtĆ³mico (2015); La Estancia de Lata, Museo de Arte Moderno (2017) and Casa BalĆstica, GalerĆa Nacional de Bellas Artes (2019).
In 2019, he published his book of poems Cabeza de Motor and the book Universalismo visual integror de HRSuriel, written by OdalĆs G. PĆ©rez, appeared. In 2020, the Faculty of Arts and the School of Criticism and Art History of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo published the second edition of the monograph HRSURIEL / 2002-2017. In 2022, the renowned Dominican filmmaker Andrickson Carvajal made the documentary HRSURIEL Ontology of the Artist Subject. In 2024, HRSuriel published his book Subwoofer.
