El artista puertorriqueño Rafael Trelles presenta en el Museo de las Américas de San Juan una nueva exhibición titulada La palabra imaginada. La muestra, compuesta por 22 dibujos de mediano a gran formato y realizados con tinta de grabado sobre papel, estará abierta al público hasta el próximo 4 de julio de 2021.

Para realizar estos dibujos Trelles se inspiró en la obra de diferentes tradiciones literarias, en especial la latinoamericana. Con una depurada técnica, el autor recrea personajes de la literatura proponiendo lecturas e interpretaciones inesperadas sin intentar ilustrar los textos, más bien elabora un texto visual alterno que dialoga con la fuente literaria. Las obras invitan a la reflexión sobre el rol activo que ejerce el lector y el espectador cuando aprecian una obra de arte.
Esta exposición, manejada por L’Artban, fue presentada previamente en la Galería Point of Contact de la Universidad de Syracuse en Nueva York y viajará a Orlando en septiembre de 2021 para presentarse en el Museo de Arte de Cornell.

“Trelles logra invertir la tradicional vía del écfrasis en veintidós dibujos donde combina diversas técnicas y medios y donde demuestra una vez más su gran maestría artística. Los dibujos, que a veces parten de un accidente, principio que tanto le gustaba a los maestros del Surrealismo y a Siqueiros, tienen como centro una figura construida a partir de las amplias normas del realismo. Estas figuras apuntan a textos literarios que evidencian la voracidad de nuestro artista como lector y, de manera indirecta, como crítico literario ya que podemos leer estos dibujos como un comentario de los textos que parece meramente ilustrar.”

Rafael Trelles presents his new exhibition The imagined word / Museum of the Americas in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The Puerto Rican artist Rafael Trelles presents at the Museum of the Americas in San Juan a new exhibition entitled The imagined word. The exhibition, made up of 22 drawings in medium to large format and made with engraving ink on paper, will be open to the public until July 4, 2021.
To make these drawings, Trelles was inspired by the work of different literary traditions, especially Latin America. With a refined technique, the author recreates characters from literature proposing unexpected readings and interpretations without trying to illustrate the texts, rather he creates an alternate visual text that dialogues with the literary source. The works invite reflection on the active role played by the reader and the viewer when they appreciate a work of art.
This exhibition, managed by L’Artban, was previously presented at the Point of Contact Gallery at Syracuse University in New York and will travel to Orlando in September 2021 to be presented at the Cornell Museum of Art.

“Trelles manages to reverse the traditional way of ekphrasis in twenty-two drawings where he combines different techniques and means and where he once again demonstrates his great artistic mastery. The drawings, which sometimes stem from an accident, a principle that the masters of Surrealism and Siqueiros liked so much, have as their center a figure built from the broad norms of realism. These figures point to literary texts that show the voracity of our artist as a reader and, indirectly, as a literary critic, since we can read these drawings as a comment on the texts that he seems to merely illustrate.
