SANTO DOMINGO.– La casa de subasta Sotheby’s cerró este lunes la venta de la obra “La menace/La amenaza” del fallecido maestro de la plástica dominicana Iván Tovar por US$250,000, según ha informado el escritor y curador de arte Abil Peralta Agüero en sus redes sociales Facebook.
“Buena noticia para la comunidad artística y cultural del país. Una pintura del artista surrealista dominicano Iván Tovar bate récord en casa de subastas Sotheby’s”, expresó Agüero.
Al compartir la noticia de la venta en Nueva York de la obra, rememoró en su comentario que hace poco tiempo conversó con el restaurador de arte Ruahady Lombert sobre la ruta que iban tomando las pujas sobre la pintura del consagrado pintor dominicano Iván Tovar en la casa internacional de subastas Sotheby’s.
“Y justo hoy el dealer de arte Yury Ruiz, cercano colaborador del maestro Tovar, y el coleccionista Fernando Báez Guerrero, indistintamente me confirman y reconfirman que la pieza fue adquirida la madrugada de ayer, rompiendo el propio récord del artista y para un artista dominicano en toda la historia del arte nacional. Tengo la convicción de que otros maestros nacionales, si se genera un esfuerzo bien articulado desde el sector privado y el Estado dominicano, irán encontrando el espacio y justa valoración que merecen en los escaparates y carteles que dominan el mercado de arte internacional”, reveló.
Agüero agregó: “Como se recordará, meses antes de su triste y repentino fallecimiento el pasado mes, la revista internacional Latin American Art, inglés-español, dedicó su portada de diciembre de 2019, a la obra y trayectoria nacional e internacional de Tovar, sustentada en un ensayo de mi autoría. Se trató de una diligente gestión cultural-editorial de los galeristas dominicanos Juan Julio Bodden, presidente de la Asociación de Galerías de Arte Dominicanas, y Ranier Sebelén, representante en el país de la referida publicación internacional. Para lo cual contaron con la colaboración de los empresarios coleccionistas Alberto Cruz, Fernando Báez Guerrero y Edwin Espinal”.
Sobre el artista
Tovar nació en 1942, en San Francisco de Macorís y en en 1963 se mudó París donde residió por 20 años. Sus obras han sido expuestas en Luxemburgo, Estocolmo, Lisboa, Nueva York, entre otros muchos lugares.
En 1968 fue segundo premio de dibujo en el IV Concurso de Arte Eduardo León Jimenes.
Su obra está inscrita por los críticos de arte en el neosurrealismo, “si bien sus composiciones despliegan un mundo simbólico extremadamente personal”, reseña el portal Galería de Arte Dominicana.

I am convinced that other national teachers, if a well-articulated effort is generated from the private sector and the Dominican State, will find the space and fair value they deserve in the windows and posters that dominate the international art market, ”he revealed.
Agüero added: “As it will be remembered, months before his sad and sudden death last month, the international magazine Latin American Art, English-Spanish, dedicated its cover of December 2019, to Tovar's work and national and international career, supported by an essay of my authorship. It was a diligent cultural-editorial management of the Dominican gallery owners Juan Julio Bodden, president of the Association of Dominican Art Galleries, and Ranier Sebelén, representative in the country of the aforementioned international publication. About the artist
Tovar was born in 1942, in San Francisco de Macorís and in 1963 Paris moved where he lived for 20 years. His works have been exhibited in Luxembourg, Stockholm, Lisbon, New York, among many other places.
In 1968 he was second prize for drawing in the IV Eduardo León Jimenes Art Contest.
His work is inscribed by art critics in neosurrealism, "although his compositions display an extremely personal symbolic world," the portal Galería de Arte Dominicana reviews.
