Antes que todo, dar las gracias a Dios y a las personas e instituciones que hicieron posible esta Gran Exposición con sus patrocinios: al Banco Popular Dominicano, en la Persona del Sr. José Mármol; al Central Romana Corporation, en la persona del Sr. Ramón Menéndez; a INDUMECA, en la persona del Ing. Enrique Ureña, a la Galería Nacional de Bellas Artes, en la persona de la Sra. Marianne de Tolentino, a la Cervecería Nacional Dominicana y a Álvarez & Sánchez, C. por A. Pero, no puedo dejar fuera sin dar las gracias al Sr. Herminio Alberti y su equipo, por su apoyo, entrega, dedicación y coordinación para poder llevar a cabo esta Exposición.

Para mí es un honor hacer esta presentación con motivo de nuestro 40 Aniversario, la historia es larga y no es a mí a quien toca contarla, se la dejo a los historiadores y especialista en esta materia, haré un pequeño recuento… Casi al término del año 1977, específicamente en el mes de octubre, en casa de nuestro amigo, Don Freddy Ginebra, se reunieron los fundadores de nuestro Grupo, con la intensión de organizar, formar y completar la idea de un nuevo Grupo fotográfico, que llamaron Fotogrupo. El gestor y guía fue el Maestro Fotógrafo Wifredo García, quien junto a José Ramón Andújar, Carlos Roedán, Patricio Quiñones, Rafael Medina, Hugo Beras, Leo Madera, entre otros, dieron inicio a una nueva etapa en la creación y formación de agrupaciones fotográficas. Con objetivos definidos y con estatus legal, Fotogrupo fue creado para la práctica, divulgación y desarrollo de la fotografía dominicana. Es extensa la lista de actividades realizadas en estos 40 años y solo enunciaremos los renglones participativos en forma general:

1.- Exposiciones Individuales y colectivas: nacionales e internacionales. 2.- Encuentros Fotográficos 3.- Chalas y Conversatorios 4.- Publicaciones y Audiovisuales 5.- Concursos y Cursos 6.- Participación en Bienales y Congresos Internacionales 7.- Reuniones y viajes fotográficos

Como datos importantes podemos señalar, que la presente muestra colectiva es la No. 56. Que la Membrecía histórica de Fotogrupo ronda los 300 fotógrafos, y por último, que nuestra relación y afiliación a la Federación Internacional del Arte Fotográfico (Fiap) tiene ya 30 años.

En estos 40 años, queremos recordar a cada uno de los miembros que de una u otra forma han aportado su empeño, dedicación y esfuerzo, a esta agrupación, desde sus miembros directivos, sus pasados directores, y aquellos que ya no están es este plano terrenal.

Los participantes de esta exposición son miembros activos, antiguos miembros, miembros no residentes, allegados y/o amigos del grupo, a todos ellos se les impartió algunas directrices para su participación en esta Exposición:

1.- Cada Participante tendría su panel personal 2.- La participación sería de 5 fotos por autor 3.- Se recomendaba un tema por autor o temas que el autor trabaje 4.- El tamaño de las obras sería: 36” x 24” 5.- Entregas a tiempos establecidos 6.- Puesta al día referente a las cuotas del Grupo

No queremos dejar pasar esta importante ocasión, sin referirnos a las enseñanzas del Prof. Wifredo García, quien entendía que la unión y participación de veteranos y principiantes unificaba el grupo, que siempre había que darle cabida a los que se iniciaban en este maravilloso mundo de la fotografía, que unos y otros, eran los beneficiados por la interacción de conocimientos, pero que pasados los años, debían buscar una interpretación personal, una forma particular de manifestar sus sentimientos y experiencias, transmitirlas, comunicarlas y exponer sus obras al público, quien la juzgará. Este es el resultado. Ustedes serán los que evaluarán el trabajo de cada uno de nosotros, esperamos que esté a la altura de estos 40 años.
