Patricia Reid Baquero no recuerda su vida sin el arte y la pintura.
Ya en las cartas que escribía a los 8 años, aparecen los collages al margen de la letra, hechos con papel crepé, fieltro, y cualquier otro material que encontrara a su alcance.
Pasaron los años, y Patricia continuó pintando y dibujando, a medida que se volcaba en su carrera de diseño de interiores. Tuvo diversas influencias. El hogar donde creció, donde se respiraba el arte, y donde se sentía una gran fuerza creativa, deja una huella indeleble, transcendental en su vida.
Entre planos de arquitectura, esculturas, obras de teatro y estudios de diseño de interiores y museografía, su exposición a todo tipo de creación artística germinó. El interés por la artesanía, por los grabados orientales, la escultura del Pacífico y por las artes decorativas, alimentaría su obra.
Otras influencias serían el amor por su país, la luz tropical y los azules de nuestros mares. Patricia es ferviente amante y estudiosa de la naturaleza, de las frutas, de los árboles, de las hierbas, conocimientos presentes en sus collages, pinturas e ilustraciones de libros y cuentos. Esta miríada la llevan a crear un mundo visible, palpable, cercano; pero, al mismo tiempo, revelador de una vida interior de ideas, añoranzas, alegrías, nostalgias y sueños.
Trópico Imaginario
Trópico Imaginario es pura exuberancia. Los colores y espíritu nos tocan al fondo de nuestra alma caribeña, y no hay forma de escapar. Desde lejos, la técnica mixta que caracteriza mucha de la obra refleja tanto su estilo como el tema. La rugosidad de los materiales que conviven con los colores acrílicos, lisos, brillantes, evocan el tema de una naturaleza que es a la vez cobijo y misterio.
El trazo es orgánico, convirtiendo con toda naturalidad un río en rama de árbol centenario o en estampida de caballos. La luna, el sol, las estrellas, centellean con intensidad propia y dorada sobre un paisaje onírico. En otras ocasiones, las estrellas se confunden con cocuyos, o tal vez, los cocuyos con estrellas, jugueteando con un pez que ha decidido tomar vuelo. La luna baja sobre unas sillas rojas para escuchar una conversación entre susurros. Es sueño de una noche de trópico del que difícilmente quisiéramos despertar.
Naturaleza misteriosa, pero no agresiva; al contrario, invita y acoge; y como prueba, las sillas que nacen como hermanas, siempre en familia, de las bondades del bosque. De ramas y flores, nacen ellas, de corte criollo, guano y palo de monte. Entre bosques color naranja y fucsia, y hojas que parecen esconder secretos, aparecen también pabellones y figuras en blanco y negro y en découpage, única muestra de vida humana en estos paraísos.
La piña, reina de las frutas, luce su diadema en todo su esplendor, de repente adornada por mariposas o símbolos de nobleza antiguos. Al centro de la exhibición, se erige la Palma Real, oriunda de esta tierra bendecida. A veces, solitaria en una penumbra azul; otras, en pleno monte, pero siempre erguida y orgullosa. Las pinceladas en estos casos son rápidos, fuertes, seguros, de un expresionismo innato, como imitando el vaivén de las pencas en un huracán.
En otra vertiente, su obra entra al interior, pero nunca es domesticada. Los bouquet son enormes, como queriendo salir del jarrón y apropiarse del espacio íntimo. Margaritas y flores salvajes recién cortadas, habitan en un salón, donde ramas se confunden y trepan las paredes, mientras que una sola mesa y sillas nos ubican en el espacio. Esta riqueza visual, y las perspectivas utilizadas en los paisajes imaginados, son el sello de la artista, visible también en su obra de interiorista. Detalles superpuestos, siempre pensados, pero con una naturalidad que denota claridad y libertad de pensamiento.
“Trópico Imaginario” apela a un mundo floreciente y vibrante. Transmite, a través de lienzos y papel, la esperanza y el optimismo.

Patricia Reid Baquero does not remember her life without art and painting.
Already in the letters he wrote at age 8, the collages appear outside the letter, made with crepe paper, felt, and any other material you find within your reach.
Years went by, and Patricia continued to paint and draw, as she turned to her interior design career. He had various influences. The home where he grew up, where art was breathed, and where he felt a great creative force, leaves an indelible mark, transcendental in his life.
Among architectural plans, sculptures, plays and studies of interior design and museology, his exposure to all types of artistic creation germinated. The interest in crafts, oriental engravings, sculpture of the Pacific and decorative arts, would feed his work.
Other influences would be the love for his country, the tropical light and the blues of our seas. Patricia is a fervent lover and student of nature, fruits, trees, herbs, knowledge present in her collages, paintings and illustrations of books and stories. This myriad lead her to create a visible, palpable, close world; but, at the same time, revealing of an inner life of ideas, yearnings, joys, nostalgia and dreams.
Imaginary Tropic Imaginary Tropic is pure exuberance. The colors and spirit touch us to the bottom of our Caribbean soul, and there is no way to escape. From a distance, the mixed technique that characterizes much of the work reflects both its style and theme. The roughness of the materials that coexist with the acrylic colors, smooth, bright, evoke the theme of a nature that is both shelter and mystery.
The line is organic, naturally turning a river into a centenary tree branch or horse stampede. The moon, the sun, the stars, sparkle with their own golden intensity on a dreamlike landscape. On other occasions, the stars are confused with cocuyos, or perhaps, cocuyos with stars, fiddling with a fish that has decided to take flight. The moon falls on red chairs to hear a conversation between whispers. It is a tropical night's dream that we would hardly want to wake up from.
Mysterious nature, but not aggressive; on the contrary, it invites and welcomes; and as proof, the chairs that are born as sisters, always in family, of the goodness of the forest. From branches and flowers, they are born, of Creole cut, guano and monte. Between orange and fuchsia forests, and leaves that seem to hide secrets, there are also pavilions and figures in black and white and in découpage, the only sample of human life in these paradises.
The pineapple, queen of fruits, sports her headband in all its splendor, suddenly adorned by butterflies or symbols of ancient nobility. At the center of the exhibition, stands the Royal Palm, native of this blessed land. Sometimes, lonely in a blue gloom; others, in the middle of the mountain, but always upright and proud. The brushstrokes in these cases are fast, strong, sure, of an innate expressionism, like imitating the sway of the pencas in a hurricane.
In another aspect, his work enters the interior, but it is never domesticated. The bouquet is huge, as if wanting to leave the vase and appropriate the intimate space. Freshly cut daisies and wild flowers inhabit a room, where branches get confused and climb the walls, while a single table and chairs place us in space. This visual richness, and the perspectives used in imagined landscapes, are the hallmark of the artist, also visible in her interior design work. Overlapping details, always thought, but with a naturalness that denotes clarity and freedom of thought.
"Imaginary Tropic" appeals to a flourishing and vibrant world. It conveys, through canvases and paper, hope and optimism.
