Artista Yuly Monción rechaza premio de la Trigésima Bienal de Artes Visuales

La artista plástica Yuly Monción Fermín rechazó de manera irrevocable y categórica el “premio igualitario” que recibiera en la pasada Trigésima Bienal de Artes Visuales, y aseguró que asume esta postura muy indignada, ya que el arte, la más alta manifestación del alma, no debe ser un canal donde circulen las olas del amiguismo, la confabulación y las más deleznables conductas humanas.
Monción Fermín, quien es una artista de una amplia y destacada trayectoria artística perteneciente a la generación de los ochenta, dijo que ya no está dispuesta a seguir soportando lo que ha sido una tradición de parte de los jurados de esta premiación, ya que siempre que ella muestra las mejores credenciales, y cuando es evidente que merece le otorguen el Gran Premio, “optan por darme un premio de consolación o una mención”.

En una carta enviada a los organizadores de la premiación, Monción les dice: “renuncio de manera irrevocable al “premio igualitario” que se me otorgara en la pasada Trigésima Bienal de Artes Visuales por mi obra “El rancho de Tula”, ya que considero que una vez más se comete una injusticia en mi contra y se violan las normas más elementales de respeto que una premiación de esa dimensión debiese poseer”.
Al ser consultada por su renuncia, y hablar en exclusiva para Acento, la artista afirmó que “es tiempo de decir basta. El arte dominicano se merece otro destino, una consideración más válida. No se trata de un asunto individual. Elevo la voz de protesta para que, de una vez por todas este tipo de situación se termine y se actúe desde las más altas instancias artísticas con un criterio de mayor respeto hacia los artistas”, dijo Monción.
Adujo que si alguien quiere observar cuál es la opinión sobre las premiaciones que este año ha otorgado el jurado de la Trigésima Bienal de Artes Visuales, que haga un sondeo entre la gente que se respeta (“no la respetable”) del mundo del arte y entre aquellos que asistieron, para que la opinión pública tenga una idea clara.
Yuly Monción, quien fue de las pocas participantes a quien el jurado de selección aceptó tres obras, ha exhibido sus obras en República Dominicana y en el extranjero (España, Puerto Rico, Estados Unidos), mereciendo sus obras un reconocimiento unánime de los críticos y de los coleccionistas más prestigiosos.
Al concedérsele “el premio igualitario”, Monción debía recibir uno de los nueve premios, el cual tiene una dotación de 300 mil pesos. “Por mi trayectoria y por mi trabajo yo ya no estoy para prestarme para confabulaciones o chanchullos. Además de que no ando mendigando premios o reconocimientos”, aseguró la artista.
El pintor Julio Valdez obtuvo el “Gran Premio” por su obra “Retrato Pandémico”, compuesta por dibujos de los rostros de personas que fallecieron a causa de la Covid-19. Hay que destacar que la obra de Monción “El rancho de Tula”, una de las premiadas, compitió con el Gran Premio”, según reveló la historiadora y crítica de arte Mirna Guerrero.
“Estoy de acuerdo que, a una competencia, de la naturaleza que sea, uno asiste a perder o ganar, pero que sea en buena lid, no a ser uno objeto de una estafa que está a la vista de todo el mundo”, dijo la artista, indignada.
Yuly Monción Fermín, quien es natural de Santiago Rodríguez, y quien tiene estudios de Publicidad en la Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD), entre otros premios, recibió Mención de honor la bienal del 1994, Tercer Premio de Dibujo en la XIX Bienal de Artes Visuales, Mención de honor en el XIX Concurso de Arte Eduardo León Jiménez, y Mención Especial, en el III Concurso Nacional de Pintura Hoteles Barceló, entre otros premios.
Entre sus exposiciones individuales realizadas en el país y el exterior, se cuentan: “En torno a la lluvia (1992, Voluntariado Casas Reales), Parpadeos (Voluntariado Casas Reales), Mar de Ojos (Quinta Dominicana), y Los gallos ya no cantan (Galería principal de Altos de Chavón y Publicitaria Pagés, 2007).

He argued that if anyone wants to see what the opinion is about the awards that the jury of the Thirtieth Biennial of Visual Arts has awarded this year, they should do a survey among the people who respect themselves (“not the respectable”) in the world of art and among those who attended, so that the public has a clear idea.
Yuly Monción, who was one of the few participants from whom the selection jury accepted three works, has exhibited her works in the Dominican Republic and abroad (Spain, Puerto Rico, the United States), earning her works unanimous recognition from critics and of the most prestigious collectors.
