Historiadora del arte y conservadora de bienes culturales, Esteves Amador cursó estudios en lenguas modernas, historia del arte y bellas artes en la Universidad de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Río Piedras y en la Universidad de Sevilla, en España, en donde obtuvo una maestría y un doctorado en conservación y restauración de pintura.

Se ha desempeñado como profesora de historia del arte y como directora de un museo universitario, desde el cual adelantó áreas como la conservación, el manejo, exhibición y acceso de colecciones en línea, las colaboraciones internacionales y residencias artísticas, abriendo el cerco a Latinoamérica y a la diáspora puertorriqueña. Allí también, desarrolló la primera aplicación software para tour virtual de un museo en la Isla.
Ha sido miembro fundador y coordinadora de la Sala de Exposición de Arte de la Fundación Ángel Ramos (SalaFAR), y es la creadora y directora del Proyecto de Documentación de Artistas Latinoamericanos, (PDAL). Como becaria del Artists Documentation Program (ADP) de la Menil Collection de Houston y del Whitney Museum of American Art de Nueva York por la Fundación Andrew W. Mellon y recipiente de una subvención de Voices in Contemporary Art (VoCA), ha sumado las primeras entrevistas en el idioma español a ambos programas.

We welcome Dr. Irene M. Esteves Amador, the new Assistant Director of Exhibitions and Collections at the Puerto Rico Museum of Art!
An art historian and curator of cultural assets, Esteves Amador studied modern languages, art history, and fine arts at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus, and at the University of Seville, Spain, where she earned a master's degree and a doctorate in painting conservation and restoration.
She has served as an art history professor and as director of a university museum, where she advanced areas such as conservation, management, exhibition, and online access to collections, international collaborations, and artist residencies, opening the door to Latin America and the Puerto Rican diaspora. There, she also developed the first software application for virtual museum tours on the island.
She was a founding member and coordinator of the Ángel Ramos Foundation Art Exhibition Hall (SalaFAR) and is the creator and director of the Latin American Artists Documentation Project (PDAL). As a fellow in the Artists Documentation Program (ADP) at the Menil Collection in Houston and the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, hosted by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, and a recipient of a Voices in Contemporary Art (VoCA) grant, she has added the first Spanish-language interviews to both programs.
