La muestra, que además formará parte del evento internacional BienalSur, estará abierta al público desde el 16 de diciembre hasta finales de mayo de 2024.
El Tiempo de todavía. Apuntes desde las artes visuales en el Caribe.1984-2003, toma su título de las referencias con relación a la percepción y el transcurrir del tiempo en la región del Caribe insular que describe el autor dominicano Marcio Veloz Maggiolo en su novela La mosca soldado, (Madrid, Siruela, 2004).

La exposición, que cuenta con un equipo curatorial compuesto por Sara Hermann Morera, Laura Bisonó Smith y Joel Butler Fernández, busca iluminar los temas, las técnicas y las narrativas sociopolíticas en evolución que surgieron durante el periodo que va entre la primera Bienal de La Habana, en 1984, hasta la quinta Bienal del Caribe, en Santo Domingo, en 2003.
Esta nueva muestra propone un acercamiento a los artistas y sus obras, lo que permite explorar las diversas influencias, inspiraciones y diálogos interculturales que dieron forma al arte de la región en ese tiempo y que sirvieron de preámbulo para la producción de inicios del siglo XXI. Está compuesta por cuatro ámbitos, integrada por fotografías, pinturas, esculturas, instalaciones, grabados y videos.
Además, se han seleccionado 37 láminas del proyecto colaborativo La Huella Múltiple, evento realizado de 1996 al 2010, que reunió a 100 artistas cubanos de diversas generaciones y manifestaciones relacionadas con las artes plásticas y que forma parte integral de la Colección Eduardo León Jimenes de Artes Visuales. Asimismo, cabe destacar que esta será la primera ocasión en la que se presenta al público.
Los visitantes podrán interactuar con 106 obras que abordan la producción de 85 artistas de 13 países del Caribe de habla hispana, inglesa, francesa y holandesa, desde una perspectiva que incluye género, raza, identidades, cuerpos, arraigo, viajes, espiritualidad, medioambiente y memoria, brindando un marco contextual que otorga distintos significados a la trayectoria de la producción artística desde el Caribe, hoy.
También, por primera vez una exposición dominicana será parte del evento internacional BienalSur, que, desde Buenos Aires, Argentina, se extiende a través de 18.370 kilómetros, conectando simultáneamente espacios de arte, creadores, públicos y comunidades de todos los continentes.
El Tiempo de todavía. Apuntes desde las artes visuales en el Caribe.1984-2003 se alojará en la Sala de exposiciones temporales del Centro León, estará abierta al público desde el 16 de diciembre, de martes a domingo de 10:00 a. m. a 7:00 p. m. La exposición cuenta con los auspicios de la Fundación Eduardo León Jimenes, Cervecería Nacional Dominicana y Excel.
Sobre BienalSur
Es una extensa propuesta para el arte, la cultura y el pensamiento contemporáneo, Bienal Internacional de Arte Contemporáneo del Sur, generada por la Universidad Nacional de Tres de Febrero, (UNTREF), universidad pública de Argentina. Una bienal distinta: descentralizada, democrática, horizontal y humanista que abarca las temáticas del mundo actual.
La primera edición se llevó a cabo en el año 2017 con la participación de más de 400 artistas en alrededor de 80 sedes en 34 ciudades de 16 países. En 2019 el mapa se expandió a 112 sedes de 47 ciudades en 21 países y en el 2021, a pesar de la pandemia, se desarrolló en 120 sedes de 48 ciudades en 24 países de América, Asia y Europa. En las tres primeras ediciones participaron más de 1800 artistas de todo el mundo. En 2023 la cuarta edición de BienalSur se desarrolla en más de 70 ciudades de 28 países en los 5 continentes.
Sobre La Huella Múltiple
Es un proyecto colaborativo, en sus inicios de carácter trienal, desarrollado desde 1996 por los artistas Sandra Ramos, Belkis Ayón, Abel Barroso e Ibrahim Miranda con la colaboración de la Fundación Ludwig, el Consejo Nacional de las Artes Plásticas (CNAP), la Unión de Escritores y Artistas de Cuba (UNEAC), y el Centro de Desarrollo de las Artes Visuales de La Habana, Cuba. Reunió obras gráficas producidas por artistas cubanos consagrados y emergentes. A través de este proyecto colaborativo, los artistas buscaron ampliar el concepto de impresión, incorporando medios que incluyen fotografía, performance, instalaciones y nuevas tecnologías. Estos procesos creativos dieron como resultado 300 ejemplares de un catálogo que contiene una impresión original de cada participante.

The time of yet. Notes from the visual arts in the Caribbean. 1984-2003, takes its title from the references in relation to the perception and passage of time in the insular Caribbean region described by the Dominican author Marcio Veloz Maggiolo in his novel The soldier fly, (Madrid, Siruela, 2004).
The exhibition, which features a curatorial team composed of Sara Hermann Morera, Laura Bisonó Smith and Joel Butler Fernández, seeks to illuminate the themes, techniques and evolving sociopolitical narratives that emerged during the period between the first Havana Biennial , in 1984, until the fifth Caribbean Biennial, in Santo Domingo, in 2003.
This new exhibition proposes an approach to the artists and their works, which allows us to explore the various influences, inspirations and intercultural dialogues that shaped the art of the region at that time and that served as a preamble for the production of the early 21st century. It is made up of four areas, made up of photographs, paintings, sculptures, installations, engravings and videos.
In addition, 37 prints have been selected from the collaborative project La Huella Múltiple, an event held from 1996 to 2010, which brought together 100 Cuban artists from various generations and manifestations related to the plastic arts and which is an integral part of the Eduardo León Jimenes Collection of Arts. Notes from the visual arts in the Caribbean. 1984-2003 will be housed in the Temporary Exhibition Hall of the León Center, it will be open to the public from December 16, from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. m. to 7:00 p.m. m. About Multiple Footprint
It is a collaborative project, initially triennial in nature, developed since 1996 by the artists Sandra Ramos, Belkis Ayón, Abel Barroso and Ibrahim Miranda with the collaboration of the Ludwig Foundation, the National Council of Plastic Arts (CNAP), the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC), and the Center for the Development of the Visual Arts of Havana, Cuba. It brought together graphic works produced by established and emerging Cuban artists. Through this collaborative project, the artists sought to expand the concept of print, incorporating media including photography, performance, installations and new technologies.
