El artista visual Rodolfo Abularach falleció el domingo 30 de agosto, a sus 87 años, debido a problemas de salud.

El arte guatemalteco culmina agosto de luto, porque el dibujante, pintor, escultor y grabador, Rodolfo Abularach falleció a los 87 años debido a complicaciones en su salud. El maestro forma parte de una generación de artistas nacionales como Luis Díaz, Ramón Banús y Margarita Azurdia, entre otros, que dieron vida a las mejores obras visuales del país.
De acuerdo con Ingrid Klussmann, artista allegada a Abularach y quien lo conocía desde los 7 años, el maestro falleció a las 8 horas del domingo 30 de agosto, debido a complicaciones en su salud. “Se había recuperado de forma exitosa del nuevo coronavirus. Sin embargo, en esta semana tuvo problemas en sus pulmones, por lo que tuvo que ser hospitalizado y falleció este domingo. Es una pérdida muy grande para el arte de Guatemala porque era de los artistas más completos que existen. No solo sabía de pintura y escultura, sino que daba mucho placer hablar de música con él”, declaró.
Su trayectoria
Rodolfo Abularach nació en 1933 y desde pequeño mostró gran afinidad por el arte. Esa habilidad se convirtió en una convicción antes de llegar a la mayoría de edad. Durante sus estudios en el colegio, los profesores solían llamarle la atención ya que se mantenía dibujando durante clases. Aunque las lecciones de matemática e historia eran importantes, para el artista los trazos en sus cuadernos eran más relevantes.
Estudió en la Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas de Guatemala mientras que realizaba investigaciones sobre el arte folclórico para la Dirección de Bellas Artes. A sus inicios, comenzó como dibujante y pintor de escenas de corridas de toros que nacen de una imaginación barroca.
Abularach partió en 1959 con una beca de estudios del gobierno de Guatemala a Nueva York, ciudad en la que decidió radicarse y desde donde realizó lo más relevante de su producción plástica. Estudió en Arts Students League y Graphic Art Center.
Sus obras
Las obras de Abularach atravesaron una profunda transformación cuando intentó juntar los elementos del arte abstracto y del surrealismo y experimentó con texturas, como por ejemplo en dibujos sombreados hechos en lapicero y tinta, tales como “Fugitive from a Maya Lintel”. Sus imágenes aumentadas del ojo humano le dieron fama internacional.

According to Ingrid Klussmann, an artist close to Abularach and who had known him since the age of 7, the teacher passed away at 8 am on Sunday, August 30, due to complications in his health. “He had successfully recovered from the new coronavirus. However, this week he had problems with his lungs, for which he had to be hospitalized and died this Sunday. It is a very great loss for the art of Guatemala because it was one of the most complete artists that exist. Not only did he know about painting and sculpture, but it was a great pleasure to talk about music with him ”, he declared.
His trajectory
Rodolfo Abularach was born in 1933 and from a young age showed a great affinity for art. That ability became a conviction before he came of age. During his studies at school, the teachers used to draw his attention as he kept drawing during classes. Although the math and history lessons were important, for the artist the lines in his notebooks were more relevant.
He studied at the National School of Plastic Arts of Guatemala while doing research on folk art for the Directorate of Fine Arts. At the beginning, he began as a draftsman and painter of bullfighting scenes that are born from a baroque imagination.
Abularach left in 1959 with a scholarship from the Guatemalan government to New York, the city in which he decided to settle and from where he made the most relevant of his plastic production. He studied at Arts Students League and Graphic Art Center.
His work
Abularach's works underwent a profound transformation when he tried to bring together the elements of abstract art and surrealism and experimented with textures, such as shadow drawings made in pen and ink, such as "Fugitive from a Maya Lintel." His augmented images of the human eye brought him international fame.
