En 1982, Jeannette Miller realiza y edita la “Guía de la Galería de Arte Moderno”, primer registro catalogado de la colección del hoy Museo de Arte Moderno y en 1984 es responsable de la segunda edición del catálogo “Galería de Bellas Artes”, publicado por Aida Cartagena Portalatín en 1964. Dos trabajos de investigación que resultan esenciales para la historia de la museología, la conservación, la difusión y la valoración del patrimonio artístico y cultural dominicano.

La noche del pasado viernes 25 de agosto, en la Sala Carlos Piantini del Teatro Nacional Eduardo Brito, el presidente de la República, Luis Abinader, y la ministra de Cultura, Milagros Germán, inauguraron la XXV edición de la Feria Internacional del Libro de Santo Domingo. De retorno a la Plaza de la Cultura Juan Pablo Duarte, el magno evento cultural está dedicado a la escritora e historiadora del arte Jeannette Miller (1944). Se trata de un merecido y puntual reconocimiento a la intelectual dominicana más completa de la actualidad.
Nacida en la ciudad de Santo Domingo el 2 de agosto de 1944, Jeannette Miller es poeta, narradora, ensayista, analista, curadora e historiadora del arte, con resultados y aportaciones infalibles en cada una de estas facetas. Logros y aportes trascendentales y por los cuales ha recibido grandes reconocimientos en su propio país como el Premio Nacional Feria del Libro Eduardo León Jimenes (2007) por su obra “Importancia del contexto histórico en el desarrollo del arte dominicano” y el Premio Nacional de Literatura de la Fundación Corripio (2011) por el conjunto de su obra.
Auténtica chef de file de la “Generación del 60” en Santo Domingo, Jeannette Miller emerge como poeta y actriz adolescente. Entre 1962 y 1967, acciona en el movimiento “Arte y Liberación”; el “Frente Cultural” y el grupo “El Puño”, junto a artistas visuales, escritores y teatristas vanguardistas como Silvano Lora (1931-2003); José Ramírez Conde (1940-1987); Asdrúbal Domínguez (1936-1987); Jacques Viau Renaud (1941-1965); René del Risco Bermúdez (1937-1972); Miguel Alfonseca (1942-1994); Ramón Oviedo (1924-2015); Iván Tovar (1942-2020); Ada Balcácer (1930); José Cestero (1937); Iván García (1938) y Efraim Castillo (1940).
Entre 1965 y 1970, permanece en Madrid, España, donde realiza el X Curso Iberoamericano para Profesores de Lengua Española en el Instituto de Cultura Hispánica y el Curso de Desarrollo Comunitario en el Instituto León XIII (1966-1967). Tras su regreso al país, obtiene su Licenciatura en Letras en la Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo, donde luego ejerce la docencia al igual que en la Universidad Central del Este, la Escuela Nacional de Bellas Arte y el Seminario Santo Tomás de Aquino.
En 1972, Jeannette Miller asume el rol protagónico como curadora de la muestra “Expo Nueva Imagen: doce artistas de vanguardia/Una década 1962-1972”, organizada con motivo del décimo aniversario de la hoy Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra en Santiago de los Caballeros. Antonio Prats Ventós, Ada Balcácer, Fernando Peña Defilló, Félix Gontier, Soucy de Pellerano, Daniel Henríquez, Domingo Liz, Rosa Idalia García, Leopoldo Pérez, Danilo de los Santos, Adolfo Piantini y Geo Ripley, fueron los convocados con el objetivo curatorial de exponer los máximos niveles y resultados de conceptualización y recursividad expresiva que habían registrado las artes plásticas y visuales dominicanas durante la década abordada.
Su trance teorético y operativo con el “Grupo Proyecta”, fundado en 1968 por Fernando Peña Defilló, Ada Balcácer, Domingo Liz, Ramón Oviedo, Gaspar Mario Cruz, Leopoldo Pérez, Félix Gontier y Thimo Pimentel, apostando por una mayor socialización y difusión del producto artístico, más los significativos resultados de la “Expo Nueva Imagen”, proyectan a Jeannette Miller como artífice del primer y más riguroso proyecto curatorial de una muestra artística contemporánea en el contexto local y como la madrina más legítima, firme y productiva de las prácticas artísticas disruptivas en Santo Domingo.
Y he aquí solo algunas cifras por si alguien quisiera objetar. En 1979, aparecen los libros “Historia de la Pintura Dominicana”, de Jeannette Miller y “La Pintura en la Sociedad Dominicana”, de Danilo de los Santos. Estos son los dos primeros y mayores enfoques progresivos sobre el desarrollo histórico de las artes plásticas y visuales dominicanas. Hasta su aparición, solo se contaba en el país con las obras de información general “El Arte de nuestro Tiempo” (1957), del escritor, periodista y crítico de arte Manuel Valldeperes; “Arte Dominicano” (1969), del artista Darío Suro y “Pintura y Escultura en Santo Domingo” (1972), del historiador Emilio Rodríguez Demorizi.
En 1981, Jeannette Miller, junto a Marianne de Tolentino (1930); Martín López (1955); Pedro Mir (1913-2000); Silvano Lora (1931-2003); Danilo de los Santos (1943-2018) y el eminente y respetado crítico francés Raoul-Jean Moulin (1934-2014), forman la Sección dominicana de la Asociación Internacional de Críticos de Arte (AICA), quienes eligen al Poeta Nacional Pedro Mir como su primer presidente.
Y faltaría bastante aún. Jeannette Miller ha publicado más de treinta obras de investigación sobre las artes plásticas y visuales dominicanas. Entre estos: “Paul Guidicelli: Sobreviviente de una época oscura” (1983); “Arte dominicano: 1844-2000. Pintura, dibujo, gráfica y mural” (2001); “Arte dominicano: 1844-2000. Escultura, instalaciones, medios no tradicionales y arte vitral” (2002); “La mujer en el arte dominicano” (2005) e “Historia de la Fotografía Dominicana” (2 tomos, 2010) …

On the night of last Friday, August 25, in the Carlos Piantini Hall of the Eduardo Brito National Theater, the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, and the Minister of Culture, Milagros Germán, inaugurated the XXV edition of the International Book Fair of Santo Sunday. Born in the city of Santo Domingo on August 2, 1944, Jeannette Miller is a poet, storyteller, essayist, analyst, curator, and art historian, with infallible results and contributions in each of these facets. Between 1965 and 1970, she stayed in Madrid, Spain, where she attended the X Ibero-American Course for Teachers of Spanish Language at the Institute of Hispanic Culture and the Community Development Course at the León XIII Institute (1966-1967). After her return to the country, she obtained her Licentiate in Literature at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo, where she later taught as well as at the Universidad Central del Este, the National School of Fine Arts and the Santo Tomás de Not here.
In 1972, Jeannette Miller assumed the leading role as curator of the exhibition "Expo Nueva Imagen: twelve avant-garde artists/A decade 1962-1972", organized on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of what is now the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra in Santiago de los Gentlemen. Antonio Prats Ventós, Ada Balcácer, Fernando Peña Defilló, Félix Gontier, Soucy de Pellerano, Daniel Henríquez, Domingo Liz, Rosa Idalia García, Leopoldo Pérez, Danilo de los Santos, Adolfo Piantini and Geo Ripley, were invited with the curatorial objective of expose the highest levels and results of conceptualization and expressive recursion that the Dominican plastic and visual arts had registered during the decade addressed.
