La galería Lyle O. Reitzel Arte Contemporáneo, presenta una espectacular exposición individual a cargo del artista dominicano Gustavo Peña titulada “Aguas Superficiales”, a inaugurarse el próximo jueves 16 de Marzo a las 7:30 PM en en su sede de la Torre Piantini. Este evento sucederá en el marco del Design Week RD, organizada por Jorge Brown Cott.

En esta propuesta el artista Gustavo Peña explora la complejidad de las emociones y experiencias humanas. La mezcla única de realismo y expresionismo abstracto de Peña se adentra en las profundidades de la psique humana, explorando temas de identidad, memoria y transformación.
La colección de pinturas se centra en el tema del agua y su significado metafórico en nuestras vidas. El agua representa la naturaleza siempre cambiante e impredecible de la experiencia humana, y Peña la captura a través de su expresivo uso del color y su sentido del humor juguetón.
Cada pieza de la colección invita a la introspección y la contemplación, desde escenas pacíficas de agua quieta hasta turbulentas representaciones de olas rompientes. El uso del espacio negativo y el color crea una sensación de apertura y libertad, animando a los espectadores a considerar las limitaciones que pueden estar imponiéndose a sí mismos. Otro aspecto clave es el uso de textura y pinceladas dinámicas que capturan la energía y el movimiento del agua. A menudo emplea una técnica llamada in pasto, que implica aplicar capas gruesas de pintura sobre el lienzo. Esto le da a las pinturas una cualidad táctil y crea una sensación de profundidad y dimensionalidad en general, en los escenarios de ensueño.
El título "Aguas Superficiales" está abierto a interpretación, pero alude a la idea de que a menudo nos quedamos dentro de nuestras zonas de confort y no exploramos las profundidades de nuestras propias emociones y experiencias. En general, "Aguas Superficiales" es una exploración convincente de las emociones humanas y las complejidades de la experiencia humana, invitando a los espectadores a reflexionar sobre sus propios paisajes emocionales.
Gustavo Peña (Santo Domingo, 1979) Estudió Bellas Artes, Diseño Gráfico, Ilustración y Fotografía en la Escuela de Diseño Altos de Chavón (ASS) La Romana, República Dominicana. Graduado de la Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas (ENAP) de México. Sus obras forman parte de Colecciones Permanentes como Fundación Cortés de Puerto Rico y colecciones privadas en Santo Domingo, Puerto Rico, Panamá, Miami, Nueva York, Suiza, Italia y China. Actualmente trabaja y vive en Santo Domingo. La exposición estará abierta al público hasta el 30 de abril del año 2023.

The Lyle O. In this proposal, the artist Gustavo Peña explores the complexity of human emotions and experiences. Peña's unique blend of realism and abstract expressionism delves into the depths of the human psyche, exploring themes of identity, memory, and transformation.
The collection of paintings focuses on the theme of water and its metaphorical meaning in our lives. Water represents the ever-changing and unpredictable nature of the human experience, and Peña captures it through his expressive use of color and playful sense of humor.
Each piece in the collection invites introspection and contemplation, from peaceful scenes of still water to turbulent depictions of crashing waves. The use of negative space and color creates a sense of openness and freedom, encouraging viewers to consider the limitations they may be placing on themselves. Another key aspect is the use of texture and dynamic brushstrokes that capture the energy and movement of the water. He often employs a technique called in pasto, which involves applying thick layers of paint to the canvas. This gives the paintings a tactile quality and creates an overall sense of depth and dimensionality in the dreamlike settings.
The title "Surface Water" is open to interpretation, but alludes to the idea that we often stay within our comfort zones and fail to explore the depths of our own emotions and experiences. Overall, "Shallow Water" is a compelling exploration of human emotions and the complexities of the human experience, inviting viewers to reflect on their own emotional landscapes.
Gustavo Peña (Santo Domingo, 1979) He studied Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Illustration and Photography at the Altos de Chavón School of Design (ASS) in La Romana, Dominican Republic. He graduated from the National School of Plastic Arts (ENAP) of Mexico. His works are part of Permanent Collections such as Fundación Cortés de Puerto Rico and private collections in Santo Domingo, Puerto Rico, Panama, Miami, New York, Switzerland, Italy and China. He currently works and lives in Santo Domingo.
The exhibition will be open to the public until April 30, 2023.
