Novenario marca el modo en que los artistas imaginan la transformación del estado de dolor y pérdida a un estado de potencialidad. La exhibición busca poner de relieve el trabajo del duelo pintado, trazado, fotografiado, tejido, esculpido, danzado, cantado y escrito partiendo de grandes eventos devastadores de los siglos 20 y 21.

La exhibición Novenario, fruto de la investigación
de la curadora invitada Lydia Platón Lázaro, PhD,
llegó a su conclusión el pasado 1ro de mayo.

Novenario marca el modo en que los artistas
imaginan la transformación del estado de dolor
y pérdida a un estado de potencialidad; donde la
rabia, el dolor y la belleza insisten en coexistir.
Esta exhibición busca poner de relieve el trabajo
del duelo pintado, trazado, fotografiado, tejido,
esculpido, danzado, cantado y escrito partiendo
de grandes eventos devastadores de los siglos 20
y 21. Estos hechos se han acumulado en el archivo
artístico, sin necesariamente haber hecho una
entrada en la historia del arte local. Como
fragmentos de quizás los hechos más
transformadores de nuestras breves vidas.
Las obras seleccionadas conmemoran novenarios
imaginarios para nombrar el trabajo del duelo. Sin
embargo, el duelo aquí no es un recuento
historiográfico de la tragedia, sino que propone
un sentimiento compartido que quiere ser mediado
por el arte y el recuerdo de sus espectadores de hoy.
El catálogo digital bilingüe de Novenario cuenta con
ensayos de Lydia Platón Lázaro, PhD; Humberto
Figueroa Torres; Vicky García Cingolani, PhD; Patria
C. López de Victoria; y Juan Otero Garabis.
Novenario expone la rica relación que abunda en
el Caribe con el ritual, la solidaridad comunitaria y
los retos de la auto-representación relacionados a
las historias particulares de la región, incluyendo
circunstancias traumáticas que incluyen: el
colonialismo, la esclavitud, el racismo, el desastre
ecológico, la violencia, los efectos directos
causados por la devastación de tormentas y
huracanes y el COVID-19.

The exhibition seeks to highlight the work of mourning painted, traced, photographed, woven, sculpted, danced, sung and written from great devastating events of the 20th and 21st centuries.

hurricanes and COVID-19.
