Ministerio de Cultura cede a la Fundación E. León Jimenes edificación que alojará extensión del Centro León en SD.
El Ministerio de Cultura y la Fundación Eduardo León Jimenes firmaron un convenio de préstamo de la edificación ubicada en la calle Las Damas, esquina calle El Conde, en la Ciudad Colonial, con la finalidad de que sea utilizada por el Centro León y su emisora Raíces para desarrollar programas culturales y educativos.
El acuerdo fue firmado por la ministra de Cultura, Carmen Heredia de Guerrero, y la presidenta de la Fundación Eduardo León Jimenes, María Amalia León. Según informaciones ofrecidas por la propia fundación, los programas que se desarrollarán en el referido espacio contribuirán a la valoración del arte y la cultura dominicana, mediante la realización de actividades en consonancia con sus objetivos institucionales y apegados a sus ejes temáticos.
Este convenio también compromete a la fundación a realizar trabajos de remozamiento y restauración, bajo la supervisión de la Dirección de Patrimonio Monumental, a fin de acondicionar este recinto para la realización de actividades culturales.
La ministra Carmen Heredia expresó que el acuerdo se enmarca dentro de los objetivos del Ministerio de Cultura de garantizar el apoyo y la promoción de la cultura, en su más amplio sentido, y que, con su firma, la institución se enorgullece de cumplir con su cometido, una vez más, y, en esta ocasión, como parte de los planes de puesta en valor que viene ejecutando el Estado dominicano en la Ciudad Colonial de Santo Domingo. La funcionaria agregó que este préstamo se realiza con la premisa y convicción de que dicha fundación va a establecer en el referido inmueble una extensión de su internacionalmente reconocido Centro Cultural Eduardo León Jimenes (Centro León), para llevar a cabo actividades de educación, promoción y difusión de la cultura.
“Estamos muy satisfechos de la firma de este acuerdo, pues representa un paso más en el fortalecimiento de las relaciones entre ambas instituciones, a la vez que resulta, por motivos obvios, en beneficio de toda la sociedad”, destacó Heredia.
A su vez, María Amalia León, presidenta de la Fundación Eduardo León Jimenes, indicó que para su familia y sus instituciones este convenio representa un renovado compromiso para seguir trabajando por una mejor nación, mediante el desarrollo de programas culturales y educativos que contribuyan a la valoración del arte y la cultura dominicana.

The Ministry of Culture and the Eduardo León Jimenes Foundation signed a loan agreement for the building located on Las Damas street, El Conde street corner, in the Colonial City, in order for it to be used by the León Center and its radio station Raíces to develop cultural and educational programs.
The agreement was signed by the Minister of Culture, Carmen Heredia de Guerrero, and the president of the Eduardo León Jimenes Foundation, María Amalia León.
According to information provided by the foundation itself, the programs that will be developed in the aforementioned space will contribute to the appreciation of Dominican art and culture, by carrying out activities in line with its institutional objectives and attached to its thematic axes.
This agreement also commits the foundation to carry out renovation and restoration works, under the supervision of the Directorate of Monumental Heritage, in order to prepare this site for cultural activities.
Minister Carmen Heredia expressed that the agreement is part of the objectives of the Ministry of Culture of guaranteeing the support and promotion of culture, in its broadest sense, and that, with its signature, the institution is proud to comply with its Committed, once again, and, this time, as part of the enhancement plans that the Dominican State has been executing in the Colonial City of Santo Domingo.
The official added that this loan is made with the premise and conviction that said foundation will establish in the aforementioned property an extension of its internationally recognized Eduardo León Jimenes Cultural Center (León Center), to carry out education, promotion and diffusion of culture.
"We are very satisfied with the signing of this agreement, as it represents another step in the strengthening of relations between both institutions, at the same time that it is, for obvious reasons, to the benefit of the whole of society", Heredia highlighted.
In turn, María Amalia León, president of the Eduardo León Jimenes Foundation, indicated that for her family and her institutions this agreement represents a renewed commitment to continue working for a better nation, through the development of cultural and educational programs that contribute to the appreciation of Dominican art and culture.
The colonial building, which served as the residence of the conqueror Hernán Cortés, was the headquarters of the French Embassy in the Dominican Republic.
