Santo Domingo, RD. / El Ministerio de Cultura dio a conocer el listado de las obras seleccionadas para ser exhibidas en la 29.a Bienal Nacional de Artes Visuales, durante una rueda de prensa realizada en el Museo de Arte Moderno (MAM).
Fueron elegidas un total de 286 de entre las 626 obras inscritas, pertenecientes a las categorías de Pintura (117), Escultura (16), Dibujo (24), Fotografía (47), Obras Gráficas (12), Cerámica (4), Instalación (44), Acción Plástica (1) y Vídeo (21). La actividad estuvo presidida por la ministra de Cultura, Carmen Heredia, y contó asimismo con la presencia del viceministro de Patrimonio Cultural, Gamal Michelén, y del director del Museo de Arte Moderno (MAM), Federico Fondeur.
La titular de Cultura expresó su agradecimiento a cada uno de los artistas participantes, al tiempo que aseguró que desde el inicio de su gestión ha estado trabajando por el retorno de la Bienal “y hoy confirmó que este sueño pronto se convertirá en realidad para el disfrute del pueblo dominicano”, manifestó la funcionaria. “Después de una larga espera, por fin comenzamos a ver luz al final del túnel. La Bienal va, y agradecemos la confianza y paciencia de todos los artistas participantes”, añadió. Por su parte, el viceministro Michelén indicó que, desde que asumieron el cargo el pasado mes de agosto, el ministerio ha estado laborando sin descanso para culminar la realización de la Bienal de forma idónea. “Tendremos unos meses para contemplar y disfrutar de estas obras de disciplinas diversas, recibiendolas como un generoso préstamo para la mirada”, concluyó.
Los dominicanos Amable Sterling y Plinio Chahín, así como la puertorriqueña Irene Esteves, integran el jurado seleccionador, quienes tuvieron a su cargo la elección de las obras que formarán la exposición de la Bienal.
El jurado seleccionador explicó que las obras visuales escogidas son las más representativas de aquellas inicialmente inscritas. “Esto así, por la rica variedad temática y estilística, en procura de lograr una autonomía estética en diversos espacios históricos, geográficos y culturales que nos identifican en el marco de la mejor tradición del arte universal”.

Santo Domingo, RD. / The Ministry of Culture released the list of works selected to be exhibited at the 29th National Visual Arts Biennial, during a press conference held at the Museum of Modern Art (MAM).
A total of 286 were chosen from among the 626 registered works, belonging to the categories of Painting (117), Sculpture (16), Drawing (24), Photography (47), Graphic Works (12), Ceramics (4), Installation (44), Plastic Action (1) and Video (21).
The activity was chaired by the Minister of Culture, Carmen Heredia, and was also attended by the Vice Minister of Cultural Heritage, Gamal Michelén, and the director of the Museum of Modern Art (MAM), Federico Fondeur.
The head of Culture expressed her gratitude to each of the participating artists, while ensuring that since the beginning of her tenure she has been working for the return of the Biennial "and today she confirmed that this dream will soon become a reality for the enjoyment of the Dominican people, ”said the official. “After a long wait, we finally began to see light at the end of the tunnel. The Biennial is going, and we appreciate the trust and patience of all the participating artists, ”she added.
For his part, Vice Minister Michelén indicated that, since they took office last August, the ministry has been working tirelessly to complete the Biennial in an ideal manner. "We will have a few months to contemplate and enjoy these works of various disciplines, receiving them as a generous loan for the gaze," he concluded.
The Dominicans Amable Sterling and Plinio Chahín, as well as the Puerto Rican Irene Esteves, make up the selection jury, who were in charge of choosing the works that will make up the Biennial exhibition.
The selection jury explained that the visual works chosen are the most representative of those initially registered. "This is so, due to the rich thematic and stylistic variety, in an attempt to achieve aesthetic autonomy in various historical, geographical and cultural spaces that identify us within the framework of the best tradition of universal art."
The 29th National Visual Arts Biennial is dedicated to Orlando Menicucci and the artist José García Cordero will be the special guest.
