La Zona Colonial o Ciudad Colonial de Santo Domingo, ha sido declarada en 1990 por la UNESCO, como Patrimonio de la Humanidad, y es también llamada “Ciudad Intramuros”, por las murallas que protegían en la época colonial toda la riqueza de la Hispaniola. Fue la primera ciudad edificada por europeos en América, siendo fundada el 5 de agosto de 1498 por Bartolomé Colón, primer alcalde de la ciudad, este escenario formado por los diferentes monumentos integrados al tejido urbano actual, son parte del conglomerado que sirve conjuntamente con las varias ofertas culturales existentes, como la propuesta de “Turismo Cultural” de este destino turístico.
La importancia del “Turismo Cultural”, dentro del Turismo, es que este no es un segmento excluyente de los demás, sino que es complementario, ya que un turista de playa, montaña o golf, también realizan visitas culturales en que cada destino que este visite, siendo una fuente importante del desarrollo económico, y también es fundamentalmente una gestión para conservar y preservar el patrimonio tangible e intangible de nuestro país.
Las tendencias del consumo cultural, tanto de la sociedad posmoderna, como la de los turistas que nos visitan, se convierte en un atractivo, cuando dicha propuesta cultural posee un contenido participativo, creando así experiencias donde la barrera del idioma no sea una debilidad, siendo así los museos de arte orientados con carácter didáctico y actualizados con las nuevas tecnología, que es una de las mejores oportunidades para brindar, tanto a los operadores generalistas, como a los productores especializados una propuesta atractiva para los varios “tipos de turistas culturales”.
Los museos de arte, no solo son espacios dedicados a la exhibición, promoción, investigación, y conservación de las artes visuales, sino “son reservas de ideas” al servicio de la sociedad y de su desarrollo.
LA CREACIÓN DEL MUSEO DE ARTE CONTEMPORÁNEO DE LA ZONA COLONIAL ( MACZC )
La “Ciudad Intramuros”,cuenta actualmente con una visita anual promedio de 700,000 turistas extranjeros de diferentes nacionalidades, y como una iniciativa de adicionar una propuesta cultural con contenido, la FUNDACIÓN ARTEDOM ha venido realizando, desde hace varios años, estudios e investigaciones, tanto de la historia del arte moderno dominicano, como de manera particular de la biografía de varios artistas plásticos dominicanos; y contando con este material, en el año 2019 inicia el emprendimiento de la creación de un conjunto de museos privados, para integrarlos con la propuesta que actualmente existe de arte visual en la Ciudad Colonial de Santo Domingo, donde motivará la visita del circuito de localidades para poder vivir la experiencia completa e integrada.
MUSEO DE ARTE CONTEMPORÁNEO DE LA ZONA COLONIAL (MACZC) -Santo Domingo, RD-, Es como ha sido nombrado el proyecto, concebido para servir como un recurso didáctico, espacios de cultura y de aprendizaje, contarán con salas audiovisuales donde se presentarán cortometrajes especializados y museografía con disponibilidad en los idiomas español, inglés, francés, ruso y alemán, formado el plan maestro del mismo por tres localidades: PRIMERA ETAPA:
LOCALIDAD 1 –(MACZC) / MUSEO JOSÉ CESTERO-: donde se exhibirá la obra de JOSÉ CESTERO, Premio Nacional de las Artes Visuales 2015 y cronista de la ciudad de Santo Domingo, y contará con una museografía biográfica de su vida y obra, haciendo homenaje así de uno de los más importantes maestros de la plástica dominicana. (Programado para inaugurar en marzo-abril 2020, con ubicación en la Calle Arzobispo Portes 128, Ciudad Colonial, Santo Domingo, RD.)
SEGUNDA ETAPA:
LOCALIDAD 2 –(MACZC) / MUSEO DE LA HISTORIA DEL ARTE CONTEMPORÁNEO DOMINICANO-: donde se exhibirán obras de diferentes artistas, y contará con una museografía explicando el origen del arte contemporáneo dominicano, desde la participación de los artistas españoles inmigrantes, fruto del exilio republicano español, la creación de la Escuela de Bellas Artes en Santo Domingo y su desarrollo con las diferentes promociones de artistas egresados de la misma, así como también otros que se formaron y destacaron desde ese periodo. (En planificación).
LOCALIDAD 3: -(MACZC) / CINCO DECADAS DEL ARTE CONTEMPORÁNEO DOMINICANO 1950-2000- donde se exhibirán obras de diferentes artistas, y se contará con una museografía explicando la participación de los artistas dominicanos que más se destacaron en las décadas de los años 50, 60, 70, 80. 90. (En planificación).
Finalmente, podemos destacar, que, al incorporar este valor agregado a la oferta museográfica existente, enriquecerá la propuesta de contenido cultural del país, contribuyendo al desarrollo de la sociedad dominicana y haciendo destacar el más importante de nuestros destinos turísticos “La ciudad primada de América”.

THE CREATION OF THE MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART OF THE COLONIAL ZONE (MACZC)

LOCATION 1 - (MACZC) / JOSÉ CESTERO MUSEUM-: where the work of JOSÉ CESTERO, National Prize for Visual Arts 2015 and chronicler of the city of Santo Domingo, will be exhibited, and will feature a biographical museography of his life and work, making thus a tribute to one of the most important masters of Dominican art. (Scheduled to open in March-April 2020, located at Calle Arzobispo Portes 128, Ciudad Colonial, Santo Domingo, RD.)
SECOND STAGE:
LOCATION 2 - (MACZC) / MUSEUM OF THE HISTORY OF DOMINICAN CONTEMPORARY ART-: where works by different artists will be exhibited, and it will have a museography explaining the origin of contemporary Dominican art, from the participation of Spanish immigrant artists, the result of exile Spanish republican, the creation of the School of Fine Arts in Santo Domingo and its development with the different promotions of artists graduated from it, as well as others that were formed and stood out from that period. LOCATION 3: - (MACZC) / FIVE DECADES OF DOMINICAN CONTEMPORARY ART 1950-2000- where works by different artists will be exhibited, and there will be a museography explaining the participation of the Dominican artists who stood out the most in the 1950s , 60, 70, 80. 90. (In planning).
Finally, we can highlight that, by incorporating this added value to the existing museum offer, it will enrich the country's cultural content proposal, contributing to the development of Dominican society and highlighting the most important of our tourist destinations "The Primate City of America "
