Reconociendo su condición como uno de los exponentes fundamentales del arte dominicano contemporáneo, el Ministerio de Cultura, el Comité Organizador de la 29 Bienal Nacional de Artes Visuales y la Galería Nacional de Bellas Artes, dedican esta vigésimo novena edición del histórico evento de las artes plásticas y visuales dominicanas al consagrado artista santiagués Orlando Menicucci (1949),con la muestra retrospectiva titulada “LOS ESTADOS DE LA LUZ”, la cual reúne más de 70 obras en grandes y medianos formatos, representativas de las diversas búsquedas estéticas, filosóficas y espirituales que éste multidisciplinario y polifacético creador logra materializar con maestría y lucidez excepcionales durante un proceso de más de seis décadas de trayectoria creadora.
In-tempo (desarrollo y recorrido cronológicos), la muestra se estructura sobre tres ejes productivos o núcleos unificadores de obras esenciales en la producción total de Orlando Menicucci. Un primer eje, inicia y revela el trayecto evolutivo de Menicucci con 9 obras de la década 1960; el segundo eje, integra 20 obras de las décadas de 1970 y 1980, mientras que un tercer y rematador núcleo integra más de 30 obras ejecutadas entre 1990 y 2020. El cuerpo expositivo, está compuesto por una reducida selección cuyo rastreo en distintas colecciones públicas y privadas del país ha tomado poco más de tres años ya que, durante las últimas cuatro décadas, la actividad productiva de Orlando Menicucci se registra prácticamente fuera de los circuitos expositivos y de mercado convencionales, resultando “LOS ESTADOS DE LA LUZ” la primera gran muestra retrospectiva de su obra, permitiendo a los especialistas y amantes del arte dominicano, apreciar por primera vez y estudiar de cerca una serie de obras pictóricas axiales y especialmente significativas que hasta ahora no habían sido exhibidas públicamente.
Como exposición retrospectiva, “LOS ESTADOS DE LA LUZ”, propone un diálogo lúdico y reflexivo sobre las principales búsquedas y pruebas ontológicas, estéticas y espirituales que nutren y apuntalan la personalidad, práctica y trayectoria creadoras de Orlando Menicucci, desde las iniciáticas experimentaciones con las texturas de la materia, el Informalismo y la geometría sensible, hacia finales de la década de 1960, hasta los niveles paroxísticos de expresividad que logra con su particular polisíntesis estilística, rematada mediante unos clarividentes raudales de urdimbres, “oberturas”, ritmos y sinopsis formales, así como por una insólita capacidad de análisis, fraccionamiento y multiexpresividad del espacio visual que se manifiesta en una serie de obras paradigmáticas de su etapa “Pluralista” entre las décadas de 1970 y 1980.
El espíritu dialógico de “LOS ESTADOS DE LA LUZ”, adquiere mayor magnitud con una selección de obras pictóricas reveladoras, realizadas por Orlando Menicucci entre 1990 y 2020, resaltando su espléndida fusión de postexpresionismo, neopop y abstracción minimalista; las sugestivas transparencias de unas superficies “invisibles”; así como una proliferante paisajística de “eternas viajeras”: nubes volátiles, cielos y espejismos de calamina, impregnados de historias, iridiscentes, transmigraciones y amores indelebles; orbitas de clarividencias, arcoíris y silencios rizomáticos; marinas, cordilleras y efigies tutelares; espejos de arena y de salitre; códices de azares inefables y místicos vacíos incesantes.
Orlando Menicucci, especializa su dicción plástica a partir de una síntesis rigurosa, resolutiva y culminante de lo formal, lo informal y lo abstracto. A la hora del análisis del proceso depurador de su práctica creadora, resultan reveladoras su amplia cultura humanística, su gran sensibilidad social y su íntima asimilación de los textos y tradiciones sapienciales esenciales de Oriente y Occidente. De ahí que en su poética operativa, su universo simbólico y su luminoso eclecticismo conceptual, confluyen lo concreto y lo subjetivo; lo físico y lo metafísico, con unos niveles conmovedores de vitalidad y libertad y creadoras.
Este recorrido curatorial, museográfico y dialógico por “LOS ESTADOS DE LA LUZ”, a través de las preocupaciones y temáticas pasionales y apasionantes de Orlando Menicucci, nos hace detener ante obras donde la energía, la tensión, el contrapunteo y la incesante transposición de cuerpos y espacios, aparecen como elocuentes ejercicios de expresión y elaboración metafórica de lo existencial, lo espiritual, lo físico y lo metafísico.
La ruta trazada, marca ejes temáticos y reflexivos clave en la obra de Menicucci, tales como los estados energéticos de la vida y la naturaleza; lo fenomenológico; el caos y el orden cósmicos; luz y oscuridad; la corporeidad; el eros y lo sensual; lo mágico-mitológico; lo daimónico; lo psíquico; lo onírico y lo cristológico, además de cuestiones históricas, sociales, ecológicas, culturales e identitarias, observables en su serie “Códices Antillanos”. La luz, como constante búsqueda mística y estética, se revela radiante y elemental en sus “Mantras Visuales”, marcadores de su más reciente periodo productivo.
“LOS ESTADOS DE LA LUZ”, cuenta con el patrocinio de Seguros Reservas y Express Parcel Service (EPS). Las obras en exhibición, proceden de las colecciones del Museo de Arte Moderno; el Centro Cultural León Jimenes y el Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo, así como de los coleccionistas Juan Manuel Portela Bisonó, María Amelia Finke, Antonio Segundo Imbert, Charles Cid, Elvin Diaz, Mario Martínez Fernández, Eddy Guzmán, Joel López, Frank Pimentel, Marianne de Tolentino, José Ignacio Paliza, Leda Cuello, Jenny Croes, Edwin Espinal Matos, Rebecca Barreras, Rosario Bordas, Caryana Castillo, Albania Chaljub, Sandra Garip, Patricia Castillo, Carla Riggio y la familia Menicucci.
ORLANDO MENICUCCI
Nació en Santiago de los Caballeros, el 30 de enero de 1949. Tomó clases con Yoryi Morel y Federico Izquierdo. Los críticos catalogan su obra de abstraccionismo-figurativo; en ella hay una especie de visión etérea de la transformación de la vida y el mundo en tanto formas sin nombre.
En 1971 realizó estudios especializados de restauración y curaduría de obras de arte en México.

Recognizing its status as one of the fundamental exponents of contemporary Dominican art, the Ministry of Culture, the Organizing Committee of the 29 National Visual Arts Biennial and the National Gallery of Fine Arts, dedicate this twenty-ninth edition of the historic event of the plastic arts and Dominican visuals to the consecrated Santiago artist Orlando Menicucci (1949), with the retrospective exhibition entitled "LOS ESTADOS DE LA LUZ", which brings together more than 70 works in large and medium formats, representative of the various aesthetic, philosophical and spiritual searches that This multidisciplinary and multifaceted creator manages to materialize with exceptional skill and lucidity during a process of more than six decades of creative trajectory.

The exhibition body is made up of a reduced selection whose tracing in different public and private collections in the country has taken little more than three years since, during the last four decades, Orlando Menicucci's productive activity has been recorded practically outside the exhibition circuits and conventional market, resulting "LOS ESTADOS DE LA LUZ" the first major retrospective exhibition of his work, allowing specialists and lovers of Dominican art, appreciate for the first time and study closely a series of axial and especially significant pictorial works that so far they had not been publicly displayed.
As a retrospective exhibition, "THE STATES OF LIGHT", proposes a playful and reflective dialogue on the main searches and ontological, aesthetic and spiritual tests that nourish and underpin the personality, practice and creative trajectory of Orlando Menicucci, from the initiatic experiments with the textures of matter, Informalism and sensible geometry, towards the end of the 1960s, to the paroxysmal levels of expressiveness that he achieves with his particular stylistic polysynthesis, finished off by clairvoyant streams of warps, “overtures”, rhythms and formal synopses , as well as by an unusual capacity for analysis, fractionation and multi-expressiveness of the visual space that is manifested in a series of paradigmatic works from his "Pluralist" stage between the 1970s and 1980s.
The dialogic spirit of “LOS ESTADOS DE LA LUZ”, acquires greater magnitude with a selection of revealing pictorial works, made by Orlando Menicucci between 1990 and 2020, highlighting its splendid fusion of post-expressionism, neo-pop and minimalist abstraction; the suggestive transparencies of "invisible" surfaces; as well as a proliferating landscape of “eternal travelers”: volatile clouds, skies and mirages of calamine, impregnated with stories, iridescent, transmigrations and indelible loves; orbits of clairvoyance, rainbows and rhizomatic silences; marinas, mountain ranges and tutelary effigies; sand and saltpeter mirrors; aza codices ineffable res and ceaseless empty mystics.
Orlando Menicucci, specializes in his artistic diction from a rigorous, decisive and culminating synthesis of the formal, the informal and the abstract. When analyzing the purifying process of his creative practice, his broad humanistic culture, his great social sensitivity and his intimate assimilation of the essential wisdom texts and traditions of the East and the West are revealing. Hence, in his operative poetics, his symbolic universe and his luminous conceptual eclecticism, the concrete and the subjective converge; the physical and the metaphysical, with poignant levels of vitality and freedom and creative.
This curatorial, museographic and dialogical journey through “THE STATES OF LIGHT”, through the passionate and passionate concerns and themes of Orlando Menicucci, makes us pause before works where energy, tension, counterpoint and the incessant transposition of bodies and spaces, appear as eloquent exercises of expression and metaphorical elaboration of the existential, the spiritual, the physical and the metaphysical.

ORLANDO MENICUCCI
He was born in Santiago de los Caballeros, on January 30, 1949. He took classes with Yoryi Morel and Federico Izquierdo. Critics classify his work as figurative-abstractionism; in it there is a kind of ethereal vision of the transformation of life and the world into nameless forms.
