En el contexto de la celebración de centenario del natalicio de Ramon Oviedo (1924-2015), el Centro Cultural Perelló, presenta la exposición OVIEDO 100 AÑOS. Obras Selectas de la Colección Báez-Tavárez, conformada por más de 50 obras, entre pinturas sobre tela de diversos formatos y dibujos en técnica mixta sobre papel, pertenecientes a la colección de arte dominicano, caribeño y latinoamericano que Fernando Báez Guerrero y Nancy Tavárez de Báez han venido acopiando y conservando con visión y pasión durante las últimas tres décadas.
COLECCIÓN BÁEZ-TAVÁREZ
OVIEDO 100 AÑOS. Obras Selectas de la Colección Báez-Tavárez, adquiere su propio equilibrio curatorial y museográfico a partir de una selección de obras pictóricas que no sólo resultan demostrativas de la vitalidad imaginativa, la mutabilidad estilística o discursiva y la energía creativa distintivas de Ramón Oviedo, sino también la estremecedora hondura de sus búsquedas filosóficas y su abordaje estético-poético de la experiencia humana, las raíces espirituales identitarias, la cultura popular, las mitologías y rituales del caos cotidiano y los enigmas de la existencia.
Una distintiva inflexión mística, proyecta el cuerpo expositivo a través de varias obras pictóricas excepcionales que brillan por sus altos niveles de artisticidad y su insólita profusión simbólica y en las cuales Oviedo logra materializar con genialidad única los ígneos destellos del territorio de lo ignoto, los secretos presagios de la magia del ancestro y las cifras espectrales de su taumatúrgico, fecundo y alucinatorio “viaje a la semilla”, como las tituladas Amuletos; Rito Remoto; Personaje mitológico; Instrumento de comunicación y Atrapado por ciguapas.
Una selección de 20 dibujos en técnica mixta sobre papel, funciona como eje reafirmador de la capacidad de apertura y la magnitud cualitativa que suma la obra de Ramón Oviedo a la Colección Báez-Tavárez. La mayoría de estos dibujos, son creaciones exclusivas del artista para su gran amigo y admirador Fernando Báez Guerrero, quien nos advierte que, en los sus trazos, gestos y colores de estos trabajos sobre papel, reverberan las preocupaciones, las vivencias íntimas y la originalidad creadora del Maestro Ilustre de la Pintura Dominicana.
La obra de Ramón Oviedo, retiene su respuesta sensible y cáustica al complejo proceso políticosocial que le tocó vivir. La sublimidad estética, el súbito vuelo conceptual y la deliciosa ironía con que aborda la historicidad, el proceso de mutación sociocultural, el hábitat y el absurdo cotidiano, caracterizan algunas de las obras clave de la Colección Báez-Tavárez, como las tituladas Sordina; Contorsionados; Seña malinterpretada; Siesta del carretillero; Fin de la farsa; Antes de Lázaro levantarse; Truco de brujo; Tercer viaje; El tren del Rey; Se avecinan las olimpiadas; Francotirador; Prisa en dos direcciones; Cargando un borracho; Futuros Hábitats; Hito espacial; Vigilancia Silente y Brisa tocando su límite.
La condición humana se constituye en la prima materia de la obra de Ramón Oviedo. Durante más de seis décadas, nuestro artista desarrolla su producción en distintos períodos creativos y discursivos, iniciando, cerrando y reiniciando con asombrosa vitalidad hasta lograr una gramática plástica radicalmente ecléctica, mediante su personal fusión del neoexpresionismo figurativo y el expresionismo abstracto, basada en líneas y formas puras, signos mixtificados y gestos espontáneos, llegando a generar “escuela” en la pintura dominicana contemporánea. El universo simbólico de Ramón Oviedo, nos remite hacia lo ontológico; los ritmos y tensiones del espacio-tiempo; el mito; la historicidad; la estructura interna de las cosas; vida y muerte y su propia transformación como creador.

A distinctive mystical inflection projects the exhibition body through several exceptional pictorial works that shine for their high levels of artisticity and their unusual symbolic profusion and in which Oviedo manages to materialize with unique genius the fiery flashes of the territory of the unknown, the secrets omens of the magic of the ancestor and the spectral figures of his thaumaturgic, fecund and hallucinatory “journey to the seed”, such as those titled Amulets; Remote Rite; mythological character; Communication instrument and Trapped by ciguapas. For more than six decades, our artist develops his production in different creative and discursive periods, beginning, closing and restarting with astonishing vitality until achieving a radically eclectic plastic grammar, through his personal fusion of figurative neo-expressionism and abstract expressionism, based on lines and pure forms, mixed signs and spontaneous gestures, generating a “school” in contemporary Dominican painting. UNA AMISTAD FRATERNA Y ESTIMULADORA
En diversas ocasiones, tanto mis familiares y amigos cercanos como yo mismo, hemos reflexionado sobre las motivaciones que me han llevado por los caminos del coleccionismo. Las respuestas han tomado varias direcciones, sin embargo, en mi particular caso como coleccionista de arte, siento en lo más profundo que esas motivaciones tienen que ver con el peso genético de mi abuelo, el destacado artista, pintor y fotógrafo Tuto Báez. Y es que siento que ese gen apasionado de mi abuelo por el arte, de algún modo, vive también en mi personalidad de coleccionista que, con paciencia, pasión y respeto por el arte y sus creadores, tiene un peso esencial en mi trayectoria desde la década de los 80s.
Si bien me cobijo bajo el mágico paraguas de las grandes y excepcionales obras de los pintores, dibujantes y escultores consagrados, lo cierto es, y lo confieso como testimonio, que uno de los momentos más importantes que he tenido y sentido como coleccionista de arte, fue el día en que tomé la firme decisión de conformar una colección de pinturas y dibujos del Maestro Ramón Oviedo.
Para ser preciso, recuerdo que adquirí mi primera obra del Maestro Oviedo en el año 1988. También confieso el impacto que me causó la personalidad del Maestro Oviedo, la tarde en que mi gran amiga, la exitosa galerista Mildred Canahuate, tuvo la cortesía de llevarlo a mi casa en correspondencia a la gran admiración que sentía por su obra y su trayectoria.
Lleno de orgullo, recuerdo, presenté aquella tarde al Maestro Oviedo a mi familia, acompañado de mi esposa Nancy y de mis hijos Cristina, Fernando y Víctor José. El momento tenía una atmosfera mágica. Aseguro que en aquel momento llegué a comprender el por qué o la razón de que los artistas del linaje y la trascendencia del Maestro Oviedo son considerados un verdadero lujo para las sociedades, para los pueblos y para las naciones a las que pertenecen.
La especial admiración que ya en esa época yo tenía por la obra y la personalidad del Maestro Oviedo se la había expresado en numerosas ocasiones a Mildred Canahuate, a quien también le había adquirido diversas obras del artista, tanto en exposiciones individuales como colectivas presentadas en su prestigiosa Galería de Arte Arawak.
A partir de aquel inolvidable primer encuentro, mi amistad con el Maestro Oviedo se fue reafirmando y enriqueciendo cada vez más hasta convertirse en un espacio humano de afecto, admiración y respeto mutuo. Las visitas del Maestro Oviedo a mi residencia se fueron multiplicando con el tiempo, gracias a la relación cercana de amistad también cultivada con su nieto Omar Molina Oviedo, a quien defino como un celoso y sincero guardián del legado de este Gran Maestro de la pintura dominicana, caribeña, latinoamericana y universal.
El estímulo de mi amistad con el Maestro Oviedo, es la principal razón para que varias de sus pinturas de mayor poder simbólico, hoy formen parte de nuestra colección, la cual integra una serie excepcional de dibujos, puesto que, además de la firma del artista, llevan las siglas de mi nombra F.B como código integrante de registro. Son unos dibujos vivos y luminosos, cargados de energía, propios de un ser humano y un artista que amó siempre lo que hacía y en lo que creía.
Al contemplar estos dibujos, siento desde lo más profundo de mi ser que, de algún modo, en sus trazos, gestos y rastros de tintas y colores sobre el papel, están constantemente reverberando las vivencias íntimas, la asombrosa imaginación y la gran profundidad de la experiencia vital del Maestro Ramon Oviedo.
Constituye un gran honor y un privilegio, poder compartir con la comunidad cultural del país y, especialmente, con los banilejos y sus admiradores en toda la región Sur, no sólo los frutos maravillosos de mi amistad fraterna y estimuladora con el Maestro Oviedo, sino también una parte importante de la colección familiar con la exposición “OVIEDO. 100 AÑOS. OBRAS SELECTAS DE LA COLECCIÓN BÁEZ-TAVÁREZ”, organizada con visionaria puntualidad justiciera por el Centro Cultural Perelló como aporte especial para la gran celebración de los 100 años de nacimiento del “Maestro Ilustre de la Pintura Dominicana”.
Junto a mi familia, agradezco a la familia Perelló Abreu, a la Fundación Perelló y al Centro Cultural Perelló, en la persona de su directora, mi apreciada amiga Julia Castillo, por darme nuevamente la oportunidad y la satisfacción de mostrar lo mejor de nuestra colección y compartir con el pueblo dominicano la obra excepcional del Maestro Ramon Oviedo, la cual considero uno de los momentos más estelares del arte moderno de la República Dominicana.

A FRATERNAL AND STIMULATING FRIENDSHIP
On several occasions, both my family and close friends and myself have reflected on the motivations that have led me down the paths of collecting. The answers have taken several directions, however, in my particular case as an art collector, I feel deeply that these motivations have to do with the genetic weight of my grandfather, the outstanding artist, painter and photographer Tuto Báez. And I feel that my grandfather's passionate gene for art, in some way, also lives in my personality as a collector who, with patience, passion and respect for art and its creators, has an essential weight in my career since decade of the 80s.
Although I shelter under the magical umbrella of the great and exceptional works of established painters, draftsmen and sculptors, the truth is, and I confess it as testimony, that one of the most important moments that I have had and felt as an art collector, It was the day I made the firm decision to put together a collection of paintings and drawings by Maestro Ramón Oviedo.
To be precise, I remember that I acquired my first work by Maestro Oviedo in 1988. I also confess the impact that Maestro Oviedo's personality had on me, the afternoon in which my great friend, the successful gallery owner Mildred Canahuate, had the courtesy to take him to my house in correspondence with the great admiration I felt for his work and his career.
Full of pride, I remember, that afternoon I introduced Maestro Oviedo to my family, accompanied by my wife Nancy and my children Cristina, Fernando and Víctor José. The moment had a magical atmosphere. I assure you that at that moment I came to understand why or why artists of the lineage and transcendence of Maestro Oviedo are considered a true luxury for the societies, for the people and for the nations to which they belong.
The special admiration that at that time I had for the work and personality of Maestro Oviedo had been expressed on numerous occasions to Mildred Canahuate, from whom I had also acquired various works by the artist, both in individual and group exhibitions presented at her prestigious Arawak Art Gallery.
From that unforgettable first meeting, my friendship with Maestro Oviedo was reaffirmed and enriched more and more until it became a human space of affection, admiration and mutual respect. Master Oviedo's visits to my residence multiplied over time, thanks to the close relationship of friendship also cultivated with his grandson Omar Molina Oviedo, whom I define as a jealous and sincere guardian of the legacy of this Great Master of Dominican painting. , Caribbean, Latin American and universal.
The encouragement of my friendship with Maestro Oviedo is the main reason why several of his paintings with the greatest symbolic power are now part of our collection, which includes an exceptional series of drawings, since, in addition to the artist's signature , they carry the acronym of my name F.B as the registration code. They are living and luminous drawings, full of energy, typical of a human being and an artist who always loved what he did and what he believed in.
When contemplating these drawings, I feel from the depths of my being that, somehow, in their strokes, gestures and traces of inks and colors on the paper, the intimate experiences, the amazing imagination and the great depth of the vital experience of Maestro Ramon Oviedo.
It is a great honor and a privilege to be able to share with the cultural community of the country and, especially, with the Banilejos and their admirers throughout the Southern region, not only the wonderful fruits of my fraternal and stimulating friendship with Maestro Oviedo, but also an important part of the family collection with the exhibition “OVIEDO. 100 YEARS. SELECTED WORKS FROM THE BÁEZ-TAVÁREZ COLLECTION”, organized with visionary and righteous punctuality by the Perelló Cultural Center as a special contribution to the great celebration of the 100 years of birth of the “Illustrious Master of Dominican Painting”.
Together with my family, I thank the Perelló Abreu family, the Perelló Foundation and the Perelló Cultural Center, in the person of its director, my appreciated friend Julia Castillo, for once again giving me the opportunity and satisfaction of showing the best of our collection. and share with the Dominican people the exceptional work of Maestro Ramon Oviedo, which I consider one of the most stellar moments of modern art in the Dominican Republic.
