Las pinturas del dominicano Nelson González derriban el muro invisible que separa a los habitantes de los barrios ribereños de Santo Domingo, de quienes a diario pasan con prisa y sin mirar; como tratando de protegerse del dolor que provoca la pobreza perpetuada en el tiempo.

Con la crudeza formal del neoexpresionismo, el artista asalta las conciencias de galeristas, coleccionistas, críticos y seguidores del arte, para motivar en ellos la reflexión sobre la vulnerabilidad de los marginados a orillas de los ríos Ozama e Isabela y la necesidad de una transformación social urgente.
Entre los amantes locales de la obra de González, algunos de los cuales planean llevarla a España, Colombia y otros países, se encuentran Alejandro Asmar, Kelvin Naar, Nanchu Espínola, Antonio Ocaña, Ruahidy Lombert y Mario Martínez.
Asmar, coleccionista y filántropo, se declara fanático del arte que desnuda realidades sociales; de creadores criollos que, como el gran maestro Ramón Oviedo o el maravilloso González, han legado al mundo cuadros temáticos “de grandeza inocultable”.
Las obras de este último pintor multipremiado, escribe el también médico y empresario en sus redes sociales, son representaciones “de una realidad social que distorsiona la figura, porque (el artista) no tiene otra manera de expresar en un lienzo tanto sufrimiento, tanto dolor y tanta impotencia ante la injusticia social”.
Y así lo reconoce el propio González: “Recreo en mis piezas la condición existencial del ser aislado y ensimismado en su infelicidad, así como en su realidad socioeconómica: una convergencia terrible entre la angustia internalizada y el dramatismo de una subsistencia hambrienta, desgarradora y resiliente”.
En el enclave del universo que le ha tocado reinterpretar, el talentoso dominicano recuerda las palabras de su admirado Francisco de Goya: “El sueño de la razón produce monstruos. La fantasía aislada de la razón, solo produce monstruos imposibles. Unida a ella, en cambio, es la madre del arte y fuente de toda belleza”.
Frustraciones y sueños
Otro de sus coleccionistas, el laureado arquitecto y fotógrafo dominicano Kelvin Naar, advierte que González es un artista de sólida formación y profunda sensibilidad, que no busca satisfacer las exigencias del mercado.
“La suya no es una obra complaciente o decorativa, sino de fuertes planteamientos humanos y estéticos. Retrata la realidad de su propio entorno: dolores, vicisitudes, frustraciones y, también, luchas y sueños”.
Naar se maravilla de la singular maestría con la que el pintor ofrece sus propias versiones, lo mismo de los castigos de una madre a su hijo o los sueños rotos de un grupo de niños en Día de Reyes, que de la bachata en el colmadón y la pareja que la baila, moviéndose al ritmo de su propia felicidad.
Mitos y símbolos
Ruahidy Lombert, conservador y restaurador de patrimonios culturales, considera que los mitos y símbolos empleados por González revelan “la resiliencia, la fuerza y el espíritu” de quienes enfrentan adversidades “cuya mitigación a menudo escapa a su control, debido a múltiples factores estructurales y sistémicos”.
Y no teme llamar por su nombre a las inequidades que moldean la dura realidad de los barrios ribereños de Santo Domingo: “falta de acceso a servicios básicos, discriminación y exclusión de procesos de toma de decisiones”.
Para el prologuista del catálogo de la reciente y exitosa exposición Persistencia del olvido, de González, el pintor “hace visible lo invisible, dando voz a quienes no son escuchados y mostrando
aspectos de la vida cotidiana que podrían pasar desapercibidos”. Por todo esto, le llama: “el pintor del barrio”.
“Su obra es un homenaje a la lucha, el amor, la esperanza y la resistencia de las personas que enfrentan desafíos y dificultades en su día a día”, continúa el curador, quien afirma que también invita a reflexionar sobre la exclusión social y a ejecutar acciones que puedan “lograr un cambio social positivo y duradero”.
“La obra de Nelson González es un recordatorio del poder del arte para generar conciencia, inspirar empatía y movilizar a la sociedad en busca de un futuro más humano e igualitario”, concluye Lombert.
