El presidente de la Junta de Síndicos del Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico (MAPR), Lcdo. Arturo García Solá, anunció que la artista, curadora y gestora cultural, Marta Mabel Pérez, ha sido designada como la nueva Directora ejecutiva en propiedad del Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico.
Luego de más de dos años como directora interina de la Institución y grandes logros a su haber durante este tiempo, la Junta de Síndicos anunció el nombramiento oficial durante el evento anual de patrocinadores del MAPR celebrado el pasado jueves en el Museo.
Marta Mabel es parte del equipo del MAPR desde el 2005 cuando fundó y gerenció por 12 años el innovador Programa de Asistencia al Artista (PROA), un proyecto de enlace con la comunidad artística en Puerto Rico, único en su clase. Bajo la incumbencia interina de Marta Mabel el MAPR ha obtenido importantes subvenciones para conservación de arte y desarrollo de exhibiciones como la de The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, la National Endowment for the Arts y el Conservation Art Project del Bank of America e inauguró su nueva exhibición permanente titulada ‘Puerto Rico Plural’, entre otros relevantes proyectos.
Por si fuera poco, Marta Mabel y el equipo del Museo, se convirtieron en recipientes del Chair’s Leadership Award 2019, un importante galardón otorgado por la Alianza Americana de Museos, que no se entrega anualmente, sino que se reserva para casos excepcionales de liderazgo sobresaliente y logros extraordinarios en el campo de los museos. Esto en reconocimiento a su labor de rescate patrimonial durante la emergencia ante el paso de los huracanes Irma y María en el 2017.
El Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico (MAPR), entidad acreditada por la Alianza Americana de Museos, afiliada al Smithsonian Institution y patrimonio del pueblo de Puerto Rico, es una institución privada sin fines de lucro, incorporada en el 1996, y abierta al público desde el 2000. Marta Mabel Pérez is named Executive Director owned by MAPR, Puerto Rico
The president of the Board of Trustees of the Museum of Art of Puerto Rico (MAPR), Lcdo. Arturo García Solá, announced that the artist, curator and cultural manager, Marta Mabel Pérez, has been designated as the new Executive Director owned by the Puerto Rico Museum of Art.
After more than two years as interim director of the Institution and great achievements to his credit during this time, the Board of Trustees announced the official appointment during the annual MAPR sponsors event held last Thursday at the Museum.
Marta Mabel has been part of the MAPR team since 2005 when she founded and managed for 12 years the innovative Artist Assistance Program (PROA), a project of liaison with the artistic community in Puerto Rico, unique in its class. Under the interim responsibility of Marta Mabel, MAPR has obtained important grants for art conservation and exhibition development such as The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Bank of America Conservation Art Project and inaugurated its new permanent exhibition entitled 'Puerto Rico Plural', among other relevant projects.
To make matters worse, Marta Mabel and the Museum team became recipients of the Chair's Leadership Award 2019, an important award granted by the American Museum Alliance, which is not given annually, but is reserved for exceptional cases of outstanding leadership and extraordinary achievements in the field of museums. This in recognition of their heritage rescue work during the emergency in the face of hurricanes Irma and María in 2017.
