El próximo miércoles 4 de diciembre, a las 7:00 p.m., Galería Arte San Ramón dará a apertura a la Exposición “Cardinal. De dónde vengo. Dónde estoy. A dónde voy”, de la destacada artista Iliana Emilia García. Se presentará al público su producción más reciente, un interesante conjunto de pinturas de gran formato, instalaciones y dibujos.

En este conjunto de obras, comenta la curadora Paula Gómez Jorge: “la artista explora cómo el Mar Caribe y las travesías marítimas han dado forma a la historia y la identidad del ser caribeño, utilizando un lenguaje visual cargado de metáforas y símbolos. Elementos como el mar, la canoa, la silla y la palabra se entrelazan en composiciones híbridas que oscilan entre lo esquemático y lo figurativo como resultado de una única conjunción de técnicas y lenguajes artísticos. Estas piezas sitúan al Mar Caribe no sólo como frontera y escape, sino como un espacio de enorme complejidad y carga simbólica, donde se reconstruyen constantemente las historias y las identidades de las islas y sus diásporas”.
Iliana Emilia García, dominicana residente en Brooklyn, Nueva York es una artista multidisciplinaria: pintora, grabadora y artista de instalaciones que trabaja en dibujos de gran formato sobre lienzo y papel, e instalaciones que presentan su símbolo más icónico: la silla. Su trabajo explora conceptos de historia emocional, memoria colectiva y ancestral, como artista dominicana de la diáspora en los Estados Unidos. Es Cofundadora del Proyecto GRÁFICA Dominican York, tiene un AAS dela Escuela de Diseño Altos de Chavón, un BFA de la Escuela de Diseño Parsons | The New School, y un MA en Biografía y Memorias del Graduate Center, CUNY. García ha participado en exposiciones individuales y en dúo en el AMA Museo de Arte de las Américas, Taller Boricua, Hostos Community College, Nueva York, Universidad de Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania y ha exhibido en BRIC, Brooklyn, NY; Exit Art, Nueva York; No Longer Empty en Sugar Hill, NY; el Museo Smithsonian de Arte Americano, Washington, DC; El Museo del Barrio, Nueva York; Centro Aljira de Arte Contemporáneo, Newark, NJ; Galería Leonora Vega, Nueva York; Galería Howard Scott, Nueva York; NOMAA, Nueva York; Joan Guaita, España; la III Trienal Poli-Gráfica, San Juan, Puerto Rico; Barnard College, Nueva York; Museo de Arte Moderno de El Salvador; Bélgica, entre otros. Sus obras se encuentran en las colecciones de importantes instituciones artísticas internacionales, tales como, Smithsonian American Art Museum, El Museo del Barrio, The Blanton Museum of Art, Texas, Museo de Arte Moderno de El Salvador y el Museo de Arte Moderno de Santo Domingo, entre otros.
La exposición “Cardinal. De dónde vengo. Dónde estoy. A dónde voy” de la artista Iliana Emilia García traza rutas de identidad y memoria en el Mar Caribe, sus obras capturan la belleza y las tensiones de este entorno natural, evocando tanto la calma de sus azules como la fuerza de sus olas en constante cambio. En estas obras, el mar se convierte en frontera, camino y testigo de las historias compartidas en el Caribe.
La exposición estará abierta al público hasta el 15 de enero de 2025 en Arte San Ramón.
La Galería Arte San Ramón, comprometida con la promoción del arte dominicano y caribeño, ofrece esta exposición como un espacio para el diálogo entre las prácticas artísticas contemporáneas y las reflexiones sobre la identidad y el territorio.

In this set of works, curator Paula Gómez Jorge comments: “the artist explores how the Caribbean Sea and maritime voyages have shaped the history and identity of the Caribbean being, using a visual language loaded with metaphors and symbols. Elements such as the sea, the canoe, the chair and the word are intertwined in hybrid compositions that oscillate between the schematic and the figurative as a result of a unique conjunction of artistic techniques and languages. These pieces situate the Caribbean Sea not only as a border and escape, but as a space of enormous complexity and symbolic charge, where the histories and identities of the islands and their diasporas are constantly reconstructed.”
Iliana Emilia García, a Dominican resident in Brooklyn, New York, is a multidisciplinary artist: a painter, printmaker and installation artist who works in large-format drawings on canvas and paper, and installations that present her most iconic symbol: the chair. Her work explores concepts of emotional history, collective and ancestral memory, as a Dominican artist of the diaspora in the United States. She is Co-Founder of the Dominican York GRÁFICA Project, has an AAS from the Altos de Chavón School of Design, a BFA from the Parsons School of Design | The New School, and an MA in Biography and Memoirs from the Graduate Center, CUNY. The exhibition “Cardinal. Where I come from. Where I am. Where I am going” by artist Iliana Emilia García traces routes of identity and memory in the Caribbean Sea. Her works capture the beauty and tensions of this natural environment, evoking both the calm of its blues and the force of its constantly changing waves. In these works, the sea becomes a border, a path, and a witness to shared stories in the Caribbean.
The exhibition will be open to the public until January 15, 2025 at Arte San Ramón.
