Una exposición es siempre una oportunidad para despertar los sentidos, aprender, nutrirse y deleitarse. Por ello, es motivo de enorme entusiasmo para el Ministerio de Cultura ser el facilitador y anfitrión de esta magnífica muestra, titulada Guillo Perez: obras maestras de un coleccionista, que es la tercera que se exhibe en la Galería Ramón Oviedo tras su reinauguración, y a la cual le brindo una cálida bienvenida.
Esta exposición, que brilla con luz propia al tratarse de una exhibición de cuadros del gran maestro Guillo Pérez, es también una evidencia más de la política de difusión y puesta en valor de obras y artistas que nos han dado prestigio con su creatividad y su talento, lo cual, como todos sabemos, es un objetivo que nos marcamos desde el principio de nuestra gestión. Al margen de ello, permítanme añadir que esta es una de esas muestras que nos enorgullecen como dominicanos.
Todo aquel que visite esta exposición va a tener la oportunidad de disfrutar de las obras de un artista que plasmó como pocos el colorido del paisaje de este país. Se trata, además, de uno de los pintores dominicanos más prolíficos e importantes en el uso del óleo como técnica y del lienzo como soporte de su obra, cómo podemos comprobar en esta muestra, que, aunque muy limitada en relación a su producción, es muy significativa sobre el estilo del artista.
Poder apreciar el trabajo de un genio creativo de la pintura como lo es Guillo Pérez, es siempre objeto de tremenda satisfacción y, en esta ocasión, esta oportunidad se debe a la contribución del coleccionista Juan Portela, quien, de manera generosa y desinteresada, a prestado estas obras para que todos las podamos contemplar.
Gracias al maestro Guillo Pérez por el legado que nos dejó y gracias también a Juan Portela Bisonó por compartir con todos su magnífica colección. Para ambos, mi eterna gratitud.

obras maestras de un coleccionista

El arte nace como un acto creativo que trasciende lo utilitario. Los griegos decoraban las ánforas y vasijas para el agua con geometrías o escenas épicas simplemente por deleite estético, lo que podríamos llamar el arte de hacer arte por el disfrute del arte mismo.
De este hecho se desprende la pasión del coleccionista, esto es, el impulso interior de poseer piezas que construyen una alianza con su meridiano inmaterial y que lo llevan a conformar, por acumulación, una colección de arte.
El entusiasmo por coleccionar se ha manifestado en el devenir de los tiempos. Felipe IV, ya en el siglo XVII, acumuló una colección importante de pinturas, debido a su fascinación por el genio de Velázquez, en el palacio del Buen Retiro. Esa inclinación por coleccionar tenía incluso factores genéticos, si señalamos que su abuelo Felipe II recopiló en el monasterio de San Lorenzo del Escorial la más importante colección medieval de códices.
En el siglo XVII, con el iluminismo, el enciclopedismo y la ilustración, periodo conocido como “El Siglo de las Luces”, se engendra el deseo de organizar con un orden específico el conocimiento y las artes, contribuyendo así a crear los museos o custodios de musas. En ese tiempo de gloria se inaugura el museo del Louvre en París, que en el contexto de su vocación enciclopédica y pedagógica es el más importante del mundo.
Juan Portela ha sido seducido por la pasión de coleccionar arte, y, con un olfato intuitivo, ha logrado construir una de las más importantes pinacotecas de nuestro país. Con el transcurso del tiempo, este coleccionista ha escogido, obedeciendo a un criterio educado y a sus preferencias personales, a un grupo de artistas que representa lo mejor de nuestras artes plásticas; como ejemplo, citamos a Paul Giudicelli y a Domingo Liz.
En esta trayectoria ha conseguido también reunir un conjunto de obras que representa la mejor etapa del maestro Guillo Pérez, de las cuales podemos contemplar una muestra significativa en la galería Ramón Oviedo del Ministerio de cultura; una selección de pinturas y dibujos que expresan los momentos estelares de Guillo Pérez, con verdaderas piezas magistrales del Artista.
A nosotros sólo nos resta ser espectadores activos de este generoso préstamo para tratar de descubrir y descifrar el imaginario de Guillo Pérez, y así ser partícipes del meridiano espiritual de la obra del maestro que mora en la extraordinaria colección de arte dominicano de Juan Portela.

An exhibition is always an opportunity to awaken the senses, learn, nurture and delight. For this reason, it is a source of enormous enthusiasm for the Ministry of Culture to be the facilitator and host of this magnificent exhibition, entitled Guillo Perez: Masterpieces of a Collector, which is the third to be exhibited at the Ramón Oviedo Gallery after its reopening. which I offer you a warm welcome.
This exhibition, which shines with its own light as it is an exhibition of paintings by the great master Guillo Pérez, is also one more evidence of the policy of dissemination and enhancement of works and artists who have given us prestige with their creativity and talent , which, as we all know, is an objective that we set for ourselves from the beginning of our management. Apart from that, let me add that this is one of those exhibitions that makes us proud as Dominicans.
Anyone who visits this exhibition will have the opportunity to enjoy the works of an artist who captured the colorful landscape of this country like few others. He is also one of the most prolific and important Dominican painters in the use of oil as a technique and canvas as a support for his work.How can we see in this exhibition that, although very limited in relation to his production, it is very significant about the artist's style.
Being able to appreciate the work of a creative genius of painting such as Guillo Pérez, is always the object of tremendous satisfaction and, on this occasion, this opportunity is due to the contribution of the collector Juan Portela, who, in a generous and disinterested way, to borrowed these works for all of us to contemplate.
Thanks to the teacher Guillo Pérez for the legacy he left us and thanks also to Juan Portela Bisonó for sharing his magnificent collection with everyone. To both of you, my eternal gratitude.
Guillo Pérez:
masterpieces of a collector

Art is born as a creative act that transcends the utilitarian. The Greeks decorated amphorae and water jars with geometries or epic scenes simply for aesthetic delight, what we might call the art of making art for the enjoyment of art itself.
From this fact arises the collector's passion, that is, the inner impulse to possess pieces that build an alliance with his immaterial meridian and that lead him to form, by accumulation, an art collection.
The enthusiasm for collecting has manifested itself in the course of time. Felipe IV, already in the seventeenth century, accumulated an important collection of paintings, due to his fascination for the genius of Velázquez, in the Buen Retiro palace. This inclination to collect even had genetic factors, if we point out that his grandfather Felipe II collected the most important medieval collection of codices in the monastery of San Lorenzo del Escorial.
In the seventeenth century, with the enlightenment, encyclopedism and illustration, a period known as "The Age of Enlightenment", the desire to organize knowledge and the arts with a specific order was engendered, thus contributing to the creation of museums or custodians of muses. In that time of glory the Louvre museum in Paris was inaugurated, which in the context of its encyclopedic and pedagogical vocation is the most important in the world.
Juan Portela has been seduced by the passion to collect art, and, with an intuitive sense of smell, he has managed to build one of the most important art galleries in our country. Over time, this collector has chosen, obeying an educated criterion and his personal preferences, a group of artists who represent the best of our plastic arts; as an example, we cite Paul Giudicelli and Domingo Liz.
In this career he has also managed to gather a set of works that represents the best period of the master Guillo Pérez, of which we can see a significant sample in the Ramón Oviedo gallery of the Ministry of culture; a selection of paintings and drawings that express the stellar moments of Guillo Pérez, with true masterpieces by the Artist.
It only remains for us to be active spectators of this generous loan to try to discover and decipher the imagery of Guillo Pérez, and thus be part of the spiritual meridian of the master's work that lives in Juan Portela's extraordinary collection of Dominican art.
