Nos agrada calificar ciertos eventos como “pequeñas grandes exposiciones”. Así, sucede en Ossaye Casa de Arte, que presenta una colectiva de tres artistas solamente, pero entre los mejores del arte contemporáneo. Cada uno presenta pocas obras, de muy notables a excelentes.
No es solamente una exposición, sino la vertiente expositiva de un proyecto complejo, que se inicia con una entrevista filmada individual: “La idea es contar sus historias con un estilo orgánico, natural, para que el público tenga la oportunidad de ver cómo son, piensan y actúan estas magníficas personalidades de las artes plásticas”, lo expresa OCA en la introducción del catálogo.
El experimento culmina en una exposición, esperada siempre… Gerald Ellis, Pascal Meccariello e Inés Tolentino son los tres primeros de una docena de elegidos. Sus respectivos videos se transmitirán en pantalla grande y en alta definición.
Luego, cuando OCA haya seleccionado, filmado, expuesto a todos, una transmisión virtual completa permitirá valorar esta importante iniciativa cultural, que aúna la tecnología y la tradición, que significa un avance, nacional e internacional, para el arte dominicano de hoy en su mejor nivel.
Ahora bien, Ossaye Casa de Arte es un sitial para las exposiciones, aliando galería de arte y entorno familiar: el ambiente sensibiliza al público, acogido afable y generosamente.
La exposición
OCA otorga plena libertad a los artistas visuales para que elijan sus obras, obviamente recientes y representativas. Observando esta “pequeña gran exposición”, el visitante podrá tener una primera definición, temperamento y personalidad de los participantes, siendo los tres dibujantes eméritos y dueños de una técnica meticulosa.
Gerald Ellis se ha impuesto como uno de los representantes sobresalientes de una figuración narrativa. Su amplitud temática y su capacidad formal le hacen renovarse, según su propia voluntad e inspiración, aliando aun distintos estilos en una misma pintura, hasta susceptible de integrar el “ready made” universal y el dibujo infantil.
La producción de Gerald Ellis varía, multiplica, osa experiencias y experimentos, con distintos niveles de realidad, que se revelan positivamente en cada exposición personal, en cada participación colectiva… ya que él despliega su talento, sin prejuicio, y hasta con sentido del humor, llegando a la sátira. Lo comprobamos cuando él propone aquí cuatro obras muy distintas… a manera de un reto a su propia producción.
Pascal Meccariello siempre despliega una máxima habilidad, en pintura y dibujo eslabonados, logrando exitosamente fines decorativos y expresión de conceptos, provocando la sorpresa…
En este “Interludio”, las obras de Pascal, si expresamos una síntesis, proponen otro discurso espacial a través de signos y señuelos, tan refinados como exigentes para la apreciación. Su dinamismo creativo y trabajo implacable –el calificativo es del artista- elabora una metamorfosis ignota de la naturaleza, simbiosis entre reinos y especies.
Él se convierte en entomólogo, mejor dicho en entomófilo, plasmando con refinamiento torbellinos de alas y, en su cuadro principal, una insólita criatura y “verdadera reina”. Curiosamente, los sujetos se alían con los objetos, el diseño gráfico con la pintura. Pascal Meccariello invita a una lectura, a la vez abierta, mítica y difícil, ¿nueva etapa y fórmula de su angustiada imaginería?
La expresión plástica de Inés Tolentino, fundamentada en un dibujo riguroso y placentero –una simbiosis algo inusual-, recorre los espacios de la historia y la actualidad. El cuadro impresionante de Magdalena, Patricia e Inés, involucra no solamente la memoria cultural y el recuerdo personal, sino la intervención mixta de medios – pintura, collage, fotografía-, con sensibilidad y humor, destacándose además la belleza floral de un papel decorativo.
Un dibujo o una pintura de Inés siempre integra estética, concepto y mensaje, hasta en la “presentación” de vestidos, que suman silueta, corte, estampado con un estilo inconfundible y sugieren la exaltación del cuerpo. La artista puede demostrar hasta atrevimiento en la elección del soporte: sus dibujos, que se apropian obras maestras de antaño, proponen un pulcro refinamiento sobre viejos “folders” desgastados, una suerte de reciclaje y de alusión al paso del tiempo. ¡Serie especial y sorprendente!
Este primer “interludio de tres” anuncia óptimamente el futuro de un gran proyecto.

We like to describe certain events as “big little exhibitions”. Thus, it happens at Ossaye Casa de Arte, which presents a collective of only three artists, but among the best of contemporary art. Each one presents a few works, from very notable to excellent.
It is not just an exhibition, but the exhibition aspect of a complex project, which begins with an individual filmed interview: “The idea is to tell their stories in an organic, natural style, so that the public has the opportunity to see what they are like, “These magnificent personalities of the plastic arts think and act,” OCA expresses it in the introduction to the catalogue.
The experiment culminates in an exhibition, always awaited... Gerald Ellis, Pascal Meccariello and Inés Tolentino are the first three of a dozen chosen. Their respective videos will be broadcast on the big screen and in high definition.
Then, when OCA has selected, filmed, exposed to everyone, a complete virtual broadcast will allow us to value this important cultural initiative, which combines technology and tradition, which means an advance, national and international, for Dominican art today at its best. level.
Now, Ossaye Casa de Arte is a place for exhibitions, combining an art gallery and a family environment: the atmosphere sensitizes the public, welcomed warmly and generously.
The exhibition
OCA grants complete freedom to visual artists to choose their works, obviously recent and representative. Observing this “little great exhibition”, the visitor will be able to have a first definition, temperament and personality of the participants, the three being emeritus draftsmen and owners of a meticulous technique.
Gerald Ellis has established himself as one of the outstanding representatives of narrative figuration. Its thematic breadth and its formal capacity make it renew itself, according to its own will and inspiration, combining even different styles in the same painting, even capable of integrating the universal “ready made” and children's drawing.
Gerald Ellis' production varies, multiplies, dares experiences and experiments, with different levels of reality, which are positively revealed in each personal exhibition, in each collective participation... since he deploys his talent, without prejudice, and even with a sense of humor , reaching satire. We see it when he proposes four very different works here... as a challenge to his own production.
Pascal Meccariello always displays maximum skill in linked painting and drawing, successfully achieving decorative purposes and expression of concepts, provoking surprise...
In this “Interlude”, Pascal's works, if we express a synthesis, propose another spatial discourse through signs and decoys, as refined as they are demanding for appreciation. His creative dynamism and relentless work – the adjective belongs to the artist – elaborates an unknown metamorphosis of nature, a symbiosis between kingdoms and species.
He becomes an entomologist, or rather an entomophile, capturing with refinement whirlwinds of wings and, in his main painting, an unusual creature and “true queen.” Curiously, subjects ally themselves with objects, graphic design with painting. Pascal Meccariello invites a reading, at once open, mythical and difficult, a new stage and formula of his anguished imagery?
The plastic expression of Inés Tolentino, based on a rigorous and pleasant drawing – a somewhat unusual symbiosis – travels through the spaces of history and current events. The impressive painting of Magdalena, Patricia and Inés, involves not only cultural memory and personal remembrance, but also the mixed intervention of media - painting, collage, photography -, with sensitivity and humor, also highlighting the floral beauty of a decorative paper.
A drawing or painting by Inés always integrates aesthetics, concept and message, even in the “presentation” of dresses, which add silhouette, cut, print with an unmistakable style and suggest the exaltation of the body. The artist can even demonstrate daring in the choice of support: her drawings, which appropriate masterpieces of yesteryear, propose a neat refinement on old worn-out “folders”, a kind of recycling and allusion to the passage of time. Special and surprising series!
This first “interlude of three” optimally announces the future of a great project.
