Se han sucedido incontables exposiciones colectivas y personales de artes visuales: no dejamos de recordar las muestras de Photoimagen y de Aquiles Azar. Allí también hubo varios seminarios, conferencias y teatro – como el memorable “Ubu Rey”, de Alfred Jarry por el Teatro Gayumba-.
Ahora, acaban de presentar la exposición del artista, reconocido y premiado, Alejandro Asencio, titulada “Momentous”, en el salón-galería del instituto que luce una renovación notable.
La curaduría es de la experimentada gestora cultural María del Carmen Ossaye, que ha elegido obras recientes y muy representativas. Debemos también hacer mención de la museografía, bien concebida para que el visitante camina descubriendo cada cuadro –pintura mayormente y dibujo-.
El texto del catálogo es de la autoría del experto escritor de arte Efraim Castillo.

La Exposición
Han destacado como temática de la exposición, el paisaje, y fue también la opción nuestra.
Si bien es cierto que Alejandro Asencio presenta una secuencia de personajes, cuales retratos anónimos, su tratamiento los sugiere como parte del ámbito urbano y del transporte aun. No identificamos a estos individuos, exentos de detalles interiores y facciones: les miramos más como protagonistas de un entorno vital, y así mismo apreciamos el dominio pictórico de su fuerza y aplomo corporal. Ellos, pues, integran un paisaje…
La naturaleza circundante significa una verdad existencial profunda para Alejandro Asencio, y se cristaliza entonces en la pintura evocadora sin ser descriptiva, imaginaria sin distanciarse de lo vivido.
Esta visión, a la vez fresca y madura, enseña la perfecta simbiosis entre figuración y abstracción –nunca absoluta-, ambas presentes hasta en un mismo cuadro y tema, o en nuestra interpretación como lector de una “obra abierta” (Umberto Eco).
Los recursos de la técnica y la academia reconvertida, la transferencia del espíritu en la materia, la imagen de la realidad geográfica están presentes en la variación iconográfica que esta exposición propone, con un raro refinamiento en el colorido.
¡Cuánta maestría en esta tonalidad de “verde-gris” que da al acrílico casi la transparencia de una acuarela! Sin embargo, el mal tiempo y contraste del blanco y negro… cede luego ante el resplandor solar y tonos cálidos. “Del otro lado del jardín” –si nos atrevemos a plagiar el título de una exposición anterior-, el clima cambia.
El cielo parece fundirse con el fondo… el sol tenue ilumina sin embargo una constelación óptica de lluvia… los troncos se hincan y ritman el espacio, la cortina de árboles se despliega…
Sensibilidad y poesía
Para Alejandro Asencio la naturaleza nunca es la misma: expresar esta versatilidad es una forma de experimentación y, para nosotros, una demostración de cómo él lleva su sensibilidad a la agilidad extrema de toques y pinceladas. La fluidez atmosférica resultante es mágica!
Pronto, la pintura alcanza las dimensiones de un poema visual, oda al tiempo y a la temporada.
La obra tiene un poder hipnótico, la emoción del espectador aumenta lentamente, la mirada va penetrando dentro del cuadro, luego a la búsqueda de otro cuadro. ¡Lamentamos llegar a la puerta de salida!
Very personal, the landscapes of Alejandro Asencio

There have been countless collective and personal exhibitions of visual arts: we do not stop remembering the exhibitions of Photoimagen and Aquiles Azar. There were also several seminars, conferences and theater - such as the memorable "Ubu Rey", by Alfred Jarry for the Gayumba Theater-.
Now, they have just presented the exhibition of the renowned and award-winning artist, Alejandro Asencio, entitled "Momentous", in the institute's gallery-salon that shows off a remarkable renovation.
The curatorship is by the experienced cultural manager María del Carmen Ossaye, who has chosen recent and highly representative works. We must also mention the museography, well conceived so that the visitor walks around discovering each painting –mainly painting and drawing-.

The exhibition
They have highlighted as the theme of the exhibition, the landscape, and it was also our choice.
Although it is true that Alejandro Asencio presents a sequence of characters, like anonymous portraits, his treatment suggests them as part of the urban environment and even transportation. We do not identify these individuals, exempt from interior details and features: we look at them more as protagonists of a vital environment, and likewise we appreciate the pictorial mastery of their strength and body poise. They, then, make up a landscape...
The surrounding nature means a deep existential truth for Alejandro Asencio, and it crystallizes then in the evocative painting without being descriptive, imaginary without distancing itself from what has been lived.
This vision, both fresh and mature, shows the perfect symbiosis between figuration and abstraction -never absolute-, both present even in the same painting and theme, or in our interpretation as a reader of an "open work" (Umberto Eco).
The resources of the technique and the converted academy, the transference of the spirit in the matter, the image of the geographical reality are present in the iconographic variation that this exhibition proposes, with a rare refinement in the color.
How much mastery in this “green-gray” tone that gives acrylic almost the transparency of a watercolor! However, the bad weather and contrast of black and white… gives way to sun glare and warm tones. "On the other side of the garden" -if we dare to plagiarize the title of a previous exhibition-, the climate changes.
The sky seems to blend into the background... the dim sun nevertheless illuminates an optical constellation of rain... the trunks kneel and rhythm the space, the curtain of trees unfolds...
Sensitivity and poetry
For Alejandro Asencio, nature is never the same: expressing this versatility is a form of experimentation and, for us, a demonstration of how he brings his sensitivity to the extreme agility of touches and brushstrokes. The resulting atmospheric fluidity is magical!
Soon, the painting reaches the dimensions of a visual poem, an ode to time and the season.
The work has a hypnotic power, the viewer's emotion slowly increases, the gaze penetrates into the painting, then in search of another painting. We're sorry to make it to the starting gate!
