SANTO DOMINGO. El artista plástico, Iván Tovar, fue seleccionado Premio Nacional de Artes Visuales 2018, durante una sesión del comité seleccionador celebrada este lunes 1 de octubre, la que estuvo presidida por el ministro de Cultura, arquitecto Eduardo Selman.
Al hacer el anuncio, tras concluir la reunión, el ministro Selman dijo que la decisión fue unánime, tomando en cuenta que el artista Tovar es una personalidad reconocida de República Dominicana, que ha consagrado su vida a cultivar las artes visuales.
Además, destacó que la decisión de elegirlo Premio Nacional de Artes Visuales 2018 le fue comunicada inmediatamente por vía telefónica a Iván Tovar, quien reside en el exterior, la cual recibió con gran satisfacción.
En ese sentido, el ministro de Cultura, quien preside el Comité Premio Nacional de Artes Visuales 2018, informó que el galardonado vendrá próximamente al país para recibir la distinción, que además incluye la entrega de la suma de 1 millón de pesos.
La reunión del Comité Premio Nacional de Artes Visuales fue celebrada en el despacho del ministro Selman, y a la misma asistieron Elena María Ditrén, directora del Museo del Arte Moderno; Marianne de Tolentino, directora Nacional de la Galería de Bellas Artes y Freddy Javier, presidente del Colegio Dominicano de Artistas Visuales (CODAV).
Otros miembros del comité, presentes en la reunión, fueron Gamal Michelén, presidente de la Asociación Dominicana de Críticos de Arte (ADCA); Juan Julio Bodden, presidente de la Asociación de Galerías de la República Dominicana; María Amalia León, presidenta de la Fundación Eduardo León Jimenes, y Myrna Guerrero Villalona, directora del Museo Bellapart.
Otras personalidades que se dieron cita fueron, Plinio Chaín, quien acudió en representación de Fedel Munnigh, director de la Escuela de Crítica e Historia de Arte de la Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD), y Abil Peralta, gestor cultural y asesor cultural de la Cámara de Diputados.
Breve biografía de Iván Tovar
Nace en 1942, en San Francisco de Macorís. En 1963 llega a París, ciudad en la que residió por unos 20 años. Ha expuesto en Luxemburgo, Estocolmo, Lisboa, Nueva York, entre otros muchos lugares. Fue 2do premio de dibujo en el IV Concurso de Arte Eduardo León Jimenes de 1968. Los críticos inscriben su pintura en el neosurrealismo, si bien sus composiciones despliegan un mundo simbólico extremadamente personal.
Sus obras se encuentran en importantes museos, instituciones culturales y colecciones privadas de la República Dominicana, Europa, Asia, Estados Unidos y América Latina.
Considerado el pintor dominicano es el de más renombre internacional, no solamente por su larga permanencia en París, sino por su atrevida temática surrealista, lo que lo convierte en poseedor de una de las técnicas más depuradas.

SANTO DOMINGO. The plastic artist, Iván Tovar, was selected National Prize of Visual Arts 2018, during a session of the selection committee held on Monday, October 1, which was chaired by the Minister of Culture, architect Eduardo Selman.
In making the announcement, after the meeting concluded, Minister Selman said that the decision was unanimous, taking into account that the artist Tovar is a recognized personality of the Dominican Republic, who has dedicated his life to cultivate the visual arts.
In addition, he stressed that the decision to choose him National Award of Visual Arts 2018 was immediately communicated by telephone to Iván Tovar, who resides abroad, which he received with great satisfaction.
In that sense, the Minister of Culture, who chairs the National Award Committee of Visual Arts 2018, reported that the award winner will soon come to the country to receive the distinction, which also includes the delivery of the sum of 1 million pesos.

Critics inscribe his painting in neosurrealism, although his compositions unfold an extremely personal symbolic world.
His works are in important museums, cultural institutions and private collections of the Dominican Republic, Europe, Asia, the United States and Latin America.
Considered the Dominican painter is the most internationally renowned, not only for his long stay in Paris, but for his daring surrealist theme, which makes it possessor of one of the most refined techniques.
